1 I n my trouble I called unto Jehovah, and he answered me.

In my trouble I cried to the Lord, And He answered me.

2 J ehovah, deliver my soul from the lying lip, from the deceitful tongue.

Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, From a deceitful tongue.

3 W hat shall be given unto thee, what shall be added unto thee, thou deceitful tongue?

What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, You deceitful tongue?

4 S harp arrows of a mighty one, with burning coals of broom-wood.

Sharp arrows of the warrior, With the burning coals of the broom tree.

5 W oe is me, that I sojourn in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar!

Woe is me, for I sojourn in Meshech, For I dwell among the tents of Kedar!

6 M y soul hath long dwelt with them that hate peace.

Too long has my soul had its dwelling With those who hate peace.

7 I peace; but when I speak, they for war.

I am for peace, but when I speak, They are for war.
