1 N ow the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.

Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover, was approaching.

2 A nd the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put him to death; for they feared the people.

The chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might put Him to death; for they were afraid of the people.

3 A nd Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

And Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, belonging to the number of the twelve.

4 A nd he went away, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might deliver him unto them.

And he went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers how he might betray Him to them.

5 A nd they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.

They were glad and agreed to give him money.

6 A nd he consented, and sought opportunity to deliver him unto them in the absence of the multitude.

So he consented, and began seeking a good opportunity to betray Him to them apart from the crowd.

7 A nd the day of unleavened bread came, on which the passover must be sacrificed.

Then came the first day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.

8 A nd he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and make ready for us the passover, that we may eat.

And Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, so that we may eat it.”

9 A nd they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we make ready?

They said to Him, “Where do You want us to prepare it?”

10 A nd he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house whereinto he goeth.

And He said to them, “When you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house that he enters.

11 A nd ye shall say unto the master of the house, The Teacher saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

And you shall say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’

12 A nd he will show you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.

And he will show you a large, furnished upper room; prepare it there.”

13 A nd they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

And they left and found everything just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover. The Lord’s Supper

14 A nd when the hour was come, he sat down, and the apostles with him.

When the hour had come, He reclined at the table, and the apostles with Him.

15 A nd he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:

And He said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;

16 f or I say unto you, I shall not eat it, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

for I say to you, I shall never again eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”

17 A nd he received a cup, and when he had given thanks, he said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:

And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He said, “Take this and share it among yourselves;

18 f or I say unto you, I shall not drink from henceforth of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.

for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.”

19 A nd he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and gave to them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”

20 A nd the cup in like manner after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, even that which is poured out for you.

And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood.

21 B ut behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.

But behold, the hand of the one betraying Me is with Mine on the table.

22 F or the Son of man indeed goeth, as it hath been determined: but woe unto that man through whom he is betrayed!

For indeed, the Son of Man is going as it has been determined; but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!”

23 A nd they began to question among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.

And they began to discuss among themselves which one of them it might be who was going to do this thing. Who Is Greatest

24 A nd there arose also a contention among them, which of them was accounted to be greatest.

And there arose also a dispute among them as to which one of them was regarded to be greatest.

25 A nd he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles have lordship over them; and they that have authority over them are called Benefactors.

And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who have authority over them are called ‘Benefactors.’

26 B ut ye shall not be so: but he that is the greater among you, let him become as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

But it is not this way with you, but the one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant.

27 F or which is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am in the midst of you as he that serveth.

For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table ? But I am among you as the one who serves.

28 B ut ye are they that have continued with me in my temptations;

“You are those who have stood by Me in My trials;

29 a nd I appoint unto you a kingdom, even as my Father appointed unto me,

and just as My Father has granted Me a kingdom, I grant you

30 t hat ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom; and ye shall sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

31 S imon, Simon, behold, Satan asked to have you, that he might sift you as wheat:

“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat;

32 b ut I made supplication for thee, that thy faith fail not; and do thou, when once thou hast turned again, establish thy brethren.

but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.”

33 A nd he said unto him, Lord, with thee I am ready to go both to prison and to death.

But he said to Him, “Lord, with You I am ready to go both to prison and to death!”

34 A nd he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, until thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

And He said, “I say to you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me.”

35 A nd he said unto them, When I sent you forth without purse, and wallet, and shoes, lacked ye anything? And they said, Nothing.

And He said to them, “ When I sent you out without money belt and bag and sandals, you did not lack anything, did you?” They said, “ No, nothing.”

36 A nd he said unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise a wallet; and he that hath none, let him sell his cloak, and buy a sword.

And He said to them, “But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one.

37 F or I say unto you, that this which is written must be fulfilled in me, And he was reckoned with transgressors: for that which concerneth me hath fulfilment.

For I tell you that this which is written must be fulfilled in Me, ‘ And He was numbered with transgressors ’; for that which refers to Me has its fulfillment.”

