Galatians 1 ~ Galatians 1

picture

1 P aul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)

Paul, an apostle ( not sent from men nor through the agency of man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead),

2 a nd all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia:

and all the brethren who are with me, To the churches of Galatia:

3 g race be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,

4 w ho gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:

who gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,

5 t o whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

to whom be the glory forevermore. Amen. Perversion of the Gospel

6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel;

7 w hich is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.

8 B ut though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!

9 A s we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!

10 F or do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ. Paul Defends His Ministry

11 B ut I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.

For I would have you know, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man.

12 F or I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.

13 F or ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:

For you have heard of my former manner of life in Judaism, how I used to persecute the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it;

14 a nd profited in the Jews’ religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.

and I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries among my countrymen, being more extremely zealous for my ancestral traditions.

15 B ut when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace,

But when God, who had set me apart even from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace, was pleased

16 t o reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:

to reveal His Son in me so that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with flesh and blood,

17 n either went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus.

nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went away to Arabia, and returned once more to Damascus.

18 T hen after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.

Then three years later I went up to Jerusalem to become acquainted with Cephas, and stayed with him fifteen days.

19 B ut other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord’s brother.

But I did not see any other of the apostles except James, the Lord’s brother.

20 N ow the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not.

(Now in what I am writing to you, I assure you before God that I am not lying.)

21 A fterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia;

Then I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia.

22 a nd was unknown by face unto the churches of Judæa which were in Christ:

I was still unknown by sight to the churches of Judea which were in Christ;

23 b ut they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed.

but only, they kept hearing, “He who once persecuted us is now preaching the faith which he once tried to destroy.”

24 A nd they glorified God in me.

And they were glorifying God because of me.
