1 G ive ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine forth.

Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, You Who lead Joseph like a flock; You Who sit enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth

2 B efore Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh stir up thy strength, and come and save us.

Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh! Stir up Your might, and come to save us!

3 T urn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

Restore us again, O God; and cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved!

4 O Lord God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people?

O Lord God of hosts, how long will You be angry with Your people’s prayers?

5 T hou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure.

You have fed them with the bread of tears, and You have given them tears to drink in large measure.

6 T hou makest us a strife unto our neighbours: and our enemies laugh among themselves.

You make us a strife and scorn to our neighbors, and our enemies laugh among themselves.

7 T urn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

Restore us again, O God of hosts; and cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved!

8 T hou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.

You brought a vine out of Egypt; You drove out the nations and planted it.

9 T hou preparedst room before it, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land.

You prepared room before it, and it took deep root and it filled the land.

10 T he hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the goodly cedars.

The mountains were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs of it were like the great cedars.

11 S he sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river.

sent out its boughs to the Sea and its branches to the River.

12 W hy hast thou then broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?

Why have You broken down its hedges and walls so that all who pass by pluck from its fruit?

13 T he boar out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.

The boar out of the wood wastes it and the wild beast of the field feeds on it.

14 R eturn, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;

Turn again, we beseech You, O God of hosts! Look down from heaven and see, visit, and have regard for this vine!

15 A nd the vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch that thou madest strong for thyself.

the stock which Your right hand planted, and the branch (the son) that You have reared and made strong for Yourself.

16 I t is burned with fire, it is cut down: they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.

They have burned it with fire, it is cut down; may they perish at the rebuke of Your countenance.

17 L et thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself.

Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, upon the son of man whom You have made strong for Yourself.

18 S o will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.

Then will we not depart from You; revive us (give us life) and we will call upon Your name.

19 T urn us again, O Lord God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

Restore us, O Lord God of hosts; cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved!
