1 You are the children of the Lord your God; you shall not cut yourselves nor shave the front of your head for the dead.

You are the sons of the Lord your God; you shall not cut yourselves or make any baldness on your foreheads for the dead,

2 F or you are a holy people to the Lord your God, and the Lord has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. Clean and Unclean Meat

For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; and the Lord has chosen you to be a peculiar people to Himself, above all the nations on the earth.

3 You shall not eat any detestable thing.

You shall not eat anything that is abominable.

4 T hese are the animals which you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat,

These are the beasts which you may eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat,

5 t he deer, the gazelle, the roe deer, the wild goat, the mountain goat, the antelope, and the mountain sheep.

The hart, the gazelle, the roebuck, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope, and the mountain sheep.

6 A nd you may eat every animal with cloven hooves, having the hoof split into two parts, and that chews the cud, among the animals.

And every beast that parts the hoof and has it divided into two and brings up and chews the cud among the beasts you may eat.

7 N evertheless, of those that chew the cud or have cloven hooves, you shall not eat, such as these: the camel, the hare, and the rock hyrax; for they chew the cud but do not have cloven hooves; they are unclean for you.

Yet these you shall not eat of those that chew the cud or have the hoof split in two: the camel, the hare, and the coney, because they chew the cud but divide not the hoof; they are unclean for you.

8 A lso the swine is unclean for you, because it has cloven hooves, yet does not chew the cud; you shall not eat their flesh or touch their dead carcasses.

And the swine, because it parts the hoof but does not chew the cud; it is unclean to you. You shall not eat of their flesh or touch their dead bodies.

9 These you may eat of all that are in the waters: you may eat all that have fins and scales.

These you may eat of all that are in the waters: whatever has fins and scales you may eat,

10 A nd whatever does not have fins and scales you shall not eat; it is unclean for you.

And whatever has not fins and scales you may not eat; it is unclean for you.

11 All clean birds you may eat.

Of all clean birds you may eat.

12 B ut these you shall not eat: the eagle, the vulture, the buzzard,

But these are the ones which you shall not eat: the eagle, the vulture, the ospray,

13 t he red kite, the falcon, and the kite after their kinds;

The buzzard, the kite in its several species,

14 e very raven after its kind;

The raven in all its species,

15 t he ostrich, the short-eared owl, the sea gull, and the hawk after their kinds;

The ostrich, the nighthawk, the sea gull, the hawk of any variety,

16 t he little owl, the screech owl, the white owl,

The little owl, the great owl, the horned owl,

17 t he jackdaw, the carrion vulture, the fisher owl,

The pelican, the carrion vulture, the cormorant,

18 t he stork, the heron after its kind, and the hoopoe and the bat.

The stork, the heron of any variety, the hoopoe, and the bat.

19 Also every creeping thing that flies is unclean for you; they shall not be eaten.

And all flying insects are unclean for you; they shall not be eaten.

20 You may eat all clean birds.

But of all clean winged things you may eat.

21 You shall not eat anything that dies of itself; you may give it to the alien who is within your gates, that he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner; for you are a holy people to the Lord your God. “You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk. Tithing Principles

You shall not eat of anything that dies of itself. You may give it to the stranger or the foreigner who is within your towns, that he may eat it, or you may sell it to an alien. but you are a people holy to the Lord your God. You shall not boil a kid in its mother’s milk.

22 You shall truly tithe all the increase of your grain that the field produces year by year.

You shall surely tithe all the yield of your seed produced by your field each year.

23 A nd you shall eat before the Lord your God, in the place where He chooses to make His name abide, the tithe of your grain and your new wine and your oil, of the firstborn of your herds and your flocks, that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always.

And you shall eat before the Lord your God in the place in which He will cause His Name to dwell the tithe (tenth) of your grain, your new wine, your oil, and the firstlings of your herd and your flock, that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always.

24 B ut if the journey is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry the tithe, or if the place where the Lord your God chooses to put His name is too far from you, when the Lord your God has blessed you,

And if the distance is too long for you to carry your tithe, or the place where the Lord your God chooses to set His Name is too far away for you, when the Lord your God has blessed you,

25 t hen you shall exchange it for money, take the money in your hand, and go to the place which the Lord your God chooses.

Then you shall turn it into money, and bind up the money in your hand, and shall go to the place which the Lord your God has chosen.

26 A nd you shall spend that money for whatever your heart desires: for oxen or sheep, for wine or similar drink, for whatever your heart desires; you shall eat there before the Lord your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household.

And you may spend that money for whatever your appetite craves, for oxen, or sheep, or new wine or strong drink, or whatever you desire; and you shall eat there before the Lord your God and you shall rejoice, you and your household.

27 Y ou shall not forsake the Levite who is within your gates, for he has no part nor inheritance with you.

And you shall not forsake or neglect the Levite in your towns, for he has been given no share or inheritance with you.

28 At the end of every third year you shall bring out the tithe of your produce of that year and store it up within your gates.

At the end of every three years you shall bring forth all the tithe of your increase the same year and lay it up within your towns.

29 A nd the Levite, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you, and the stranger and the fatherless and the widow who are within your gates, may come and eat and be satisfied, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.

And the Levite and the stranger or temporary resident, and the fatherless and the widow who are in your towns shall come and eat and be satisfied, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands that you do.
