1 W hen Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language;

When Israel went forth from Egypt, The house of Jacob from a people of strange language,

2 J udah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion.

Judah became His sanctuary, Israel, His dominion.

3 T he sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back.

The sea looked and fled; The Jordan turned back.

4 T he mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.

The mountains skipped like rams, The hills, like lambs.

5 W hat ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back?

What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back?

6 Y e mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs?

O mountains, that you skip like rams? O hills, like lambs?

7 T remble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob;

Tremble, O earth, before the Lord, Before the God of Jacob,

8 w hich turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters.

Who turned the rock into a pool of water, The flint into a fountain of water.
