1 C ine iubeşte certarea, iubeşte ştiinţa; dar cine urăşte mustrarea, este prost. -

Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.

2 O mul de bine capătă bunăvoinţa Domnului, dar Domnul osîndeşte pe cel plin de răutate.

A good man obtaineth favour of the Lord: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.

3 O mul nu se întăreşte prin răutate, dar rădăcina celor neprihăniţi nu se va clătina. -

A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.

4 O femeie cinstită este cununa bărbatului ei, dar cea care -i face ruşine este ca putregaiul în oasele lui. -

A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

5 G îndurile celor neprihăniţi nu sînt decît dreptate, dar sfaturile celor răi nu sînt decît înşelăciune. -

The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

6 C uvintele celor răi sînt nişte curse ca să verse sînge, dar gura celor fără prihană îi izbăveşte. -

The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

7 C ei răi sînt răsturnaţi, şi nu mai sînt, dar casa celor neprihăniţi rămîne în picioare! -

The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.

8 U n om este preţuit după măsura priceperii lui, dar cel cu inima stricată este dispreţuit. -

A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.

9 M ai bine să fii într'o stare smerită şi să ai o slugă, decît să faci pe fudulul şi să n'ai ce mînca. -

He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.

10 C el neprihănit se îndură de vite, dar inima celui rău este fără milă.

A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

11 C ine-şi lucrează ogorul va avea belşug de pîne, dar cine umblă după lucruri de nimic este fără minte. -

He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.

12 C el rău pofteşte prada celor nelegiuiţi, dar rădăcina celor neprihăniţi rodeşte. -

The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.

13 Î n păcătuirea cu buzele este o cursă primejdioasă, dar cel neprihănit scapă din bucluc. -

The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.

14 P rin rodul gurii te saturi de bunătăţi, şi fiecare primeşte după lucrul mînilor lui. -

A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.

15 C alea nebunului este fără prihană în ochii lui, dar înţeleptul ascultă sfaturile. -

The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

16 N ebunul îndată îşi dă pe faţă mînia, dar înţeleptul ascunde ocara. -

A fool's wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.

17 C ine spune adevărul face o mărturisire dreaptă, dar martorul mincinos vorbeşte înşelăciune. -

He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.

18 C ine vorbeşte în chip uşuratic, răneşte ca străpungerea unei săbii, dar limba înţelepţilor aduce vindecare. -

There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

19 B uza care spune adevărul este întărită pe vecie, dar limba mincinoasă nu stă decît o clipă. -

The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

20 Î nşelătoria este în inima celor ce cugetă răul, dar bucuria este pentru ceice sfătuiesc la pace. -

Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.

21 N icio nenorocire nu se întîmplă celui neprihănit, dar cei răi sînt năpădiţi de rele. -

There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.

22 B uzele mincinoase sînt urîte Domnului, dar ceice lucrează cu adevăr îi sînt plăcuţi. -

Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.

23 O mul înţelept îţi ascunde ştiinţa, dar inima nebunilor vesteşte nebunia. -

A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.

24 M îna celor harnici va stăpîni, dar mîna leneşă va plăti bir. -

The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.

25 N eliniştea din inima omului îl doboară, dar o vorbă bună îl înveseleşte. -

Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.

26 C el neprihănit arată prietenului său calea cea bună, dar calea celor răi îi duce în rătăcire. -

The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.

27 L eneşul nu-şi frige vînatul, dar comoara de preţ a unui om este munca. -

The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.

28 P e cărarea neprihănirii este viaţa, şi pe drumul însemnat de ea nu este moarte. -

In the way of righteousness is life: and in the pathway thereof there is no death.
