1 A nd it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him,
Soon afterward, went on through towns and villages, preaching and bringing the good news (the Gospel) of the kingdom of God. And the Twelve were with Him,
2 A nd certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils,
And also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had been expelled;
3 A nd Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance.
And Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s household manager; and Susanna; and many others, who ministered to and provided for Him and them out of their property and personal belongings.
4 A nd when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable:
And when a very great throng was gathering together and people from town after town kept coming to Jesus, He said in a parable:
5 A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
A sower went out to sow seed; and as he sowed, some fell along the traveled path and was trodden underfoot, and the birds of the air ate it up.
6 A nd some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.
And some fell on the rock, and as soon as it sprouted, it withered away because it had no moisture.
7 A nd some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.
And other fell in the midst of the thorns, and the thorns grew up with it and choked it.
8 A nd other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
And some seed fell into good soil, and grew up and yielded a crop a hundred times. As He said these things, He called out, He who has ears to hear, let him be listening and let him consider and understand by hearing!
9 A nd his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be?
And when His disciples asked Him the meaning of this parable,
10 A nd he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.
He said to them, To you it has been given to know (to recognize and understand more strongly and clearly) the mysteries and secrets of the kingdom of God, but for others they are in parables, so that, looking, they may not see; and hearing, they may not comprehend.
11 N ow the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
Now the meaning of the parable is this: The seed is the Word of God.
12 T hose by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
Those along the traveled road are the people who have heard; then the devil comes and carries away the message out of their hearts, that they may not believe ( acknowledge Me as their Savior and devote themselves to Me) and be saved.
13 T hey on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
And those upon the rock who, when they hear, receive and welcome it with joy; but these have no root. They believe for a while, and in time of trial and temptation fall away (withdraw and stand aloof).
14 A nd that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
And as for what fell among the thorns, these are who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked and suffocated with the anxieties and cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not ripen (come to maturity and perfection).
15 B ut that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.
But as for that in the good soil, these are who, hearing the Word, hold it fast in a just ( noble, virtuous) and worthy heart, and steadily bring forth fruit with patience.
16 N o man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
No one after he has lighted a lamp covers it with a vessel or puts it under a couch; but he puts it on a lampstand, that those who come in may see the light.
17 F or nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.
For there is nothing hidden that shall not be disclosed, nor anything secret that shall not be known and come out into the open.
18 T ake heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.
Be careful therefore how you listen. For to him who has will more be given; and from him who does not have, even what he thinks and guesses and supposes that he has will be taken away.
19 T hen came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press.
Then Jesus’ mother and His brothers came along toward Him, but they could not get to Him because of the crowd.
20 A nd it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.
And it was told Him, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, desiring to have an interview with You.
21 A nd he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.
But He answered them, My mother and My brothers are those who listen to the Word of God and do it!
22 N ow it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.
One of those days He and His disciples got into a boat, and He said to them, Let us go across to the other side of the lake. So they put out to sea.
23 B ut as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.
But as they were sailing, He fell off to sleep. And a whirlwind revolving from below upwards swept down on the lake, and the boat was filling with water, and they were in great danger.
24 A nd they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.
And the disciples came and woke Him, saying, Master, Master, we are perishing! And He, being thoroughly awakened, censured and blamed and rebuked the wind and the raging waves; and they ceased, and there came a calm.
25 A nd he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.
And He said to them, Where is your faith (your trust, your confidence in Me—in My veracity and My integrity)? And they were seized with alarm and profound and reverent dread, and they marveled, saying to one another, Who then is this, that He commands even wind and sea, and they obey Him?
26 A nd they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee.
Then they came to the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee.
27 A nd when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.
Now when Jesus stepped out on land, there met Him a certain man out of the town who had demons. For a long time he had worn no clothes, and he lived not in a house but in the tombs.
28 W hen he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not.
And when he saw Jesus, he raised a deep (terrible) cry and fell down before Him and shouted loudly, What have You with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? '> What have we in common?] I beg You, do not torment me!
29 ( For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.)
For Jesus was already commanding the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For many times it had snatched and held him; he was kept under guard and bound with chains and fetters, but he would break the bonds and be driven by the demon into the wilderness (desert).
30 A nd Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him.
Jesus then asked him, What is your name? And he answered, Legion; for many demons had entered him.
31 A nd they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep.
And they begged not to command them to depart into the Abyss (bottomless pit).
32 A nd there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them.
Now a great herd of swine was there feeding on the hillside; and begged Him to give them leave to enter these. And He allowed them.
33 T hen went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.
Then the demons came out of the man and entered into the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep cliff into the lake and were drowned.
34 W hen they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country.
When the herdsmen saw what had happened, they ran away and told it in the town and in the country.
35 T hen they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
And went out to see what had occurred, and they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right (sound) mind; and they were seized with alarm and fear.
36 T hey also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed.
And those who had seen it told them how he who had been possessed with demons was restored.
37 T hen the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again.
Then all the people of the country surrounding the Gerasenes’ district asked to depart from them, for they were possessed and suffering with dread and terror; so He entered a boat and returned.
38 N ow the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying,
But the man from whom the demons had gone out kept begging and praying that he might accompany Him and be with Him, but sent him away, saying,
39 R eturn to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.
Return to your home, and recount of how many and great things God has done for you. And departed, proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him.
40 A nd it came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him: for they were all waiting for him.
Now when Jesus came back, the crowd received and welcomed Him gladly, for they were all waiting and looking for Him.
41 A nd, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought him that he would come into his house:
And there came a man named Jairus, who had '> long time] been a director of the synagogue; and falling at the feet of Jesus, he begged Him to come to his house,
42 F or he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him.
For he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. As went, the people pressed together around Him.
43 A nd a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
And a woman who had suffered from a flow of blood for twelve years and had spent all her living upon physicians, and could not be healed by anyone,
44 C ame behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
Came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His garment, and immediately her flow of blood ceased.
45 A nd Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
And Jesus said, Who is it who touched Me? When all were denying it, Peter and those who were with him said, Master, the multitudes surround You and press You on every side!
46 A nd Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.
But Jesus said, Someone did touch Me; for I perceived that power has gone forth from Me.
47 A nd when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.
And when the woman saw that she had not escaped notice, she came up trembling, and, falling down before Him, she declared in the presence of all the people for what reason she had touched Him and how she had been instantly cured.
48 A nd he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.
And He said to her, Daughter, your faith (your confidence and trust in Me) has made you well! Go (enter) into peace ( untroubled, undisturbed well-being).
49 W hile he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master.
While He was still speaking, a man from the house of the director of the synagogue came and said, Your daughter is dead; do not weary and trouble the Teacher any further.
50 B ut when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.
But Jesus, on hearing this, answered him, Do not be seized with alarm or struck with fear; simply believe '> in Me as able to do this], and she shall be made well.
51 A nd when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden.
And when He came to the house, He permitted no one to enter with Him except Peter and John and James, and the girl’s father and mother.
52 A nd all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth.
And all were weeping for and bewailing her; but He said, Do not weep, for she is not dead but sleeping.
53 A nd they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.
And they laughed Him to scorn, knowing full well that she was dead.
54 A nd he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise.
And grasping her hand, He called, saying, Child, arise '> from the sleep of death]!
55 A nd her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat.
And her spirit returned '> from death], and she arose immediately; and He directed that she should be given something to eat.
56 A nd her parents were astonished: but he charged them that they should tell no man what was done.
And her parents were amazed, but He charged them to tell no one what had occurred.
