1 T he Song of songs, which is Solomon's.

2 L et him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth; For thy love is better than wine.

Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth; for your love is better than wine.

3 T hine oils have a goodly fragrance; Thy name is as oil poured forth; Therefore do the virgins love thee.

Your oils have a pleasing fragrance. Your name is oil poured out, therefore the virgins love you.

4 D raw me; we will run after thee: The king hath brought me into his chambers; We will be glad and rejoice in thee; We will make mention of thy love more than of wine: Rightly do they love thee.

Take me away with you. Let us hurry. The king has brought me into his rooms. Friends We will be glad and rejoice in you. We will praise your love more than wine! Beloved They are right to love you.

5 I am black, but comely, Oh ye daughters of Jerusalem, As the tents of Kedar, As the curtains of Solomon.

I am dark, but lovely, you daughters of Jerusalem, like Kedar’s tents, like Solomon’s curtains.

6 L ook not upon me, because I am swarthy, Because the sun hath scorched me. My mother's sons were incensed against me; They made me keeper of the vineyards; But mine own vineyard have I not kept.

Don’t stare at me because I am dark, because the sun has scorched me. My mother’s sons were angry with me. They made me keeper of the vineyards. I haven’t kept my own vineyard.

7 T ell me, O thou whom my soul loveth, Where thou feedest thy flock, Where thou makest it to rest at noon: For why should I be as one that is veiled Beside the flocks of thy companions?

Tell me, you whom my soul loves, where you graze your flock, where you rest them at noon; For why should I be as one who is veiled beside the flocks of your companions? Lover

8 I f thou know not, O thou fairest among women, Go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock, And feed thy kids beside the shepherds' tents.

If you don’t know, most beautiful among women, follow the tracks of the sheep. Graze your young goats beside the shepherds’ tents.

9 I have compared thee, O my love, To a steed in Pharaoh's chariots.

I have compared you, my love, to a steed in Pharaoh’s chariots.

10 T hy cheeks are comely with plaits of hair, Thy neck with strings of jewels.

Your cheeks are beautiful with earrings, your neck with strings of jewels.

11 W e will make thee plaits of gold With studs of silver.

12 W hile the king sat at his table, My spikenard sent forth its fragrance.

13 M y beloved is unto me as a bundle of myrrh, That lieth betwixt my breasts.

14 M y beloved is unto me as a cluster of henna-flowers In the vineyards of En-gedi.

15 B ehold, thou art fair, my love; Behold thou art fair; Thine eyes are as doves.

16 B ehold, thou art fair, my beloved, yea, pleasant: Also our couch is green.

Behold, you are beautiful, my beloved, yes, pleasant; and our couch is verdant. Lover

17 T he beams of our house are cedars, And our rafters are firs.
