1 T hus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Moab, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime:

Thus says the Lord, “For three transgressions of Moab and for four I will not revoke its punishment, Because he burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime.

2 b ut I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces of Kerioth; and Moab shall die with tumult, with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet;

“So I will send fire upon Moab And it will consume the citadels of Kerioth; And Moab will die amid tumult, With war cries and the sound of a trumpet.

3 a nd I will cut off the judge from the midst thereof, and will slay all the princes thereof with him, saith Jehovah.

“I will also cut off the judge from her midst And slay all her princes with him,” says the Lord.

4 T hus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Judah, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have rejected the law of Jehovah, and have not kept his statutes, and their lies have caused them to err, after which their fathers did walk:

Thus says the Lord, “For three transgressions of Judah and for four I will not revoke its punishment, Because they rejected the law of the Lord And have not kept His statutes; Their lies also have led them astray, Those after which their fathers walked.

5 b ut I will send a fire upon Judah, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.

“So I will send fire upon Judah And it will consume the citadels of Jerusalem.”

6 T hus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Israel, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have sold the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes-

Thus says the Lord, “For three transgressions of Israel and for four I will not revoke its punishment, Because they sell the righteous for money And the needy for a pair of sandals.

7 t hey that pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: and a man and his father go unto the same maiden, to profane my holy name:

“These who pant after the very dust of the earth on the head of the helpless Also turn aside the way of the humble; And a man and his father resort to the same girl In order to profane My holy name.

8 a nd they lay themselves down beside every altar upon clothes taken in pledge; and in the house of their God they drink the wine of such as have been fined.

“On garments taken as pledges they stretch out beside every altar, And in the house of their God they drink the wine of those who have been fined.

9 Y et destroyed I the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath.

“Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them, Though his height was like the height of cedars And he was strong as the oaks; I even destroyed his fruit above and his root below.

10 A lso I brought you up out of the land of Egypt, and led you forty years in the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite.

“It was I who brought you up from the land of Egypt, And I led you in the wilderness forty years That you might take possession of the land of the Amorite.

11 A nd I raised up of your sons for prophets, and of your young men for Nazirites. Is it not even thus, O ye children of Israel? saith Jehovah.

“Then I raised up some of your sons to be prophets And some of your young men to be Nazirites. Is this not so, O sons of Israel?” declares the Lord.

12 B ut ye gave the Nazirites wine to drink, and commanded the prophets, saying, Prophesy not.

“But you made the Nazirites drink wine, And you commanded the prophets saying, ‘You shall not prophesy!’

13 B ehold, I will press you in your place, as a cart presseth that is full of sheaves.

“Behold, I am weighted down beneath you As a wagon is weighted down when filled with sheaves.

14 A nd flight shall perish from the swift; and the strong shall not strengthen his force; neither shall the mighty deliver himself;

“ Flight will perish from the swift, And the stalwart will not strengthen his power, Nor the mighty man save his life.

15 n either shall he stand that handleth the bow; and he that is swift of foot shall not deliver himself; neither shall he that rideth the horse deliver himself;

“He who grasps the bow will not stand his ground, The swift of foot will not escape, Nor will he who rides the horse save his life.

16 a nd he that is courageous among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day, saith Jehovah.

“Even the bravest among the warriors will flee naked in that day,” declares the Lord.
