1 L et us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

Therefore, let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it.

2 F or unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard.

3 F or we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said, “ As I swore in My wrath, They shall not enter My rest,” although His works were finished from the foundation of the world.

4 F or he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

For He has said somewhere concerning the seventh day: “ And God rested on the seventh day from all His works ”;

5 A nd in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.

and again in this passage, “ They shall not enter My rest.”

6 S eeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:

Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience,

7 a gain, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

He again fixes a certain day, “Today,” saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before, “ Today if you hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts.”

8 F or if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.

For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that.

9 T here remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.

10 F or he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.

11 L et us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience.

12 F or the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

13 N either is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.

14 S eeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

15 F or we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.

16 L et us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
