1 ¶ Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom.

2 E sau took his wives of the daughters of Canaan: Adah the daughter of Elon, the Hittite; Aholibamah, the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon, the Hivite;

3 a nd Bashemath, Ishmael’s daughter, sister of Nebajoth.

4 A nd Adah bore to Esau Eliphaz, and Bashemath bore Reuel,

And Adah bare to Esau Eliphaz; and Basemath bare Reuel;

5 a nd Aholibamah bore Jeush and Jaalam and Korah: these are the sons of Esau, who were born unto him in the land of Canaan.

and Oholibamah bare Jeush, and Jalam, and Korah: these are the sons of Esau, that were born unto him in the land of Canaan.

6 A nd Esau took his wives and his sons and his daughters and all the persons of his house and his cattle and all his beasts and all his substance, which he had got in the land of Canaan, and went into another country from the face of his brother Jacob.

And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the souls of his house, and his cattle, and all his beasts, and all his possessions, which he had gather in the land of Canaan; and went into a land away from his brother Jacob.

7 F or their riches were more than that they might dwell together, and the land in which they were strangers could not bear them because of their livestock.

For their substance was too great for them to dwell together; and the land of their sojournings could not bear them because of their cattle.

8 T hus dwelt Esau in Mount Seir; Esau is Edom.

And Esau dwelt in mount Seir: Esau is Edom.

9 ¶ And these are the lineages of Esau, the father of the Edomites in Mount Seir.

And these are the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in mount Seir:

10 T hese are the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz, the son of Adah, the wife of Esau; Reuel, the son of Bashemath, the wife of Esau.

these are the names of Esau's sons: Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, Reuel the son of Basemath the wife of Esau.

11 A nd the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.

And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, and Gatam, and Kenaz.

12 A nd Timna was concubine to Eliphaz, Esau’s son, and she bore to Eliphaz Amalek: these are the sons of Adah, Esau’s wife.

And Timna was concubine to Eliphaz Esau's son; and she bare to Eliphaz Amalek: these are the sons of Adah, Esau's wife.

13 A nd these are the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah; these were the sons of Bashemath, Esau’s wife.

And these are the sons of Reuel: Nahath, and Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah: these were the sons of Basemath, Esau's wife.

14 A nd these were the sons of Aholibamah, the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon, Esau’s wife: she gave birth unto Esau Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah.

And these were the sons of Oholibamah the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon, Esau's wife: and she bare to Esau Jeush, and Jalam, and Korah.

15 T hese are dukes of the sons of Esau. The sons of Eliphaz, the firstborn son of Esau: duke Teman, duke Omar, duke Zepho, duke Kenaz,

These are the chiefs of the sons of Esau: the sons of Eliphaz the first-born of Esau: chief Teman, chief Omar, chief Zepho, chief Kenaz,

16 d uke Korah, duke Gatam, and duke Amalek: these are the dukes that came of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Adah.

And these are the sons of Reuel, Esau's son: chief Nahath, chief Zerah, chief Shammah, chief Mizzah: these are the chiefs that came of Reuel in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Basemath, Esau's wife.

18 A nd these are the sons of Aholibamah, Esau’s wife: duke Jeush, duke Jaalam, duke Korah; these were the dukes that came of Aholibamah the daughter of Anah, Esau’s wife.

And these are the sons of Oholibamah, Esau's wife: chief Jeush, chief Jalam, chief Korah: these are the chiefs that came of Oholibamah the daughter of Anah, Esau's wife.

19 T hese are the sons of Esau, who is Edom, and these are their dukes.

These are the sons of Esau, and these are their chiefs: the same is Edom.

20 ¶ These are the sons of Seir, the Horite, who inhabited the land: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,

These are the sons of Seir the Horite, the inhabitants of the land: Lotan and Shobal and Zibeon and Anah,

21 D ishon, Ezer, and Dishan; these are the dukes of the Horites, the sons of Seir in the land of Edom.

and Dishon and Ezer and Dishan: these are the chiefs that came of the Horites, the children of Seir in the land of Edom.

22 A nd the sons of Lotan were Hori and Hemam, and Lotan’s sister was Timna.

And the children of Lotan were Hori and Heman. And Lotan's sister was Timna.

23 A nd the sons of Shobal were these: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.

And these are the children of Shobal: Alvan and Manahath and Ebal, Shepho and Onam.

24 A nd these are the sons of Zibeon: both Ajah and Anah; this was that Anah that invented mules in the wilderness as he fed the asses of Zibeon his father.

And these are the children of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah; this is Anah who found the hot springs in the wilderness, as he fed the asses of Zibeon his father.

25 A nd the children of Anah were these: Dishon and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah.

And these are the children of Anah: Dishon and Oholibamah the daughter of Anah.

26 A nd these are the sons of Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran.

And these are the children of Dishon: Hemdan and Eshban and Ithran and Cheran.

27 T he sons of Ezer are these: Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan.

These are the children of Ezer: Bilhan and Zaavan and Akan.

28 T he sons of Dishan are these: Uz and Aran.

These are the children of Dishan: Uz and Aran.

29 T hese are the dukes that came of the Horites: duke Lotan, duke Shobal, duke Zibeon, duke Anah,

These are the chiefs that came of the Horites: chief Lotan, chief Shobal, chief Zibeon, chief Anah,

30 d uke Dishon, duke Ezer, duke Dishan; these are the dukes that came of Hori; by their dukedoms in the land of Seir.

31 ¶ And these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the sons of Israel.

32 A nd Bela, the son of Beor, reigned in Edom, and the name of his city was Dinhabah.

And Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom; and the name of his city was Dinhabah.

33 A nd Bela died, and Jobab, the son of Zerah of Bozrah, reigned in his stead.

And Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his stead.

34 A nd Jobab died, and Husham of the land of Temani reigned in his stead.

And Jobab died, and Husham of the land of the Temanites reigned in his stead.

35 A nd Husham died, and Hadad, the son of Bedad, who smote Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his stead; and the name of his city was Avith.

36 A nd Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his stead.

37 A nd Samlah died, and Saul of Rehoboth by the river reigned in his stead.

And Samlah died, and Shaul of Rehoboth by the River reigned in his stead.

38 A nd Saul died, and Baalhanan, the son of Achbor, reigned in his stead.

And Shaul died, and Baal-hanan the son of Achbor reigned in his stead.

39 A nd Baalhanan, the son of Achbor, died, and Hadar reigned in his stead; and the name of his city was Pau; and his wife’s name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab.

And Baal-hanan the son of Achbor died, and Hadar reigned in his stead: and the name of his city was Pau; and his wife's name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-zahab.

40 A nd these are the names of the dukes that came of Esau, according to their families, after their places, by their names: duke Timnah, duke Alvah, duke Jetheth,

41 d uke Aholibamah, duke Elah, duke Pinon,
