1 B ut a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

Pero cierto hombre llamado Ananías, con Safira su mujer, vendió una heredad,

2 a nd kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

y se quedó con parte del precio, sabiéndolo también su mujer; y trayendo sólo una parte, la puso a los pies de los apóstoles.

3 B ut Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

Y dijo Pedro: Ananías, ¿por qué llenó Satanás tu corazón para que mintieses al Espíritu Santo, y te quedases con parte del precio de la heredad?

4 W hiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

Reteniéndola, ¿no se te quedaba a ti?; y vendida, ¿no estaba en tu poder? ¿Por qué pusiste esto en tu corazón? No has mentido a los hombres, sino a Dios.

5 A nd Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

Al oír Ananías estas palabras, cayó y expiró. Y vino un gran temor sobre todos los que lo oyeron.

6 A nd the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.

Y levantándose los jóvenes, lo envolvieron, y sacándolo, lo sepultaron.

7 A nd it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

Pasado un lapso como de tres horas, sucedió que entró su mujer, no sabiendo lo que había acontecido.

8 A nd Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.

Entonces Pedro le preguntó: Dime, ¿vendisteis en tanto la heredad? Y ella dijo: Sí, en tanto.

9 T hen Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

Y Pedro le dijo: ¿Por qué os pusisteis de acuerdo para tentar al Espíritu del Señor? He aquí a la puerta los pies de los que han sepultado a tu marido, y te sacarán a ti.

10 T hen fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

Al instante ella cayó a los pies de él, y expiró; y cuando entraron los jóvenes, la hallaron muerta; y la sacaron, y la sepultaron junto a su marido.

11 A nd great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

Y vino gran temor sobre toda la iglesia, y sobre todos los que oían estas cosas. Muchas señales y maravillas

12 A nd by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.

Y por manos de los apóstoles se hacían muchas señales y prodigios en el pueblo; y estaban todos unánimes en el pórtico de Salomón.

13 A nd of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.

De los demás, ninguno se atrevía a juntarse con ellos; pero el pueblo los alababa grandemente.

14 A nd believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

Y cada vez se adherían al Señor más creyentes, gran número así de hombres como de mujeres;

15 I nsomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

tanto que sacaban los enfermos a las calles, y los ponían en lechos y camillas, para que al pasar Pedro, a lo menos su sombra cubriese a alguno de ellos.

16 T here came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

Y aun de las ciudades circunvecinas de Jerusalén venían muchos, trayendo enfermos y atormentados de espíritus inmundos; y todos eran sanados. Arresto y liberación de Pedro y Juan

17 T hen the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,

Entonces, levantándose el sumo sacerdote y todos los que estaban con él, esto es, la secta de los saduceos, se llenaron de celos;

18 a nd laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.

y echaron mano a los apóstoles y los pusieron en la cárcel pública.

19 B ut the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,

Mas un ángel del Señor, abrió de noche las puertas de la cárcel y, sacándolos, dijo:

20 G o, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

Id, y puestos en pie en el templo, hablad al pueblo todas las palabras de esta vida.

21 A nd when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.

Habiendo oído esto, entraron al amanecer en el templo, y enseñaban. Entretanto, se presentaron el sumo sacerdote y los que estaban con él, y convocaron al sanedrín y a todos los ancianos de los hijos de Israel, y enviaron a la cárcel para que fuesen traídos.

22 B ut when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned, and told,

Pero cuando llegaron los alguaciles, no los hallaron en la cárcel; entonces volvieron e informaron,

23 s aying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.

diciendo: Por cierto, hemos hallado la cárcel cerrada con toda seguridad, y los guardias afuera de pie ante las puertas; mas cuando abrimos, a nadie hallamos dentro.

24 N ow when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.

Cuando oyeron estas palabras el sumo sacerdote y el jefe de la guardia del templo y los principales sacerdotes, se preguntaban perplejos en qué vendría a parar aquello.

25 T hen came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.

Pero se presentó uno, que les dio esta noticia: He aquí, los varones que pusiste en la cárcel están en pie en el templo, y enseñan al pueblo.

26 T hen went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.

Entonces fue el jefe de la guardia con los alguaciles, y los trajo sin violencia, porque temían ser apedreados por el pueblo.

27 A nd when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,

Cuando los trajeron, los presentaron en el sanedrín, y el sumo sacerdote les preguntó,

28 s aying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.

diciendo: ¿No os mandamos estrictamente que no enseñaseis en ese nombre? Y ahora habéis llenado a Jerusalén de vuestra enseñanza, y queréis hacer recaer sobre nosotros la sangre de ese hombre.

29 T hen Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

Respondiendo Pedro y los apóstoles, dijeron: Hay que obedecer a Dios antes que a los hombres.

30 T he God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

El Dios de nuestros padres levantó a Jesús, a quien vosotros matasteis colgándole en un madero.

31 H im hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

A éste, Dios ha exaltado con su diestra por Jefe y Salvador, para dar a Israel arrepentimiento y perdón de pecados.

32 A nd we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

Y nosotros somos testigos suyos de estas cosas, y también el Espíritu Santo, el cual ha dado Dios a los que le obedecen.

33 W hen they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.

Ellos, oyendo esto, se sentían heridos en lo más vivo y querían matarlos.

34 T hen stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;

Entonces, levantándose en el sanedrín un fariseo llamado Gamaliel, doctor de la ley, venerado de todo el pueblo, mandó que sacasen fuera por un momento a los apóstoles,

35 a nd said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.

y luego les dijo: Varones israelitas, tened cuidado de lo que vais a hacer respecto a estos hombres.

36 F or before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.

Porque antes de estos días se levantó Teudas, diciendo que era alguien. A éste se unió un número como de cuatrocientos hombres; pero él fue muerto, y todos los que le obedecían fueron dispersados y quedaron en nada.

37 A fter this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.

Después de éste, se levantó Judas el galileo, en los días del censo, y llevó en pos de sí a bastante gente. Pereció también él, y todos los que le obedecían fueron dispersados.

38 A nd now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

Y en lo de ahora, os digo: Apartaos de estos hombres, y dejadlos en paz; porque si este plan o esta obra es de los hombres, se desvanecerá;

39 b ut if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

mas si es de Dios, no la podréis destruir; no sea que os encontréis luchando contra Dios.

40 A nd to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

Y fueron persuadidos por él; y llamando a los apóstoles, después de azotarlos, les intimaron que no hablasen en el nombre de Jesús, y los pusieron en libertad.

41 A nd they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

Y ellos salieron de la presencia del sanedrín, gozosos de haber sido tenidos por dignos de padecer afrenta por causa del Nombre.

42 A nd daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

Y todos los días, en el templo y por las casas, no cesaban de enseñar y predicar a Jesucristo.
