1 G ive ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that sittest the cherubim, shine forth.

Oh, give ear, Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock; You who are enthroned above the cherubim, shine forth!

2 B efore Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up thy strength, and come to our deliverance.

Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up Your power And come to save us!

3 O God, restore us; and cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.

O God, restore us And cause Your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved.

4 J ehovah, God of hosts, how long will thine anger smoke against the prayer of thy people?

O Lord God of hosts, How long will You be angry with the prayer of Your people?

5 T hou hast fed them with the bread of tears, and given them tears to drink in large measure:

You have fed them with the bread of tears, And You have made them to drink tears in large measure.

6 T hou hast made us a strife unto our neighbours, and our enemies mock among themselves.

You make us an object of contention to our neighbors, And our enemies laugh among themselves.

7 R estore us, O God of hosts; and cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.

O God of hosts, restore us And cause Your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved.

8 T hou broughtest a vine out of Egypt; thou didst cast out the nations, and plant it:

You removed a vine from Egypt; You drove out the nations and planted it.

9 T hou preparedst space before it, and it took deep root, and filled the land;

You cleared the ground before it, And it took deep root and filled the land.

10 T he mountains were covered with its shadow, and the branches thereof were cedars of God;

The mountains were covered with its shadow, And the cedars of God with its boughs.

11 I t sent out its boughs unto the sea, and its shoots unto the river.

It was sending out its branches to the sea And its shoots to the River.

12 W hy hast thou broken down its fences, so that all who pass by the way do pluck it?

Why have You broken down its hedges, So that all who pass that way pick its fruit ?

13 T he boar out of the forest doth waste it, and the beast of the field doth feed off it.

A boar from the forest eats it away And whatever moves in the field feeds on it.

14 O God of hosts, return, we beseech thee; look down from the heavens, and behold, and visit this vine;

O God of hosts, turn again now, we beseech You; Look down from heaven and see, and take care of this vine,

15 E ven the stock which thy right hand hath planted, and the young plant thou madest strong for thyself.

Even the shoot which Your right hand has planted, And on the son whom You have strengthened for Yourself.

16 I t is burned with fire, it is cut down; they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.

17 L et thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou hast made strong for thyself.

Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, Upon the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself.

18 S o will we not go back from thee. Revive us, and we will call upon thy name.

Then we shall not turn back from You; Revive us, and we will call upon Your name.

19 R estore us, O Jehovah, God of hosts; cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.

O Lord God of hosts, restore us; Cause Your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved.