38 A nd they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

They said, “Lord, look, here are two swords.” And He said to them, “It is enough.” The Garden of Gethsemane

39 A nd he came out, and went, as his custom was, unto the mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed him.

And He came out and proceeded as was His custom to the Mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed Him.

40 A nd when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.

When He arrived at the place, He said to them, “ Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

41 A nd he was parted from them about a stone's cast; and he kneeled down and prayed,

And He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and began to pray,

42 s aying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

saying, “Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.”

43 A nd there appeared unto him an angel from heaven, strengthening him.

Now an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him.

44 A nd being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became as it were great drops of blood falling down upon the ground.

And being in agony He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground.

45 A nd when he rose up from his prayer, he came unto the disciples, and found them sleeping for sorrow,

When He rose from prayer, He came to the disciples and found them sleeping from sorrow,

46 a nd said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, that ye enter not into temptation.

and said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you may not enter into temptation.” Jesus Betrayed by Judas

47 W hile he yet spake, behold, a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them; and he drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.

While He was still speaking, behold, a crowd came, and the one called Judas, one of the twelve, was preceding them; and he approached Jesus to kiss Him.

48 B ut Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”

49 A nd when they that were about him saw what would follow, they said, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?

When those who were around Him saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?”

50 A nd a certain one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and struck off his right ear.

And one of them struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his right ear.

51 B ut Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye them thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.

But Jesus answered and said, “ Stop! No more of this.” And He touched his ear and healed him.

52 A nd Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and elders, that were come against him, Are ye come out, as against a robber, with swords and staves?

Then Jesus said to the chief priests and officers of the temple and elders who had come against Him, “Have you come out with swords and clubs as you would against a robber?

53 W hen I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched not forth your hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.

While I was with you daily in the temple, you did not lay hands on Me; but this hour and the power of darkness are yours.” Jesus’ Arrest

54 A nd they seized him, and led him away, and brought him into the high priest's house. But Peter followed afar off.

Having arrested Him, they led Him away and brought Him to the house of the high priest; but Peter was following at a distance.

55 A nd when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the court, and had sat down together, Peter sat in the midst of them.

After they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter was sitting among them.

56 A nd a certain maid seeing him as he sat in the light of the fire, and looking stedfastly upon him, said, This man also was with him.

And a servant-girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight and looking intently at him, said, “This man was with Him too.”

57 B ut he denied, saying, Woman, I know him not.

But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.”

58 A nd after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou also art one of them. But Peter said, Man, I am not.

A little later, another saw him and said, “You are one of them too!” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!”

59 A nd after the space of about one hour another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this man also was with him; for he is a Galilaean.

After about an hour had passed, another man began to insist, saying, “Certainly this man also was with Him, for he is a Galilean too.”

60 B ut Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.

But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.

61 A nd the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how that he said unto him, Before the cock crow this day thou shalt deny me thrice.

The Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, “ Before a rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times.”

62 A nd he went out, and wept bitterly.

And he went out and wept bitterly.

63 A nd the men that held Jesus mocked him, and beat him.

Now the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking Him and beating Him,

64 A nd they blindfolded him, and asked him, saying, Prophesy: who is he that struck thee?

and they blindfolded Him and were asking Him, saying, “ Prophesy, who is the one who hit You?”

65 A nd many other things spake they against him, reviling him.

And they were saying many other things against Him, blaspheming. Jesus before the Sanhedrin

66 A nd as soon as it was day, the assembly of the elders of the people was gathered together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led him away into their council, saying,

When it was day, the Council of elders of the people assembled, both chief priests and scribes, and they led Him away to their council chamber, saying,

67 I f thou art the Christ, tell us. But he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:

“ If You are the Christ, tell us.” But He said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe;

68 a nd if I ask you, ye will not answer.

and if I ask a question, you will not answer.

69 B ut from henceforth shall the Son of man be seated at the right hand of the power of God.

But from now on the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God.”

70 A nd they all said, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.

And they all said, “Are You the Son of God, then?” And He said to them, “ Yes, I am.”

71 A nd they said, What further need have we of witness? for we ourselves have heard from his own mouth.

Then they said, “What further need do we have of testimony? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth.”
