1 ه ذهِ هِيَ كَلِماتُ داوُدَ الأخِيرَةُ: «هذهِ الكَلِماتُ مِنْ داوُدَ بْنِ يسّى، مِنَ الرَّجُلِ الذي جَعَلَهُ اللهُ عَظِيماً، المَلِكِ الَّذي اخْتارَهُ إلهُ يَعْقُوبَ، المُرَنِّمِ العَذْبِ فِي إسْرائِيل.

Now these are the last words of David. Thus says David the son of Jesse; Thus says the man raised up on high, The anointed of the God of Jacob, And the sweet psalmist of Israel:

2 « رُوحُ اللهِ تَكَلَّمَ فيَّ. كَلِمَتُهُ كانَتْ عَلَى لِساني.

“The Spirit of the Lord spoke by me, And His word was on my tongue.

3 إ لهُ إسْرائِيل تَكَلَّمَ، صخرةُ إسْرائِيل قالَ لي: ‹من يَحكُمُ النّاسَ بِعَدلٍ، مَنْ يَحكُمُ فِي خَوْفِ اللهِ،

The God of Israel said, The Rock of Israel spoke to me: ‘He who rules over men must be just, Ruling in the fear of God.

4 س َيَكونُ كَضَوْءِ الصّباحِ عِنْدَ إشْراقِ الشَّمْسِ، كَالصَّباحِ بِلا غُيُومٍ. سيكونُ كَالعشبِ الأخضرِ الطرِيِّ، الخارِجِ بِفعلِ شُرُوقِ الشَّمْسِ بَعْدَ المَطَرِ.›

And he shall be like the light of the morning when the sun rises, A morning without clouds, Like the tender grass springing out of the earth, By clear shining after rain.’

5 « جَعَلَ اللهُ عائِلتي قَوِيَّةً آمِنَةً. قَطَعَ مَعِي عَهداً إلَى الأبدِ! حَرِصَ اللهُ عَلَى أنْ يَكُونَ العَهْدُ مُحكَماً وَآمِناً، فلا شكَّ بأنَّهُ سَيَمْنَحُني كُلَّ انْتِصارٍ سَيَمْنَحُني كُلَّ ما أُريدُ!

“Although my house is not so with God, Yet He has made with me an everlasting covenant, Ordered in all things and secure. For this is all my salvation and all my desire; Will He not make it increase?

6 « أمّا الأشْرارُ فَكَالشَّوْكِ. بلا فائدة أوْ منفعة، يُلقَوْنَ إلَى الأرْضِ، وَلا تَرْفَعُهُمْ يَدٌ.

But the sons of rebellion shall all be as thorns thrust away, Because they cannot be taken with hands.

7 إ نْ لَمَسَهُمْ أحدٌ، تأذّى كَما لَوْ لامَسَ رُمْحاً مِنْ خَشَبٍ أوْ مِنْ حَديدٍ. أجلْ، أولئِكَ النّاسُ هُمْ كَالأشواكِ. وسيُلقَى بِهِمْ فِي النّارِ، فَيَحْتَرِقونَ احْتِراقاً!» أبْطالُ داوُد

But the man who touches them Must be armed with iron and the shaft of a spear, And they shall be utterly burned with fire in their place.” David’s Mighty Men

8 و َهَذِهِ هِيَ أسماءُ جُنُودِ داوُدَ الجَبابرةِ: إيشْبُوشَثُ التَّحْكَمُونِيُّ وَهُوَ قائِدُ قُوّاتِ المَلِكِ الخاصَّةِ. كَذَلِكَ يُدعَى عَدينُو العَصْنيَّ، وقَدْ قَتَلَ ثَمانِي مِئةِ رجُلٍ فِي مُواجَهةٍ واحِدَةٍ.

These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: Josheb-Basshebeth the Tachmonite, chief among the captains. He was called Adino the Eznite, because he had killed eight hundred men at one time.

9 ت لاهُ أليعازر بنُ دودو الأخُوخِي. وَهُوَ واحِدٌ مِنَ الأبطالِ الثلاثةِ الّذين كانوا مع داوُدَ في الوقتِ الذي تحدَّوْا فيهِ الفِلِسْطيّينَ. كانوا قدِ اجْتمعوا لِلْمَعْرَكَةِ، لكِنَّ جُنودَ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ انْسَحَبُوا.

And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David when they defied the Philistines who were gathered there for battle, and the men of Israel had retreated.

10 و َحارَبَ أليِعازَرُ الفِلَسْطيّينَ إلَى أنْ تعِبَ كثيراً. لَكِنَّهُ ظَلَّ مُتَمَسِّكاً بِسَيفِهِ، وَاستمَّر في القتالِ. وَقَدْ نَصَرَ اللهُ إسْرائِيلَ فِي ذَلِكَ اليومِ نَصراً عَظِيماً. وَعادَ النّاسُ بَعْدَ أنْ فازَ أليِعازرُ فِي المَعْرَكَةِ، لكنَّهم جاءُوا فَقَطْ ليأخذوا الغَنائِمَ مِنْ جُنودِ العَدُوِّ المَقْتُولِينَ.

