John 7 ~ John 7

1 A fter these things, Jesus was walking in Galilee, for he wouldn’t walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him.

And after these things Jesus walked in Galilee, for he would not walk in Judaea, because the Jews sought to kill him.

2 N ow the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was at hand.

Now the tabernacles, the feast of the Jews, was near.

3 H is brothers therefore said to him, “Depart from here, and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see your works which you do.

His brethren therefore said to him, Remove hence and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see thy works which thou doest;

4 F or no one does anything in secret, and himself seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, reveal yourself to the world.”

for no one does anything in secret and himself seeks to be in public. If thou doest these things, manifest thyself to the world:

5 F or even his brothers didn’t believe in him.

for neither did his brethren believe on him.

6 J esus therefore said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.

Jesus therefore says to them, My time is not yet come, but your time is always ready.

7 T he world can’t hate you, but it hates me, because I testify about it, that its works are evil.

The world cannot hate you, but me it hates, because I bear witness concerning it that its works are evil.

8 Y ou go up to the feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, because my time is not yet fulfilled.”

Ye, go ye up to this feast. I go not up to this feast, for my time is not yet fulfilled.

9 H aving said these things to them, he stayed in Galilee.

Having said these things to them he abode in Galilee.

10 B ut when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly, but as it were in secret.

But when his brethren had gone up, then he himself also went up to the feast, not openly, but as in secret.

11 T he Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, “Where is he?”

The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?

12 T here was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him. Some said, “He is a good man.” Others said, “Not so, but he leads the multitude astray.”

And there was much murmuring concerning him among the crowds. Some said, He is good; others said, No; but he deceives the crowd.

13 Y et no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.

However, no one spoke openly concerning him on account of fear of the Jews.

14 B ut when it was now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.

But when it was now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.

15 T he Jews therefore marveled, saying, “How does this man know letters, having never been educated?”

The Jews therefore wondered, saying, How knows this letters, having never learned?

16 J esus therefore answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.

Jesus therefore answered them and said, My doctrine is not mine, but of him that has sent me.

17 I f anyone desires to do his will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is from God, or if I am speaking from myself.

If any one desire to practise his will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is of God, or I speak from myself.

18 H e who speaks from himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

He that speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but he that seeks the glory of him that has sent him, he is true, and unrighteousness is not in him.

19 D idn’t Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill me?”

Has not Moses given you the law, and no one of you practises the law? Why do ye seek to kill me?

20 T he multitude answered, “You have a demon! Who seeks to kill you?”

The crowd answered, Thou hast a demon: who seeks to kill thee?

21 J esus answered them, “I did one work, and you all marvel because of it.

Jesus answered and said to them, I have done one work, and ye all wonder.

22 M oses has given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a boy.

Therefore Moses gave you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and ye circumcise a man on sabbath.

23 I f a boy receives circumcision on the Sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me, because I made a man completely healthy on the Sabbath?

If a man receives circumcision on sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be violated, are ye angry with me because I have made a man entirely sound on sabbath?

24 D on’t judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.”

Judge not according to sight, but judge righteous judgment.

25 T herefore some of them of Jerusalem said, “Isn’t this he whom they seek to kill?

Some therefore of those of Jerusalem said, Is not this he whom they seek to kill?

26 B ehold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is truly the Christ?

and behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Have the rulers then indeed recognised that this is the Christ?

27 H owever we know where this man comes from, but when the Christ comes, no one will know where he comes from.”

But this we know whence he is. Now the Christ, when he comes, no one knows whence he is.

28 J esus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, “You both know me, and know where I am from. I have not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you don’t know.

Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, Ye both know me and ye know whence I am; and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye do not know.

29 I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.”

I know him, because I am from him, and he has sent me.

30 T hey sought therefore to take him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.

They sought therefore to take him; and no one laid his hand upon him, because his hour had not yet come.

31 B ut of the multitude, many believed in him. They said, “When the Christ comes, he won’t do more signs than those which this man has done, will he?”

But many of the crowd believed on him, and said, Will the Christ, when he comes, do more signs than those which this has done?

32 T he Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.

The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things concerning him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers that they might take him.

33 T hen Jesus said, “I will be with you a little while longer, then I go to him who sent me.

Jesus therefore said, Yet a little while I am with you, and I go to him that has sent me.

34 Y ou will seek me, and won’t find me; and where I am, you can’t come.”

Ye shall seek me and shall not find, and where I am ye cannot come.

35 T he Jews therefore said among themselves, “Where will this man go that we won’t find him? Will he go to the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?

The Jews therefore said to one another, Where is he about to go that we shall not find him? Is he about to go to the dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?

36 W hat is this word that he said, ‘You will seek me, and won’t find me; and where I am, you can’t come’ ?”

What word is this which he said, Ye shall seek me and shall not find; and where I am ye cannot come?

37 N ow on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!

In the last, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried saying, If any one thirst, let him come to me and drink.

38 H e who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water.”

He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

39 B ut he said this about the Spirit, which those believing in him were to receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus wasn’t yet glorified.

But this he said concerning the Spirit, which they that believed on him were about to receive; for Spirit was not yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.

40 M any of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, “This is truly the prophet.”

out of the crowd therefore, having heard this word, said, This is truly the prophet.

41 O thers said, “This is the Christ.” But some said, “What, does the Christ come out of Galilee?

Others said, This is the Christ. Others said, Does then the Christ come out of Galilee?

42 H asn’t the Scripture said that the Christ comes of the offspring of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”

Has not the scripture said that the Christ comes of the seed of David, and from the village of Bethlehem, where David was?

43 S o there arose a division in the multitude because of him.

There was a division therefore in the crowd on account of him.

44 S ome of them would have arrested him, but no one laid hands on him.

But some of them desired to take him, but no one laid hands upon him.

45 T he officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why didn’t you bring him?”

The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, Why have ye not brought him?

46 T he officers answered, “No man ever spoke like this man!”

The officers answered, Never man spoke thus, as this man.

47 T he Pharisees therefore answered them, “You aren’t also led astray, are you?

The Pharisees therefore answered them, Are ye also deceived?

48 H ave any of the rulers believed in him, or of the Pharisees?

Has any one of the rulers believed on him, or of the Pharisees?

49 B ut this multitude that doesn’t know the law is accursed.”

But this crowd, which does not know the law, are accursed.

50 N icodemus (he who came to him by night, being one of them) said to them,

Nicodemus says to them (being one of themselves),

51 Does our law judge a man, unless it first hears from him personally and knows what he does?”

Does our law judge a man before it have first heard from himself, and know what he does?

52 T hey answered him, “Are you also from Galilee? Search, and see that no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.”

They answered and said to him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search and look, that no prophet arises out of Galilee.

53 E veryone went to his own house,

And every one went to his home.
