1 I saac called Jacob, blessed him, and commanded him, “You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.

And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said to him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.

2 A rise, go to Paddan Aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father. Take a wife from there from the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother.

Arise, go to Padan-Aram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother's father, and take a wife thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother's brother.

3 M ay God Almighty bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, that you may be a company of peoples,

And the Almighty God bless thee, and make thee fruitful and multiply thee, that thou mayest become a company of peoples.

4 a nd give you the blessing of Abraham, to you, and to your offspring with you, that you may inherit the land where you travel, which God gave to Abraham.”

And may he give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee and to thy seed with thee, in order that thou mayest possess the land of thy sojourning, which God gave to Abraham!

5 I saac sent Jacob away. He went to Paddan Aram to Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, Rebekah’s brother, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.

And Isaac sent away Jacob; and he went to Padan-Aram, to Laban the son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebecca, Jacob's and Esau's mother.

6 N ow Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan Aram, to take him a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a command, saying, “You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan,”

And Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padan-Aram, to take a wife thence, blessing him, and giving him a charge saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;

7 a nd that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Paddan Aram.

and Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padan-Aram.

8 E sau saw that the daughters of Canaan didn’t please Isaac, his father.

And Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan were evil in the sight of Isaac his father.

9 E sau went to Ishmael, and took, besides the wives that he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebaioth, to be his wife.

And Esau went to Ishmael, and took, besides the wives that he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son, the sister of Nebaioth, to be his wife.

10 J acob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.

And Jacob went out from Beer-sheba, and went towards Haran.

11 H e came to a certain place, and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. He took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep.

And he lighted on a certain place, and lodged there, because the sun had set. And he took of the stones of the place, and made his pillow, and lay down in that place.

12 H e dreamed. Behold, a stairway set upon the earth, and its top reached to heaven. Behold, the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

And he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to the heavens. And behold, angels of God ascended and descended upon it.

13 B ehold, Yahweh stood above it, and said, “I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. The land whereon you lie, to you will I give it, and to your offspring.

And behold, Jehovah stood above it. And he said, I am Jehovah, the God of Abraham, thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land on which thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed.

14 Y our offspring will be as the dust of the earth, and you will spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. In you and in your offspring will all the families of the earth be blessed.

And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south; and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

15 B ehold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you, until I have done that which I have spoken of to you.”

And behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all to which thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee until I have done what I have spoken to thee of.

16 J acob awakened out of his sleep, and he said, “Surely Yahweh is in this place, and I didn’t know it.”

And Jacob awoke from his sleep, and said, Surely Jehovah is in this place, and I knew not.

17 H e was afraid, and said, “How dreadful is this place! This is none other than God’s house, and this is the gate of heaven.”

And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

18 J acob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put under his head, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on its top.

And Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had made his pillow, and set it up a pillar, and poured oil on the top of it.

19 H e called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first.

And he called the name of that place Beth-el; but the name of that city was Luz at the first.

20 J acob vowed a vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and clothing to put on,

And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and keep me on this road that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and a garment to put on,

21 s o that I come again to my father’s house in peace, and Yahweh will be my God,

and I come again to my father's house in peace—then shall Jehovah be my God.

22 t hen this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, will be God’s house. Of all that you will give me I will surely give a tenth to you.”

And this stone, which I have set up a pillar, shall be God's house; and of all that thou wilt give me I will without fail give the tenth to thee.
