1 A nd David spake unto Jehovah the words of this song in the day that Jehovah delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:
And David spoke the words of this song to the Lord in the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.
2 a nd he said, Jehovah is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer, even mine;
He said, “ The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
3 G od, my rock, in him will I take refuge; My shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge; My saviour, thou savest me from violence.
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge; My savior, You save me from violence.
4 I will call upon Jehovah, who is worthy to be praised: So shall I be saved from mine enemies.
“I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, And I am saved from my enemies.
5 F or the waves of death compassed me; The floods of ungodliness made me afraid:
“For the waves of death encompassed me; The torrents of destruction overwhelmed me;
6 T he cords of Sheol were round about me; The snares of death came upon me.
The cords of Sheol surrounded me; The snares of death confronted me.
7 I n my distress I called upon Jehovah; Yea, I called unto my God: And he heard my voice out of his temple, And my cry came into his ears.
“ In my distress I called upon the Lord, Yes, I cried to my God; And from His temple He heard my voice, And my cry for help came into His ears.
8 T hen the earth shook and trembled, The foundations of heaven quaked And were shaken, because he was wroth.
“Then the earth shook and quaked, The foundations of heaven were trembling And were shaken, because He was angry.
9 T here went up a smoke out of his nostrils, And fire out of his mouth devoured: Coals were kindled by it.
“Smoke went up out of His nostrils, Fire from His mouth devoured; Coals were kindled by it.
10 H e bowed the heavens also, and came down; And thick darkness was under his feet.

11 A nd he rode upon a cherub, and did fly; Yea, he was seen upon the wings of the wind.
“ And He rode on a cherub and flew; And He appeared on the wings of the wind.
12 A nd he made darkness pavilions round about him, Gathering of waters, thick clouds of the skies.
“ And He made darkness canopies around Him, A mass of waters, thick clouds of the sky.
13 A t the brightness before him Coals of fire were kindled.

14 J ehovah thundered from heaven, And the Most High uttered his voice.
“ The Lord thundered from heaven, And the Most High uttered His voice.
15 A nd he sent out arrows, and scattered them; Lightning, and discomfited them.

16 T hen the channels of the sea appeared, The foundations of the world were laid bare, By the rebuke of Jehovah, At the blast of the breath of his nostrils.

17 H e sent from on high, he took me; He drew me out of many waters;

18 H e delivered me from my strong enemy, From them that hated me; for they were too mighty for me.
“He delivered me from my strong enemy, From those who hated me, for they were too strong for me.
19 T hey came upon me in the day of my calamity; But Jehovah was my stay.
“They confronted me in the day of my calamity, But the Lord was my support.
20 H e brought me forth also into a large place; He delivered me, because he delighted in me.
“ He also brought me forth into a broad place; He rescued me, because He delighted in me.
21 J ehovah rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.
“ The Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me.
22 F or I have kept the ways of Jehovah, And have not wickedly departed from my God.
“ For I have kept the ways of the Lord, And have not acted wickedly against my God.
23 F or all his ordinances were before me; And as for his statutes, I did not depart from them.
“ For all His ordinances were before me, And as for His statutes, I did not depart from them.
24 I was also perfect toward him; And I kept myself from mine iniquity.
“ I was also blameless toward Him, And I kept myself from my iniquity.
25 T herefore hath Jehovah recompensed me according to my righteousness, According to my cleanness in his eyesight.
“ Therefore the Lord has recompensed me according to my righteousness, According to my cleanness before His eyes.
26 W ith the merciful thou wilt show thyself merciful; With the perfect man thou wilt show thyself perfect;
“ With the kind You show Yourself kind, With the blameless You show Yourself blameless;
27 W ith the pure thou wilt show thyself pure; And with the perverse thou wilt show thyself froward.
With the pure You show Yourself pure, And with the perverted You show Yourself astute.
28 A nd the afflicted people thou wilt save; But thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.
“ And You save an afflicted people; But Your eyes are on the haughty whom You abase.
29 F or thou art my lamp, O Jehovah; And Jehovah will lighten my darkness.
“ For You are my lamp, O Lord; And the Lord illumines my darkness.
30 F or by thee I run upon a troop; By my God do I leap over a wall.
“ For by You I can run upon a troop; By my God I can leap over a wall.
31 A s for God, his way is perfect: The word of Jehovah is tried; He is a shield unto all them that take refuge in him.
“ As for God, His way is blameless; The word of the Lord is tested; He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
32 F or who is God, save Jehovah? And who is a rock, save our God?
“ For who is God, besides the Lord ? And who is a rock, besides our God?
33 G od is my strong fortress; And he guideth the perfect in his way.
“ God is my strong fortress; And He sets the blameless in His way.
34 H e maketh his feet like hinds' feet, And setteth me upon my high places.
“ He makes my feet like hinds’ feet, And sets me on my high places.
35 H e teacheth my hands to war, So that mine arms do bend a bow of brass.
“ He trains my hands for battle, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
36 T hou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation; And thy gentleness hath made me great.
“You have also given me the shield of Your salvation, And Your help makes me great.
37 T hou hast enlarged my steps under me; And my feet have not slipped.
“ You enlarge my steps under me, And my feet have not slipped.
38 I have pursued mine enemies, and destroyed them; Neither did I turn again till they were consumed.
“I pursued my enemies and destroyed them, And I did not turn back until they were consumed.
39 A nd I have consumed them, and smitten them through, so that they cannot arise: Yea, they are fallen under my feet.
“And I have devoured them and shattered them, so that they did not rise; And they fell under my feet.
40 F or thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle; Thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me.
“For You have girded me with strength for battle; You have subdued under me those who rose up against me.
41 T hou hast also made mine enemies turn their backs unto me, That I might cut off them that hate me.
“You have also made my enemies turn their backs to me, And I destroyed those who hated me.
42 T hey looked, but there was none to save; Even unto Jehovah, but he answered them not.
“ They looked, but there was none to save; Even to the Lord, but He did not answer them.
43 T hen did I beat them small as the dust of the earth, I did crush them as the mire of the streets, and did spread them abroad.
“ Then I pulverized them as the dust of the earth; I crushed and stamped them as the mire of the streets.
44 T hou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people; Thou hast kept me to be the head of the nations: A people whom I have not known shall serve me.
“ You have also delivered me from the contentions of my people; You have kept me as head of the nations; A people whom I have not known serve me.
45 T he foreigners shall submit themselves unto me: As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me.
“ Foreigners pretend obedience to me; As soon as they hear, they obey me.
46 T he foreigners shall fade away, And shall come trembling out of their close places.
“Foreigners lose heart, And come trembling out of their fortresses.
47 J ehovah liveth; And blessed be my rock; And exalted be God, the rock of my salvation,
“The Lord lives, and blessed be my rock; And exalted be God, the rock of my salvation,
48 E ven the God that executeth vengeance for me, And that bringeth down peoples under me,
The God who executes vengeance for me, And brings down peoples under me,
49 A nd that bringeth me forth from mine enemies: Yea, thou liftest me up above them that rise up against me; Thou deliverest me from the violent man.
Who also brings me out from my enemies; You even lift me above those who rise up against me; You rescue me from the violent man.
50 T herefore I will give thanks unto thee, O Jehovah, among the nations, And will sing praises unto thy name.
“ Therefore I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the nations, And I will sing praises to Your name.
51 G reat deliverance giveth he to his king, And showeth lovingkindness to his anointed, To David and to his seed, for evermore.
“ He is a tower of deliverance to His king, And shows lovingkindness to His anointed, To David and his descendants forever.”
