1 A nd the rulers of the people dwelt at Jerusalem: the rest of the people also cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem the holy city, and nine parts to dwell in other cities.

Now the leaders of the people dwelt at Jerusalem; the rest of the people also cast lots to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem, the holy city, while nine-tenths dwelt in other towns and villages.

2 A nd the people blessed all the men, that willingly offered themselves to dwell at Jerusalem.

And the people blessed all the men who willingly offered to live in Jerusalem.

3 N ow these are the chief of the province that dwelt in Jerusalem: but in the cities of Judah dwelt every one in his possession in their cities, to wit, Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the Nethinims, and the children of Solomon’s servants.

These are the province chiefs who dwelt in Jerusalem, but in the towns of Judah everyone lived on his property there—Israelites, the priests, the Levites, the temple servants, and the descendants of Solomon’s servants.

4 A nd at Jerusalem dwelt certain of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin. Of the children of Judah; Athaiah the son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalaleel, of the children of Perez;

And at Jerusalem dwelt certain of the sons of Judah and Benjamin. Of Judah: Athaiah son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalalel, of the sons of Perez;

5 a nd Maaseiah the son of Baruch, the son of Col-hozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, the son of Shiloni.

Maaseiah son of Baruch, the son of Col-hozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, the son of the Shilonite.

6 A ll the sons of Perez that dwelt at Jerusalem were four hundred threescore and eight valiant men.

All the sons of Perez who dwelt at Jerusalem were 468 valiant men.

7 A nd these are the sons of Benjamin; Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jesaiah.

These are the sons of Benjamin: Sallu son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, son of Jeshaiah,

8 A nd after him Gabbai, Sallai, nine hundred twenty and eight.

And after him Gabbai and Sallai, 928.

9 A nd Joel the son of Zichri was their overseer: and Judah the son of Senuah was second over the city.

Joel son of Zichri was overseer, and Judah son of Hassenuah was second over the city.

10 O f the priests: Jedaiah the son of Joiarib, Jachin.

Of the priests: Jedaiah son of Joiarib; Jachin;

11 S eraiah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, was the ruler of the house of God.

Seraiah son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, ruler of the house of God,

12 A nd their brethren that did the work of the house were eight hundred twenty and two: and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashur, the son of Malchiah,

And their brethren, who did the work of the house, 822; and Adaiah son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah,

13 a nd his brethren, chief of the fathers, two hundred forty and two: and Amashai the son of Azareel, the son of Ahasai, the son of Meshillemoth, the son of Immer,

And his brethren, chiefs of fathers’ houses, 242; and Amashsai son of Azarel, the son of Ahzai, the son of Meshillemoth, the son of Immer,

14 a nd their brethren, mighty men of valour, an hundred twenty and eight: and their overseer was Zabdiel, the son of one of the great men.

And their brethren, mighty men of valor, 128. Their overseer was Zabdiel son of Haggedolim.

15 A lso of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hashub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni;

And of the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni;

16 a nd Shabbethai and Jozabad, of the chief of the Levites, had the oversight of the outward business of the house of God.

And Shabbethai and Jozabad, of the chiefs of the Levites, who had charge of the outside work of the house of God;

17 A nd Mattaniah the son of Micha, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, was the principal to begin the thanksgiving in prayer: and Bakbukiah the second among his brethren, and Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.

Mattaniah son of Mica, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, the leader to begin the thanksgiving in prayer; and Bakbukiah, second among his brethren; and Abda son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.

18 A ll the Levites in the holy city were two hundred fourscore and four.

The Levites in the holy city were 284.

19 M oreover the porters, Akkub, Talmon, and their brethren that kept the gates, were an hundred seventy and two.

The gatekeepers: Akkub, Talmon, and their brethren, who kept watch, were 172.

20 A nd the residue of Israel, of the priests, and the Levites, were in all the cities of Judah, every one in his inheritance.

And the rest of Israel, with the priests and the Levites, were in all the cities of Judah, each in his inheritance.

21 B ut the Nethinims dwelt in Ophel: and Ziha and Gispa were over the Nethinims.

But the temple servants dwelt on Ophel; Ziha and Gishpa were over.

22 T he overseer also of the Levites at Jerusalem was Uzzi the son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Micha. Of the sons of Asaph, the singers were over the business of the house of God.

Overseer of the Levites in Jerusalem and the work of God’s house was Uzzi son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Mica, of Asaph’s sons, the singers.

23 F or it was the king’s commandment concerning them, that a certain portion should be for the singers, due for every day.

For the king had ordered concerning them that a certain provision be made for the singers, as each day required.

24 A nd Pethahiah the son of Meshezabeel, of the children of Zerah the son of Judah, was at the king’s hand in all matters concerning the people.

Pethahiah son of Meshezabel, of the sons of Zerah son of Judah, was at the king’s hand in all matters concerning the people.

25 A nd for the villages, with their fields, some of the children of Judah dwelt at Kirjath-arba, and in the villages thereof, and at Dibon, and in the villages thereof, and at Jekabzeel, and in the villages thereof,

As for the villages with their fields, some people of Judah dwelt in Kiriath-arba, Dibon, and Jekabzeel, and their villages,

26 a nd at Jeshua, and at Moladah, and at Beth-phelet,

In Jeshua, Moladah, Beth-pelet,

27 a nd at Hazar-shual, and at Beer-sheba, and in the villages thereof,

Hazar-shual, Beersheba and its villages,

28 a nd at Ziklag, and at Mekonah, and in the villages thereof,

Ziklag, Meconah and its villages,

29 a nd at En-rimmon, and at Zareah, and at Jarmuth,

En-rimmon, Zorah, Jarmuth,

30 Z anoah, Adullam, and in their villages, at Lachish, and the fields thereof, at Azekah, and in the villages thereof. And they dwelt from Beer-sheba unto the valley of Hinnom.

Zanoah, Adullam, and their villages, Lachish and its fields, Azekah and its villages. So they encamped from Beersheba to the Hinnom Valley.

31 T he children also of Benjamin from Geba dwelt at Michmash, and Aija, and Beth-el, and in their villages,

The people of Benjamin also dwelt from Geba onward, at Michmash, Aija, Bethel and its villages,

32 a nd at Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah,

At Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah,

33 H azor, Ramah, Gittaim,

Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim,

34 H adid, Zeboim, Neballat,

Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat,

35 L od, and Ono, the valley of craftsmen.

Lod, and Ono, the Valley of the Craftsmen.

36 A nd of the Levites were divisions in Judah, and in Benjamin.

And certain divisions of the Levites in Judah were joined to Benjamin.
