They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.
5 T hey were hungry and thirsty; Their soul fainted within them.
Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
6 T hen they cried out to the Lord in their trouble; He delivered them out of their distresses.
Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.

And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.
8 L et them give thanks to the Lord for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!
Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
10 T here were those who dwelt in darkness and in the shadow of death, Prisoners in misery and chains,
Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron;
11 B ecause they had rebelled against the words of God And spurned the counsel of the Most High.
Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:
12 T herefore He humbled their heart with labor; They stumbled and there was none to help.
Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help.
13 T hen they cried out to the Lord in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses.
Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.
14 H e brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death And broke their bands apart.
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.
15 L et them give thanks to the Lord for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!
Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
16 F or He has shattered gates of bronze And cut bars of iron asunder.
For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.
17 F ools, because of their rebellious way, And because of their iniquities, were afflicted.
Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.
18 T heir soul abhorred all kinds of food, And they drew near to the gates of death.
Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.
19 T hen they cried out to the Lord in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses.
Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.
20 H e sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions.
He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
21 L et them give thanks to the Lord for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!
Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
22 L et them also offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, And tell of His works with joyful singing.
And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.
23 T hose who go down to the sea in ships, Who do business on great waters;
They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;
24 T hey have seen the works of the Lord, And His wonders in the deep.
These see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep.
25 F or He spoke and raised up a stormy wind, Which lifted up the waves of the sea.
For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.
26 T hey rose up to the heavens, they went down to the depths; Their soul melted away in their misery.
They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.
27 T hey reeled and staggered like a drunken man, And were at their wits’ end.
They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit's end.
28 T hen they cried to the Lord in their trouble, And He brought them out of their distresses.
Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.
29 H e caused the storm to be still, So that the waves of the sea were hushed.
He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
30 T hen they were glad because they were quiet, So He guided them to their desired haven.
Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
31 L et them give thanks to the Lord for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!
Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
32 L et them extol Him also in the congregation of the people, And praise Him at the seat of the elders.
Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.
33 H e changes rivers into a wilderness And springs of water into a thirsty ground;
He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;
34 A fruitful land into a salt waste, Because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.
35 H e changes a wilderness into a pool of water And a dry land into springs of water;
He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.
36 A nd there He makes the hungry to dwell, So that they may establish an inhabited city,
And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation;

And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.

39 W hen they are diminished and bowed down Through oppression, misery and sorrow,
Again, they are minished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.
40 H e pours contempt upon princes And makes them wander in a pathless waste.
He poureth contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.
41 B ut He sets the needy securely on high away from affliction, And makes his families like a flock.
Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction, and maketh him families like a flock.
42 T he upright see it and are glad; But all unrighteousness shuts its mouth.
The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.

Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the Lord.
