1 T hen the Lord said to Moses, Go to Pharaoh and say to him, Thus says the Lord, Let My people go, that they may serve Me.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘The Lord says this: “Let My people go, so they may worship Me.
2 A nd if you refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite your entire land with frogs;
But if you will not let them go, I will bring trouble to your whole country with frogs.
3 A nd the river shall swarm with frogs which shall go up and come into your house, into your bedchamber and on your bed, and into the houses of your servants and upon your people, and into your ovens, your kneading bowls, and your dough.
The Nile will be full of frogs. They will come up and go in your house and in your room and on your bed. They will come in the houses of your servants and on your people. They will come in your stoves and in your bread dough.
4 A nd the frogs shall come up on you and on your people and all your servants.
The frogs will come up on you and your people and all your servants.”’”
5 A nd the Lord said to Moses, Say to Aaron, Stretch out your hand with your rod over the rivers, the streams and canals, and over the pools, and cause frogs to come up on the land of Egypt.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Put out your hand with your special stick over the rivers and over the pools. Make frogs come up on the land of Egypt.’”
6 S o Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land.
So Aaron put his hand out over the waters of Egypt. And the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt.
7 B ut the magicians did the same thing with their enchantments and secret arts, and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt.
But the wonder-workers did the same thing using their secret ways. They made frogs come up on the land of Egypt. Frogs Destroyed
8 T hen Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Entreat the Lord, that He may take away the frogs from me and my people; and I will let the people go that they may sacrifice to the Lord.
Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron and said, “You pray to the Lord to take the frogs away from me and my people. And I will let the people go, so they may give a gift in worship to the Lord.”
9 M oses said to Pharaoh, Glory over me in this: dictate when I shall pray for you, your servants, and your people, that the frogs may be destroyed from you and your houses and remain only in the river.
Moses said to Pharaoh, “The honor is yours to tell me when I should pray for you and your servants and your people, that the frogs may be sent away from you and your houses and stay only in the Nile.”
10 A nd said, Tomorrow. said, Let it be as you say, that you may know that there is no one like the Lord our God.
Pharaoh said, “Tomorrow.” And Moses said, “May it be as you say. You will know that there is no one like the Lord our God.
11 A nd the frogs shall depart from you and your houses and from your servants and your people; they shall remain in the river only.
The frogs will go away from you and your houses and your servants and your people. They will stay only in the Nile.”
12 S o Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh, and Moses cried to the Lord concerning the frogs which He had brought against him.
Then Moses and Aaron went away from Pharaoh. And Moses cried to the Lord about the frogs that He had brought against Pharaoh.
13 A nd the Lord did according to the word of Moses, and the frogs died out of the houses, out of the courtyards and villages, and out of the fields.
The Lord did as Moses said. The frogs died in and around the houses and the fields.
14 g athered them together in heaps, and the land was loathsome and stank.
The people gathered them together, and the land had a bad smell.
15 B ut when Pharaoh saw that there was temporary relief, he made his heart stubborn and hard and would not listen or heed them, just as the Lord had said.
But when Pharaoh saw that there was rest from the trouble, he made his heart hard. He did not listen to them, just as the Lord had said. Dust Turned to Lice
16 T hen the Lord said to Moses, Say to Aaron, Stretch out your rod and strike the dust of the ground, that it may become biting gnats or mosquitoes throughout all the land of Egypt.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Put out your special stick and hit the dust of the earth. It will become lice through all the land of Egypt.’”
17 A nd they did so; Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod and struck the dust of the earth, and there came biting gnats or mosquitoes on man and beast; all the dust of the land became biting gnats or mosquitoes throughout all the land of Egypt.
And they did so. Aaron put out his hand with his stick and hit the dust of the earth. And there were lice on man and animal. All the dust of the earth became lice through all the land of Egypt.
18 T he magicians tried by their enchantments and secret arts to bring forth gnats or mosquitoes, but they could not; and there were gnats or mosquitoes on man and beast.
The wonder-workers tried to cause lice to come by using their secret ways. But they could not. So there were lice on man and animal.
19 T hen the magicians said to Pharaoh, This is the finger of God! But Pharaoh’s heart was hardened and strong and he would not listen to them, just as the Lord had said.
Then the wonder-workers said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was hard. He did not listen to them, just as the Lord had said. Flies Cover All the Land
20 T hen the Lord said to Moses, Rise up early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh as he comes forth to the water; and say to him, Thus says the Lord, Let My people go, that they may serve Me.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Get up early in the morning and wait for Pharaoh as he goes out to the water. Say to him, ‘The Lord says this: “Let My people go, so they may worship Me.
21 E lse, if you will not let My people go, behold, I will send swarms upon you, your servants, and your people, and into your houses; and the houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms, and also the ground on which they stand.
For if you will not let My people go, I will send many flies upon you and upon your servants and upon your people and into your houses. The houses of the Egyptians will be full of flies, and also the ground will be covered with them.
22 B ut on that day I will sever and set apart the land of Goshen in which My people dwell, that no swarms shall be there, so that you may know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth.
But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen where My people are living so no flies will be there. Then you may know that I, the Lord, am in the land.
23 A nd I will put a division and a sign of deliverance between My people and your people. By tomorrow shall this sign be in evidence.
I will divide My people from your people. Tomorrow you will see this happen.”’”
24 A nd the Lord did so; and there came heavy and oppressive swarms into the house of Pharaoh and his servants’ houses; and in all of Egypt the land was corrupted and ruined by reason of the great invasion.
And the Lord did so. And there came a great many flies flying all over inside the house of the Pharaoh and in the houses of his servants. The land was destroyed because of the many flies in all the land of Egypt.
25 A nd Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Go, sacrifice to your God in the land.
Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron and said, “Go and give a gift in worship to your God here in the land.”
26 A nd Moses said, It is not suitable or right to do that; for the animals the Egyptians hold sacred and will not permit to be slain are those which we are accustomed to sacrifice to the Lord our God; if we did this before the eyes of the Egyptians, would they not stone us?
But Moses said, “It is not right to do this. For the Egyptians hate what we would give in worship to the Lord our God. If the Egyptians see us giving this gift and doing what they think is sinful, will they not throw stones at us?
27 W e will go a three days’ journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the Lord our God, as He will command us.
We must travel three days to the desert and give a gift in worship to the Lord our God, as He tells us to do.”
28 S o Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness; only you shall not go very far away. Entreat for me.
So Pharaoh said, “I will let you go, so you may give a gift to the Lord your God. But do not go very far away. Pray for me.”
29 M oses said, I go out from you, and I will entreat the Lord that the swarms may depart from Pharaoh, his servants, and his people tomorrow; only let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the Lord.
Then Moses said, “I am leaving you. I will pray to the Lord that the many flies may leave Pharaoh and his servants and his people tomorrow. But do not let Pharaoh lie again by not letting the people go to give a gift on an altar to the Lord.” The Flies Are Destroyed
30 S o Moses went out from Pharaoh and entreated the Lord.
So Moses left Pharaoh and prayed to the Lord.
31 A nd the Lord did as Moses had spoken: He removed the swarms from Pharaoh, from his servants, and his people; there remained not one.
And the Lord did as Moses asked. He took the many flies away from Pharaoh and his servants and his people. Not one was left.
32 B ut Pharaoh hardened his heart and made it stubborn this time also, nor would he let the people go.
But Pharaoh made his heart hard this time also. He did not let the people go.
