1 T he allotment for the people of Joseph went from the Jordan by Jericho, east of the waters of Jericho, into the wilderness, going up from Jericho into the hill country to Bethel;

The lot fell to the children of Joseph from the Jordan, by Jericho, to the waters of Jericho on the east, to the wilderness that goes up from Jericho through the mountains to Bethel,

2 T hen it went from Bethel to Luz and passed on to Ataroth, the border of the Archites.

then went out from Bethel to Luz, passed along to the border of the Archites at Ataroth,

3 A nd it went down westward to the territory of the Japhletites as far as the outskirts of Lower Beth-horon, then to Gezer, and ended at the sea.

4 T he descendants of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, received their inheritance.

8 T he border went out from Tappuah westward to the brook Kanah and ended at the Sea. This is the inheritance of the Ephraimites by their families,

9 W ith the towns set apart for the Ephraimites within the inheritance of the Manassites, all those towns with their villages.

10 B ut they did not drive out the Canaanites who dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites to this day, and they became slaves required to do forced labor.
