1 N ow He was also saying to the disciples, “There was a rich man who had a manager, and this manager was reported to him as squandering his possessions.

Đức Chúa Jêsus lại phán cùng môn đồ rằng: người giàu kia có một quản gia bị cáo với chủ rằng người tiêu phá của chủ.

2 A nd he called him and said to him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an accounting of your management, for you can no longer be manager.’

Vậy, chủ đòi người đó mà nói rằng: Ta nghe nói về ngươi nỗi chi? Hãy khai ra việc quản trị của ngươi, vì từ nay ngươi không được cai quản gia tài ta nữa.

3 T he manager said to himself, ‘What shall I do, since my master is taking the management away from me? I am not strong enough to dig; I am ashamed to beg.

Người quản gia tự nghĩ rằng: Chủ cách chức ta, ta sẽ làm gì? Làm ruộng thì ta không có sức làm nổi, còn đi ăn mày thì hổ ngươi.

4 I know what I shall do, so that when I am removed from the management people will welcome me into their homes.’

Ta biết điều ta sẽ làm, để khi bị cách chức, có kẻ tiếp rước ta về nhà.

5 A nd he summoned each one of his master’s debtors, and he began saying to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’

Ngài ấy bèn gọi riêng từng người mắc nợ chủ mình đến, và hỏi người thứ nhứt rằng: Ngươi mắc nợ chủ ta bao nhiêu?

6 A nd he said, ‘A hundred measures of oil.’ And he said to him, ‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’

Trả lời rằng: Một trăm thùng dầu. Quản gia nói rằng: Hãy cầm lấy từ khế, ngồi xuống đó, viết mau: Năm chục.

7 T hen he said to another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ And he said, ‘A hundred measures of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bill, and write eighty.’

Rồi hỏi người kia rằng: Còn ngươi, mắc bao nhiêu? Trả lời rằng: Một trăm hộc lúa mì. Quản gia rằng: Hãy cầm lấy tờ khế và viết: Tám chục.

8 A nd his master praised the unrighteous manager because he had acted shrewdly; for the sons of this age are more shrewd in relation to their own kind than the sons of light.

Chủ bèn khen quản gia bất nghĩa ấy về việc người đã làm khôn khéo như vậy. Vì con đời nầy trong việc thông công với người đồng đời mình thì khôn khéo hơn con sáng láng.

9 A nd I say to you, make friends for yourselves by means of the wealth of unrighteousness, so that when it fails, they will receive you into the eternal dwellings.

Còn ta nói cho các ngươi: Hãy dùng của bất nghĩa mà kết bạn, để khi của ấy hết đi, họ tiếp các ngươi vào nhà đời đời.

10 “ He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much.

Ai trung tín trong việc rất nhỏ, cũng trung tín trong việc lớn; ai bất nghĩa trong việc rất nhỏ, cũng bất nghĩa trong việc rất lớn.

11 T herefore if you have not been faithful in the use of unrighteous wealth, who will entrust the true riches to you?

Vậy nếu các ngươi không trung tín về của bất nghĩa, có ai đem của thật giao cho các ngươi?

12 A nd if you have not been faithful in the use of that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own?

Nếu các ngươi không trung tín về của người khác, ai sẽ cho các ngươi được của riêng mình?

13 N o servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”

Không có đầy tớ nào làm tôi hai chủ được; vì sẽ ghét chủ nầy mà yêu chủ kia, hay là hiệp với chủ nầy mà khinh dể chủ kia. Các ngươi không có thể đã làm tôi Đức Chúa Trời, lại làm tôi Ma-môn nữa.

14 N ow the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things and were scoffing at Him.

Người Pha-ri-si là kẻ ham tiền tài, nghe mọi điều đó, bèn chê cười Ngài.

15 A nd He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God.

Ngài phán cùng họ rằng: Các ngươi làm bộ công bình qua mặt người ta, song Đức Chúa Trời biết lòng các ngươi; vì sự người ta tôn trọng là gớm ghiếc trước mặt Đức Chúa Trời.

16 “ The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John; since that time the gospel of the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.

Luật pháp và các lời tiên tri có đến đời Giăng mà thôi; từ đó tin lành của nước Đức Chúa Trời được truyền ra, và ai nấy dùng sức mạnh mà vào đó.

17 B ut it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one stroke of a letter of the Law to fail.

Trời đất qua đi còn dễ hơn một nét chữ trong luật pháp phải bỏ đi.

18 “ Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries one who is divorced from a husband commits adultery. The Rich Man and Lazarus

Ai bỏ vợ mình mà cưới vợ khác, thì phạm tội tà dâm, ai cưới đờn bà bị chồng để, thì cũng phạm tội tà dâm.

19 “ Now there was a rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, joyously living in splendor every day.

Có một người giàu mặc áo tía và áo bằng vải gai mịn, hằng ngày ăn ở rất là sung sướng.

20 A nd a poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores,

Lại có một người nghèo, trên là La-xa-rơ, nằm ngoài cửa người giàu đó, mình đầy những ghẻ.

21 a nd longing to be fed with the crumbs which were falling from the rich man’s table; besides, even the dogs were coming and licking his sores.

Người ước ao được ăn những đồ ở trên bàn người giàu rớt xuống; cũng có chó đến liếm ghẻ người.

22 N ow the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried.

Vả, người nghèo chết, thiên sứ đem để vào lòng A

23 I n Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his bosom.

Người giàu ở nơi âm phủ đang bị đau đớn, ngước mắt lên, xa thấy A

24 A nd he cried out and said, ‘ Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.’

bèn kêu lên rằng: Hỡi A

25 B ut Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony.

Nhưng A

26 A nd besides all this, between us and you there is a great chasm fixed, so that those who wish to come over from here to you will not be able, and that none may cross over from there to us.’

Vả lại, có một vực sâu ở giữa chúng ta với ngươi, đến nỗi ai muốn từ đây qua đó không được, mà muốn từ đó qua đây cũng không được.

27 A nd he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, that you send him to my father’s house—

Người giàu nói rằng: Tổ tôi ơi! vậy thì xin sai La-xa-rơ đến nhà cha tôi,

28 f or I have five brothers—in order that he may warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’

vì tôi có năm anh em, đặng người làm chứng cho họ về những điều nầy, kẻo họ cũng xuống nơi đau đớn nầy chăng.

29 B ut Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’

30 B ut he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!’

Người giàu nói rằng: Thưa A

31 B ut he said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’”
