1 H e entered into a boat, and crossed over, and came into his own city.

And going on board the ship, he passed over and came to his own city.

2 B ehold, they brought to him a man who was paralyzed, lying on a bed. Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, “Son, cheer up! Your sins are forgiven you.”

And behold, they brought to him a paralytic, laid upon a bed; and Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, Be of good courage, child; thy sins are forgiven.

3 B ehold, some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man blasphemes.”

And behold, certain of the scribes said to themselves, This blasphemes.

4 J esus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?

And Jesus, seeing their thoughts, said, Why do ye think evil things in your hearts?

5 F or which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven;’ or to say, ‘Get up, and walk?’

For which is easier: to say, Thy sins are forgiven; or to say, Rise up and walk?

6 B ut that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins...” (then he said to the paralytic), “Get up, and take up your mat, and go up to your house.”

But that ye may know that the Son of man has power on earth to forgive sins, (then he says to the paralytic,) Rise up, take up thy bed and go to thy house.

7 H e arose and departed to his house.

And he rose up and went to his house.

8 B ut when the multitudes saw it, they marveled and glorified God, who had given such authority to men.

But the crowds seeing, were in fear, and glorified God who gave such power to men.

9 A s Jesus passed by from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax collection office. He said to him, “Follow me.” He got up and followed him.

And Jesus, passing on thence, saw a man sitting at the tax-office, called Matthew, and says to him, Follow me. And he rose up and followed him.

10 A s he sat in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples.

And it came to pass, as he lay at table in the house, that behold, many tax-gatherers and sinners came and lay at table with Jesus and his disciples.

11 W hen the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

And the Pharisees seeing, said to his disciples, Why does your teacher eat with tax-gatherers and sinners?

12 W hen Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick do.

But hearing it, said, They that are strong have not need of a physician, but those that are ill.

13 B ut you go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

But go and learn what is—I will have mercy and not sacrifice; for I have not come to call righteous but sinners.

14 T hen John’s disciples came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples don’t fast?”

Then come to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees often fast, but thy disciples fast not?

15 J esus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.

And Jesus said to them, Can the sons of the bridechamber mourn so long as the bridegroom is with them? But days will come when the bridegroom will have been taken away from them, and then they will fast.

16 N o one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch would tear away from the garment, and a worse hole is made.

But no one puts a patch of new cloth on an old garment, for its filling up takes from the garment and a worse rent takes place.

17 N either do people put new wine into old wine skins, or else the skins would burst, and the wine be spilled, and the skins ruined. No, they put new wine into fresh wine skins, and both are preserved.”

Nor do men put new wine into old skins, otherwise the skins burst and the wine is poured out, and the skins will be destroyed; but they put new wine into new skins, and both are preserved together.

18 W hile he told these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.”

As he spoke these things to them, behold, a ruler coming in did homage to him, saying, My daughter has by this died; but come and lay thy hand upon her and she shall live.

19 J esus got up and followed him, as did his disciples.

And Jesus rose up and followed him, and his disciples.

20 B ehold, a woman who had an issue of blood for twelve years came behind him, and touched the fringe of his garment;

And behold, a woman, who had had a bloody flux twelve years, came behind and touched the hem of his garment;

21 f or she said within herself, “If I just touch his garment, I will be made well.”

for she said within herself, If I should only touch his garment I shall be healed.

22 B ut Jesus, turning around and seeing her, said, “Daughter, cheer up! Your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour.

But Jesus turning and seeing her, said, Be of good courage, daughter; thy faith has healed thee. And the woman was healed from that hour.

23 W hen Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players, and the crowd in noisy disorder,

And when Jesus was come to the house of the ruler, and saw the flute-players and the crowd making a tumult,

24 h e said to them, “Make room, because the girl isn’t dead, but sleeping.” They were ridiculing him.

he said, Withdraw, for the damsel is not dead, but sleeps. And they derided him.

25 B ut when the crowd was put out, he entered in, took her by the hand, and the girl arose.

But when the crowd had been put out, he went in and took her hand; and the damsel rose up.

26 T he report of this went out into all that land.

And the fame of it went out into all that land.

27 A s Jesus passed by from there, two blind men followed him, calling out and saying, “Have mercy on us, son of David!”

And as Jesus passed on thence, two blind followed him, crying and saying, Have mercy on us, Son of David.

28 W hen he had come into the house, the blind men came to him. Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They told him, “Yes, Lord.”

And when he was come to the house, the blind came to him. And Jesus says to them, Do ye believe that I am able to do this? They say to him, Yea, Lord.

29 T hen he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.”

Then he touched their eyes, saying, According to your faith, be it unto you.

30 T heir eyes were opened. Jesus strictly commanded them, saying, “See that no one knows about this.”

And their eyes were opened; and Jesus charged them sharply, saying, See, let no man know it.

31 B ut they went out and spread abroad his fame in all that land.

But they, when they were gone out, spread his name abroad in all that land.

32 A s they went out, behold, a mute man who was demon possessed was brought to him.

But as these were going out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed by a demon.

33 W hen the demon was cast out, the mute man spoke. The multitudes marveled, saying, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel!”

And the demon having been cast out, the dumb spake. And the crowds were astonished, saying, It has never been seen thus in Israel.

34 B ut the Pharisees said, “By the prince of the demons, he casts out demons.”

But the Pharisees said, He casts out the demons through the prince of the demons.

35 J esus went about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the Good News of the Kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.

And Jesus went round all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the glad tidings of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every bodily weakness.

36 B ut when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion for them, because they were harassed and scattered, like sheep without a shepherd.

But when he saw the crowds he was moved with compassion for them, because they were harassed, and cast away as sheep not having a shepherd.

37 T hen he said to his disciples, “The harvest indeed is plentiful, but the laborers are few.

Then saith he to his disciples, The harvest great and the workmen few;

38 P ray therefore that the Lord of the harvest will send out laborers into his harvest.”

supplicate therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send forth workmen unto his harvest.
