1 I n my distress I cried unto Jehovah, And he answered me.

In my distress, I cried to Yahweh. He answered me.

2 D eliver my soul, O Jehovah, from lying lips, And from a deceitful tongue.

Deliver my soul, Yahweh, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.

3 W hat shall be given unto thee, and what shall be done more unto thee, Thou deceitful tongue?

What will be given to you, and what will be done more to you, you deceitful tongue?

4 S harp arrows of the mighty, With coals of juniper.

Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.

5 W oe is me, that I sojourn in Meshech, That I dwell among the tents of Kedar!

Woe is me, that I live in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar!

6 M y soul hath long had her dwelling With him that hateth peace.

My soul has had her dwelling too long with him who hates peace.

7 I am for peace: But when I speak, they are for war.

I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war.
