1 B e imitators of me, even as I also am of Christ.
Be my imitators, even as I also of Christ.
2 N ow I praise you, brothers, that you remember me in all things, and hold firm the traditions, even as I delivered them to you.
Now I praise you, that in all things ye are mindful of me; and that as I have directed you, ye keep the directions.
3 B ut I would have you know that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God.
But I wish you to know that the Christ is the head of every man, but woman's head the man, and the Christ's head God.
4 E very man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head.
Every man praying or prophesying, having on his head, puts his head to shame.
5 B ut every woman praying or prophesying with her head unveiled dishonors her head. For it is one and the same thing as if she were shaved.
But every woman praying or prophesying with her head uncovered puts her own head to shame; for it is one and the same as a shaved.
6 F or if a woman is not covered, let her hair also be cut off. But if it is shameful for a woman to be have her hair cut off or shaved, let her be covered.
For if a woman be not covered, let her hair also be cut off. But if shameful to a woman to have her hair cut off or to be shaved, let her be covered.
7 F or a man indeed ought not to have his head covered, because he is the image and glory of God, but the woman is the glory of the man.
For man indeed ought not to have his head covered, being God's image and glory; but woman is man's glory.
8 F or man is not from woman, but woman from man;
For man is not of woman, but woman of man.
9 f or man wasn’t created for the woman, but woman for the man.
For also man was not created for the sake of the woman, but woman for the sake of the man.
10 F or this cause the woman ought to have authority on her head, because of the angels.
Therefore ought the woman to have authority on her head, on account of the angels.
11 N evertheless, neither is the woman independent of the man, nor the man independent of the woman, in the Lord.
However, neither woman without man, nor man without woman, in Lord.
12 F or as woman came from man, so a man also comes through a woman; but all things are from God.
For as the woman of the man, so also the man by the woman, but all things of God.
13 J udge for yourselves. Is it appropriate that a woman pray to God unveiled?
Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman should pray to God uncovered?
14 D oesn’t even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him?
Does not even nature itself teach you, that man, if he have long hair, it is a dishonour to him?
15 B ut if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her, for her hair is given to her for a covering.
But woman, if she have long hair, glory to her; for the long hair is given in lieu of a veil.
16 B ut if any man seems to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither do God’s assemblies.
But if any one think to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor the assemblies of God.
17 B ut in giving you this command, I don’t praise you, that you come together not for the better but for the worse.
But prescribing this, I do not praise, that ye come together, not for the better, but for the worse.
18 F or first of all, when you come together in the assembly, I hear that divisions exist among you, and I partly believe it.
For first, when ye come together in assembly, I hear there exist divisions among you, and I partly give credit.
19 F or there also must be factions among you, that those who are approved may be revealed among you.
For there must also be sects among you, that the approved may become manifest among you.
20 W hen therefore you assemble yourselves together, it is not the Lord’s supper that you eat.
When ye come therefore together into one place, it is not to eat Lord's supper.
21 F or in your eating each one takes his own supper first. One is hungry, and another is drunken.
For each one in eating takes his own supper before, and one is hungry and another drinks to excess.
22 W hat, don’t you have houses to eat and to drink in? Or do you despise God’s assembly, and put them to shame who don’t have? What shall I tell you? Shall I praise you? In this I don’t praise you.
Have ye not then houses for eating and drinking? or do ye despise the assembly of God, and put to shame them who have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you? In this I do not praise.
23 F or I received from the Lord that which also I delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night in which he was betrayed took bread.
For I received from the Lord, that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus, in the night in which he was delivered up, took bread,
24 W hen he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “Take, eat. This is my body, which is broken for you. Do this in memory of me.”
and having given thanks broke, and said, This is my body, which for you: this do in remembrance of me.
25 I n the same way he also took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink, in memory of me.”
In like manner also the cup, after having supped, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood: this do, as often as ye shall drink, in remembrance of me.
26 F or as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
For as often as ye shall eat this bread, and drink the cup, ye announce the death of the Lord, until he come.
27 T herefore whoever eats this bread or drinks the Lord’s cup in a way unworthy of the Lord will be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.
So that whosoever shall eat the bread, or drink the cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty in respect of the body and of the blood of the Lord.
28 B ut let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread, and drink of the cup.
But let a man prove himself, and thus eat of the bread, and drink of the cup.
29 F or he who eats and drinks in an unworthy way eats and drinks judgment to himself, if he doesn’t discern the Lord’s body.
For eater and drinker eats and drinks judgment to himself, not distinguishing the body.
30 F or this cause many among you are weak and sickly, and not a few sleep.
On this account many among you weak and infirm, and a good many are fallen asleep.
31 F or if we discerned ourselves, we wouldn’t be judged.
But if we judged ourselves, so were we not judged.
32 B ut when we are judged, we are punished by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.
But being judged, we are disciplined of Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.
33 T herefore, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.
So that, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, wait for one another.
34 B ut if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, lest your coming together be for judgment. The rest I will set in order whenever I come.
If any one be hungry, let him eat at home, that ye may not come together for judgment. But the other things, whenever I come, I will set in order.