He arose and attacked the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand stuck to the sword. The Lord brought about a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to plunder.

11 و َتلاهُ شمَّةُ بْنُ آجِي مِنْ هارارَ. فَحِينَ اجْتَمَعَ الفِلَسْطيوّنَ وجاءُوا للقِتال، وَحاربوا فِي حَقلٍ للعَدَسِ، هَرَبَ النّاسُ مِنْهُم.

And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. The Philistines had gathered together into a troop where there was a piece of ground full of lentils. So the people fled from the Philistines.

12 ل كِنَّ شمّة وقَفَ وَسَطَ الحَقلِ ودافَعَ عَنهُ، وهَزَمَ الفِلسْطيّينَ. ونَصَرَ اللهُ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ في ذَلِكَ اليَومِ نَصراً عظيماً.

But he stationed himself in the middle of the field, defended it, and killed the Philistines. So the Lord brought about a great victory.

13 و ذاتَ مَرَّةٍ، كانَ داوُدَ فِي مَغارةِ عَدُلّام، وَالجيشُ الفِلِسْطِيُّ مُعسكِرٌ فِي وادِي رَفائِيمَ. فَزَحَف ثلاثَةٌ مِنَ الأبْطالِ الثّلاثينَ عَلَى الأرْضِ، عَلَى طولِ الدَّرْبِ إلَى المَغارَةِ لِكَي ينضمّوا إلَى داوُدَ.

Then three of the thirty chief men went down at harvest time and came to David at the cave of Adullam. And the troop of Philistines encamped in the Valley of Rephaim.

14 ف ِي ذَلِكَ الوَقْتِ، كانَ داوُدَ في الحِصنِ، وفرِقَةٌ مِنَ الجُنودِ الفِلَسْطيّينَ فِي بَيتَ لحْمَ.

David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.

15 و َقالَ داوُدُ بِحَنِينٍ: «أتَمَنَّى لَو يُعْطِيَني أحَدٌ بَعْضَ الماءِ مِنَ البِئْرِ الَّتِي بِالقرُبِ مِنْ بوَّابَةِ بَيْتَ لَحْمَ!»

And David said with longing, “Oh, that someone would give me a drink of the water from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!”

16 ف َشَقَّ الأبطالَ الثَّلاثَةَ طريقَهُمْ عَبْرَ صُفوفِ الجَيشِ الفِلِسْطيِّ، وَنَشَلُوا بَعْضَ الماءِ مِنْ البِئْرِ الَّتِي بِالقُرْبِ مِنْ بوّابةِ بَيْتَ لَحْمَ، وَجاءُوا بِهِ إلَى داوُدَ. فَرَفَضَ أنْ يَشْرَبَ مِنْهُ، بَلْ سَكبَهُ تَقْدِمَةً للهِ.

So the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines, drew water from the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate, and took it and brought it to David. Nevertheless he would not drink it, but poured it out to the Lord.

17 و َقالَ: «لا سَمَحَ اللهُ! كَيفَ أشرَبُ مِنْ هذا الماءَ؟ فكأنَّني أشرَبُ دَمَ الرِّجالِ الّذين خاطَرُوا بَحَياتِهِمْ مِنْ أجلِي.» فَرَفَضَ داوُدُ أنْ يَشْرَبَ الماءَ. وَقَدْ فَعَلَ الأبطالُ الثَّلاثَةُ كَثِيراً مِنَ البُطُولاتِ. جنودٌ شجعانٌ آخرون

And he said, “Far be it from me, O Lord, that I should do this! Is this not the blood of the men who went in jeopardy of their lives?” Therefore he would not drink it. These things were done by the three mighty men.

18 ك انَ أبِيشايُ، أخا يُوآبَ بْنِ صُرُوِيَّةَ، قائدَ الأبْطالِ الثَّلاثّةِ. فَقَدْ قَتَلَ بِرُمْحِهِ ثَلاثَ مِئَةِ مِنْ أعْدائِهِ. فَأصْبَحَ مَشْهوراً كَالأبطالِ الثَّلاثَةِ.

Now Abishai the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief of another three. He lifted his spear against three hundred men, killed them, and won a name among these three.

19 ث ُمَّ أصْبَحَ قائِدَ الثَّلاثَةِ، مَعَ أنَّهُ لمْ يَصِلْ إلَى مَهارَتِهِمْ.

Was he not the most honored of three? Therefore he became their captain. However, he did not attain to the first three.

20 ث ُمَّ هُناكَ بَناياهُو بنُ يَهُوياداعَ، وهو ابنُ رجُلٍ قوِيٍّ مِنْ قَبْصِئِيلَ. وَهُوَ مَعرُوفٌ بِأعمالِهِ الشُّجاعَةِ. فَقَتَلَ إبنَي آريل المُوآبي. وفي أحدِ الأيامِ، بَيْنَما كانَ الثَّلْجُ يَتَساقَطُ، دَخَلَ بَناياهُو حُفْرَةً فِي الأرْضِ وَقَتَلَ أسَداً.

