1 W ho is this that cometh from Edom, with deep-red garments from Bozrah, this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength?—I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.

Who is this who comes from Edom, With garments of glowing colors from Bozrah, This One who is majestic in His apparel, Marching in the greatness of His strength? “It is I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.”

2 Wherefore is redness in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winevat?

Why is Your apparel red, And Your garments like the one who treads in the wine press?

3 I have trodden the winepress alone, and of the peoples not a man was with me; and I have trodden them in mine anger, and trampled them in my fury; and their blood is sprinkled upon my garments, and I have stained all mine apparel.

“ I have trodden the wine trough alone, And from the peoples there was no man with Me. I also trod them in My anger And trampled them in My wrath; And their lifeblood is sprinkled on My garments, And I stained all My raiment.

4 F or the day of vengeance was in my heart, and the year of my redeemed had come.

“For the day of vengeance was in My heart, And My year of redemption has come.

5 A nd I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: and mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me.

“I looked, and there was no one to help, And I was astonished and there was no one to uphold; So My own arm brought salvation to Me, And My wrath upheld Me.

6 A nd I have trodden down the peoples in mine anger, and made them drunk in my fury; and their blood have I brought down to the earth.

“I trod down the peoples in My anger And made them drunk in My wrath, And I poured out their lifeblood on the earth.” God’s Ancient Mercies Recalled

7 I will record the loving-kindnesses of Jehovah, the praises of Jehovah, according to all that Jehovah hath bestowed upon us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel which he hath bestowed upon them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his loving-kindnesses.

I shall make mention of the lovingkindnesses of the Lord, the praises of the Lord, According to all that the Lord has granted us, And the great goodness toward the house of Israel, Which He has granted them according to His compassion And according to the abundance of His lovingkindnesses.

8 A nd he said, They are indeed my people, children that will not lie; and he became their Saviour.

For He said, “Surely, they are My people, Sons who will not deal falsely.” So He became their Savior.

9 I n all their affliction he was afflicted, and the Angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bore them and carried them all the days of old.

In all their affliction He was afflicted, And the angel of His presence saved them; In His love and in His mercy He redeemed them, And He lifted them and carried them all the days of old.

10 B ut they rebelled and grieved his holy Spirit: and he turned to be their enemy; himself, he fought against them.

But they rebelled And grieved His Holy Spirit; Therefore He turned Himself to become their enemy, He fought against them.

11 B ut he remembered the days of old, Moses his people: Where is he that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of his flock? Where is he that put his holy Spirit within him,

Then His people remembered the days of old, of Moses. Where is He who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of His flock? Where is He who put His Holy Spirit in the midst of them,

12 h is glorious arm leading them by the right hand of Moses, dividing the waters before them, to make himself an everlasting name,

Who caused His glorious arm to go at the right hand of Moses, Who divided the waters before them to make for Himself an everlasting name,

13 who led them through the depths, like a horse in the wilderness, they stumbled not?

Who led them through the depths? Like the horse in the wilderness, they did not stumble;

14 A s cattle go down into the valley, the Spirit of Jehovah gave them rest; so didst thou lead thy people, to make thyself a glorious name.

As the cattle which go down into the valley, The Spirit of the Lord gave them rest. So You led Your people, To make for Yourself a glorious name. “You Are Our Father”

15 L ook down from the heavens, and behold from the habitation of thy holiness and of thy glory! Where is thy zeal and thy strength, the sounding of thy bowels and of thy tender mercies? Are they restrained toward me?

Look down from heaven and see from Your holy and glorious habitation; Where are Your zeal and Your mighty deeds? The stirrings of Your heart and Your compassion are restrained toward me.

16 F or thou art our Father, though Abraham be ignorant of us, and Israel acknowledge us not: thou, Jehovah, art our Father; our Redeemer, from everlasting, is thy name.

For You are our Father, though Abraham does not know us And Israel does not recognize us. You, O Lord, are our Father, Our Redeemer from of old is Your name.

17 W hy, O Jehovah, hast thou made us to err from thy ways, hast hardened our heart from thy fear? Return for thy servants' sake, the tribes of thine inheritance.

Why, O Lord, do You cause us to stray from Your ways And harden our heart from fearing You? Return for the sake of Your servants, the tribes of Your heritage.

18 T hy holy people have possessed but a little while: our adversaries have trodden down thy sanctuary.

Your holy people possessed Your sanctuary for a little while, Our adversaries have trodden it down.

19 W e have become over whom thou never barest rule, those not called by thy name.

We have become like those over whom You have never ruled, Like those who were not called by Your name.
