1 I n my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.

In my trouble I cried to the Lord, And He answered me.

2 D eliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, From a deceitful tongue.

3 W hat shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?

What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, You deceitful tongue?

4 S harp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.

Sharp arrows of the warrior, With the burning coals of the broom tree.

5 W oe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!

Woe is me, for I sojourn in Meshech, For I dwell among the tents of Kedar!

6 M y soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace.

Too long has my soul had its dwelling With those who hate peace.

7 I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.

I am for peace, but when I speak, They are for war.