Benaiah was the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man from Kabzeel, who had done many deeds. He had killed two lion-like heroes of Moab. He also had gone down and killed a lion in the midst of a pit on a snowy day.

21 ك َذَلِكَ قَتَلَ جُنديًّا مِصْريًّا ضَخْماً. كانَ المِصْريُّ يَحْمِلُ فِي يَدِهِ رُمْحاً، أمّا بَناياهُو فَكانَ يَحْمِلُ عَصاً لَيسَ إلّا. فَخَطَفَ الرُّمْحَ الذَي كانَ فِي يَدِ المِصْريِّ وَأخَذهُ مِنْهُ. ثُمَّ قَتَلَ بَناياهُو المِصْريَّ بِرُمْحِهِ.

And he killed an Egyptian, a spectacular man. The Egyptian had a spear in his hand; so he went down to him with a staff, wrested the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and killed him with his own spear.

22 ق امَ بَناياهُو بنُ يَهُوياداعَ بِأعْمالٍ كَثيرَةٍ شُجاعَةٍ كَهَذِهِ. وَكانَ مَشْهوراً كَالأبطالِ الثَّلاثَةِ.

These things Benaiah the son of Jehoiada did, and won a name among three mighty men.

23 م َعَ أنَّهُ كانَ أكثرَ شُهْرَةً مِنَ الأبْطالِ الثّلاثينَ، لكِنَّهُ لَمْ يُصْبِحْ وَاحِداً مِنَ الأبطالِ الثَّلاثَةِ. وقدْ جَعَلَ داودُ بَناياهُو قائِدَ حَرَسِهِ الخاصِّ. الأبطالُ الثلاثون

He was more honored than the thirty, but he did not attain to the first three. And David appointed him over his guard.

24 و َمِنَ الأبْطالِ الثَّلاثِينَ عَسائِيلُ أخا يُوآبَ، ألْحانانُ بنُ دودو مِنْ بَيتَ لَحْمَ،

Asahel the brother of Joab was one of the thirty; Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,

25 ش مّةُ الحَرُودِيُّ وَأليقا الحَرُودِيُّ

Shammah the Harodite, Elika the Harodite,

26 و َحالَصُ الفَلْطِيُّ وَعِيرا بْنُ عِقِّيشَ التُّقُوعِيٌّ،

Helez the Paltite, Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite,

27 و َأبيعازَرُ العناثوثِيَّ، وَمَبُونايُ الحُوشِيُّ،

Abiezer the Anathothite, Mebunnai the Hushathite,

28 و َصَلْمُونُ الأخُوخِيُّ، وَمَهرايُ النّطوفاتِيُّ،

Zalmon the Ahohite, Maharai the Netophathite,

29 و َخالَبُ بْنُ بَعْنةَ النَّطُوفاتِيُّ، وَإتّايُ بْنُ رِيبايَ مِنْ جَبْعَ بَنْيامِيْنَ

Heleb the son of Baanah (the Netophathite), Ittai the son of Ribai from Gibeah of the children of Benjamin,

30 و َبَنايا الفِرْعَتُونِيَّ، وَهدّايُ مِنْ أوْديَةِ جاعَشَ،

Benaiah a Pirathonite, Hiddai from the brooks of Gaash,

31 و َأبِيعَلْبُونَ العَرْبتيُّ وَعَزْمُوتُ البَرْحُومِيُّ،

Abi-Albon the Arbathite, Azmaveth the Barhumite,

32 و َأليَحبا الشَّعَلبونيَّ، وَأبناءُ ياشينَ، وَيُوناثانُ

Eliahba the Shaalbonite (of the sons of Jashen), Jonathan,

33 ب نُ شَمَّةَ الهراريُّ، وَأحِيامُ بنُ شارارَ الأراريُّ،

Shammah the Hararite, Ahiam the son of Sharar the Hararite,

34 و َأليفالطُ بنُ أحْسِبايَ المَعْكيُّ، وَألِيعامُ بنُ أخِيتُوفَلَ الجيلونيُّ،

Eliphelet the son of Ahasbai, the son of the Maachathite, Eliam the son of Ahithophel the Gilonite,

35 و حِصْرايُ الكرمَليُّ وَفَعْرايُ الأرْبِيُّ،

Hezrai the Carmelite, Paarai the Arbite,

36 و َيَجآلُ بنُ ناثْانَ مِنْ صَوبَةَ وَبانِيُ الجاديُّ،

Igal the son of Nathan of Zobah, Bani the Gadite,

37 و صالَقُ العمّونيُّ، ونَحْرايُ البَيئيروتِيُّ حامِلَ سِلاحِ يُوآبَ بْنِ صُرُوِيَّة،

Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Beerothite (armorbearer of Joab the son of Zeruiah),

38 و َعيرا اليترِيّ وَجاريبُ اليِثرِيُّ، وَأُورِيّا الحِثّيُّ.

Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the Ithrite,

39 و َكانَ مَجْمُوعُهُمْ سَبْعَةً وَثَلاثِينَ.

and Uriah the Hittite: thirty-seven in all.
