1 M oreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was:
David and the captains of the army set apart for the work some of the sons of Asaph, of Heman and of Jeduthun. They were to speak God’s Word while harps and timbrels were playing. These are the names of those who served in this way.
2 o f the sons of Asaph; Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph under the hands of Asaph, which prophesied according to the order of the king.
The sons of Asaph were: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah and Asharelah. They were led by Asaph, who spoke for God under the leading of the king.
3 O f Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the Lord.
The six sons of Jeduthun were: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah and Mattithiah. They were led by their father Jeduthun, who spoke God’s Word using the harp, giving thanks and praising the Lord.
4 O f Heman: the sons of Heman; Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamti-ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth:
The sons of Heman were: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, Romamtiezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir and Mahazioth.
5 a ll these were the sons of Heman the king’s seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.
All these were the sons of Heman the king’s man of God, to honor him by the Words of God. God gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.
6 A ll these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king’s order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.
All of them were led by their father to sing in the Lord’s house. They sang and played timbrels and harps, serving in the house of God. Asaph, Jeduthun and Heman were led by the king.
7 S o the number of them, with their brethren that were instructed in the songs of the Lord, even all that were cunning, was two hundred fourscore and eight.
The number of those and their brothers who were taught to sing to the Lord, all who were very good singers, was 288.
8 A nd they cast lots, ward against ward, as well the small as the great, the teacher as the scholar.
They drew names for their work, the young and old alike, also the teacher and the one who was taught.
9 N ow the first lot came forth for Asaph to Joseph: the second to Gedaliah, who with his brethren and sons were twelve:
These are how the names were drawn. First was Joseph the son of Asaph. The second was Gedaliah. Together with his brothers and sons, there were twelve.
10 t he third to Zaccur, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The third was Zaccur. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
11 t he fourth to Izri, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The fourth was Izri. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
12 t he fifth to Nethaniah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The fifth was Nethaniah. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
13 t he sixth to Bukkiah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The sixth was Bukkiah. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
14 t he seventh to Jesharelah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The seventh was Jesharelah. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
15 t he eighth to Jeshaiah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The eighth was Jeshaiah. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
16 t he ninth to Mattaniah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The ninth was Mattaniah. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
17 t he tenth to Shimei, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The tenth was Shimei. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
18 t he eleventh to Azareel, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The eleventh was Azarel. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
19 t he twelfth to Hashabiah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The twelfth was Hashabiah. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
20 t he thirteenth to Shubael, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The thirteenth was Shubael. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
21 t he fourteenth to Mattithiah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The fourteenth was Mattithiah. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
22 t he fifteenth to Jeremoth, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The fifteenth was Jeremoth. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
23 t he sixteenth to Hananiah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The sixteenth was Hananiah. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
24 t he seventeenth to Joshbekashah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The seventeenth was Joshbekashah. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
25 t he eighteenth to Hanani, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The eighteenth was Hanani. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
26 t he nineteenth to Mallothi, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The nineteenth was Mallothi. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
27 t he twentieth to Eliathah, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The twentieth was Eliathah. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
28 t he one and twentieth to Hothir, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The twenty-first was Hothir. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
29 t he two and twentieth to Giddalti, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The twenty-second was Giddalti. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
30 t he three and twentieth to Mahazioth, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve:
The twenty-third was Mahazioth. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
31 t he four and twentieth to Romamti-ezer, he, his sons, and his brethren, were twelve.
And the twenty-fourth was Romamti-ezer. With his sons and brothers there were twelve.
