1 N ow these are the records of the generations of Esau (that is, Edom).

Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom.

2 E sau took his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah the daughter of Anah and the granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite;

Esau took his wives of the daughters of Canaan; Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite;

3 a lso Basemath, Ishmael’s daughter, the sister of Nebaioth.

And Bashemath Ishmael's daughter, sister of Nebajoth.

4 A dah bore Eliphaz to Esau, and Basemath bore Reuel,

And Adah bare to Esau Eliphaz; and Bashemath bare Reuel;

5 a nd Oholibamah bore Jeush and Jalam and Korah. These are the sons of Esau who were born to him in the land of Canaan.

And Aholibamah bare Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah: these are the sons of Esau, which were born unto him in the land of Canaan.

6 T hen Esau took his wives and his sons and his daughters and all his household, and his livestock and all his cattle and all his goods which he had acquired in the land of Canaan, and went to another land away from his brother Jacob.

And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and his cattle, and all his beasts, and all his substance, which he had got in the land of Canaan; and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob.

7 F or their property had become too great for them to live together, and the land where they sojourned could not sustain them because of their livestock.

For their riches were more than that they might dwell together; and the land wherein they were strangers could not bear them because of their cattle.

8 S o Esau lived in the hill country of Seir; Esau is Edom. Descendants of Esau

Thus dwelt Esau in mount Seir: Esau is Edom.

9 T hese then are the records of the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in the hill country of Seir.

And these are the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in mount Seir:

10 T hese are the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz the son of Esau’s wife Adah, Reuel the son of Esau’s wife Basemath.

These are the names of Esau's sons; Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, Reuel the son of Bashemath the wife of Esau.

11 T he sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho and Gatam and Kenaz.

And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, and Gatam, and Kenaz.

12 T imna was a concubine of Esau’s son Eliphaz and she bore Amalek to Eliphaz. These are the sons of Esau’s wife Adah.

And Timna was concubine to Eliphaz Esau's son; and she bare to Eliphaz Amalek: these were the sons of Adah Esau's wife.

13 T hese are the sons of Reuel: Nahath and Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These were the sons of Esau’s wife Basemath.

And these are the sons of Reuel; Nahath, and Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah: these were the sons of Bashemath Esau's wife.

14 T hese were the sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah and the granddaughter of Zibeon: she bore to Esau, Jeush and Jalam and Korah.

And these were the sons of Aholibamah, the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon, Esau's wife: and she bare to Esau Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah.

15 T hese are the chiefs of the sons of Esau. The sons of Eliphaz, the firstborn of Esau, are chief Teman, chief Omar, chief Zepho, chief Kenaz,

These were dukes of the sons of Esau: the sons of Eliphaz the firstborn son of Esau; duke Teman, duke Omar, duke Zepho, duke Kenaz,

16 c hief Korah, chief Gatam, chief Amalek. These are the chiefs descended from Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Adah.

Duke Korah, duke Gatam, and duke Amalek: these are the dukes that came of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these were the sons of Adah.

17 T hese are the sons of Reuel, Esau’s son: chief Nahath, chief Zerah, chief Shammah, chief Mizzah. These are the chiefs descended from Reuel in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Esau’s wife Basemath.

And these are the sons of Reuel Esau's son; duke Nahath, duke Zerah, duke Shammah, duke Mizzah: these are the dukes that came of Reuel in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Bashemath Esau's wife.

18 T hese are the sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah: chief Jeush, chief Jalam, chief Korah. These are the chiefs descended from Esau’s wife Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah.

And these are the sons of Aholibamah Esau's wife; duke Jeush, duke Jaalam, duke Korah: these were the dukes that came of Aholibamah the daughter of Anah, Esau's wife.

19 T hese are the sons of Esau (that is, Edom), and these are their chiefs.

These are the sons of Esau, who is Edom, and these are their dukes.

20 T hese are the sons of Seir the Horite, the inhabitants of the land: Lotan and Shobal and Zibeon and Anah,

These are the sons of Seir the Horite, who inhabited the land; Lotan, and Shobal, and Zibeon, and Anah,

21 a nd Dishon and Ezer and Dishan. These are the chiefs descended from the Horites, the sons of Seir in the land of Edom.

And Dishon, and Ezer, and Dishan: these are the dukes of the Horites, the children of Seir in the land of Edom.

22 T he sons of Lotan were Hori and Hemam; and Lotan’s sister was Timna.

And the children of Lotan were Hori and Hemam; and Lotan's sister was Timna.

23 T hese are the sons of Shobal: Alvan and Manahath and Ebal, Shepho and Onam.

And the children of Shobal were these; Alvan, and Manahath, and Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.

24 T hese are the sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah—he is the Anah who found the hot springs in the wilderness when he was pasturing the donkeys of his father Zibeon.

And these are the children of Zibeon; both Ajah, and Anah: this was that Anah that found the mules in the wilderness, as he fed the asses of Zibeon his father.

25 T hese are the children of Anah: Dishon, and Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah.

And the children of Anah were these; Dishon, and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah.

26 T hese are the sons of Dishon: Hemdan and Eshban and Ithran and Cheran.

And these are the children of Dishon; Hemdan, and Eshban, and Ithran, and Cheran.

27 T hese are the sons of Ezer: Bilhan and Zaavan and Akan.

The children of Ezer are these; Bilhan, and Zaavan, and Akan.

28 T hese are the sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran.

The children of Dishan are these; Uz, and Aran.

29 T hese are the chiefs descended from the Horites: chief Lotan, chief Shobal, chief Zibeon, chief Anah,

These are the dukes that came of the Horites; duke Lotan, duke Shobal, duke Zibeon, duke Anah,

30 c hief Dishon, chief Ezer, chief Dishan. These are the chiefs descended from the Horites, according to their various chiefs in the land of Seir.

Duke Dishon, duke Ezer, duke Dishan: these are the dukes that came of Hori, among their dukes in the land of Seir.

31 N ow these are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the sons of Israel.

And these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom, before there reigned any king over the children of Israel.

32 B ela the son of Beor reigned in Edom, and the name of his city was Dinhabah.

And Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom: and the name of his city was Dinhabah.

33 T hen Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah became king in his place.

And Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his stead.

34 T hen Jobab died, and Husham of the land of the Temanites became king in his place.

And Jobab died, and Husham of the land of Temani reigned in his stead.

35 T hen Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the field of Moab, became king in his place; and the name of his city was Avith.

And Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad, who smote Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his stead: and the name of his city was Avith.

36 T hen Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah became king in his place.

And Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his stead.

37 T hen Samlah died, and Shaul of Rehoboth on the Euphrates River became king in his place.

And Samlah died, and Saul of Rehoboth by the river reigned in his stead.

38 T hen Shaul died, and Baal-hanan the son of Achbor became king in his place.

And Saul died, and Baalhanan the son of Achbor reigned in his stead.

39 T hen Baal-hanan the son of Achbor died, and Hadar became king in his place; and the name of his city was Pau; and his wife’s name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, daughter of Mezahab.

And Baalhanan the son of Achbor died, and Hadar reigned in his stead: and the name of his city was Pau; and his wife's name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab.

40 N ow these are the names of the chiefs descended from Esau, according to their families and their localities, by their names: chief Timna, chief Alvah, chief Jetheth,

And these are the names of the dukes that came of Esau, according to their families, after their places, by their names; duke Timnah, duke Alvah, duke Jetheth,

41 c hief Oholibamah, chief Elah, chief Pinon,
