1 A nd the Lord said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “ See, I make you as God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet.

2 T hou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land.

You shall speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron shall speak to Pharaoh that he let the sons of Israel go out of his land.

3 A nd I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.

But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart that I may multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt.

4 B ut Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.

When Pharaoh does not listen to you, then I will lay My hand on Egypt and bring out My hosts, My people the sons of Israel, from the land of Egypt by great judgments.

5 A nd the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.

The Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch out My hand on Egypt and bring out the sons of Israel from their midst.”

6 A nd Moses and Aaron did as the Lord commanded them, so did they.

So Moses and Aaron did it; as the Lord commanded them, thus they did.

7 A nd Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh.

Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three, when they spoke to Pharaoh. Aaron’s Rod Becomes a Serpent

8 A nd the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

Now the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,

9 W hen Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent.

“When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘ Work a miracle,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘ Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh, that it may become a serpent.’”

10 A nd Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the Lord had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent.

So Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh, and thus they did just as the Lord had commanded; and Aaron threw his staff down before Pharaoh and his servants, and it became a serpent.

11 T hen Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments.

Then Pharaoh also called for the wise men and the sorcerers, and they also, the magicians of Egypt, did the same with their secret arts.

12 F or they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods.

For each one threw down his staff and they turned into serpents. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs.

13 A nd he hardened Pharaoh’s heart, that he hearkened not unto them; as the Lord had said.

Yet Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the Lord had said. Water Is Turned to Blood

14 A nd the Lord said unto Moses, Pharaoh’s heart is hardened, he refuseth to let the people go.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is stubborn; he refuses to let the people go.

15 G et thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water; and thou shalt stand by the river’s brink against he come; and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thine hand.

Go to Pharaoh in the morning as he is going out to the water, and station yourself to meet him on the bank of the Nile; and you shall take in your hand the staff that was turned into a serpent.

16 A nd thou shalt say unto him, The Lord God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and, behold, hitherto thou wouldest not hear.

You shall say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you, saying, “ Let My people go, that they may serve Me in the wilderness. But behold, you have not listened until now.”

17 T hus saith the Lord, In this thou shalt know that I am the Lord: behold, I will smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.

Thus says the Lord, “ By this you shall know that I am the Lord: behold, I will strike the water that is in the Nile with the staff that is in my hand, and it will be turned to blood.

18 A nd the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall stink; and the Egyptians shall lothe to drink of the water of the river.

The fish that are in the Nile will die, and the Nile will become foul, and the Egyptians will find difficulty in drinking water from the Nile.”’”

19 A nd the Lord spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their streams, and over their pools, and over all their reservoirs of water, that they may become blood; and there will be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.’”

20 A nd Moses and Aaron did so, as the Lord commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.

So Moses and Aaron did even as the Lord had commanded. And he lifted up the staff and struck the water that was in the Nile, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants, and all the water that was in the Nile was turned to blood.

21 A nd the fish that was in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.

The fish that were in the Nile died, and the Nile became foul, so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile. And the blood was through all the land of Egypt.

22 A nd the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments: and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, neither did he hearken unto them; as the Lord had said.

But the magicians of Egypt did the same with their secret arts; and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the Lord had said.

23 A nd Pharaoh turned and went into his house, neither did he set his heart to this also.

Then Pharaoh turned and went into his house with no concern even for this.

24 A nd all the Egyptians digged round about the river for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the river.

So all the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink, for they could not drink of the water of the Nile.

25 A nd seven days were fulfilled, after that the Lord had smitten the river.

Seven days passed after the Lord had struck the Nile.
