1 A nd he said unto Moses, Come up unto the Lord, thou, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel; and worship ye afar off.

Then He said to Moses, “Come up to the Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab, Abihu and seventy of the leaders of Israel and worship from far away.

2 A nd Moses alone shall come near the Lord: but they shall not come nigh; neither shall the people go up with him.

But Moses alone may come near the Lord. The others should not come near and should not come up with him.”

3 A nd Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the Lord hath said will we do.

Moses came and told the people all the Lord said and all the Laws. All the people answered with one voice, saying, “We will do all that the Lord has spoken.”

4 A nd Moses wrote all the words of the Lord, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.

Moses wrote all the words of the Lord. He got up early the next morning and built an altar at the base of the mountain, with twelve pillars, one for each of the twelve families of Israel.

5 A nd he sent young men of the children of Israel, which offered burnt offerings, and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen unto the Lord.

Then he sent young men of Israel, who gave burnt gifts and killed young bulls as gifts of peace given in worship to the Lord.

6 A nd Moses took half of the blood, and put it in basons; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.

Moses took half of the blood and put it in pots. The other half of the blood he put upon the altar.

7 A nd he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the Lord hath said will we do, and be obedient.

Then he took the Book of the Agreement and read it for the people to hear. They said, “We will do all that the Lord has spoken. We will obey.”

8 A nd Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord hath made with you concerning all these words.

So Moses took the blood and put some on the people. He said, “See, the blood of the agreement, which the Lord has made with you in these words.”

9 T hen went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel:

Then Moses went up with Aaron, Nadab, Abihu and seventy of the leaders of Israel.

10 a nd they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness.

And they saw the God of Israel. The ground under His feet looked like sapphire stone, as clear as the sky itself.

11 A nd upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink.

He did not let His hand come against the leaders of Israel. But they saw God, and ate and drank. Moses on Mount Sinai

12 A nd the Lord said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them.

The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to Me on the mountain and stay there. I will give you the pieces of stone with the Law which I have written for you to teach the people.”

13 A nd Moses rose up, and his minister Joshua: and Moses went up into the mount of God.

Then Moses got up with his helper Joshua, and Moses went up on the mountain of God.

14 A nd he said unto the elders, Tarry ye here for us, until we come again unto you: and, behold, Aaron and Hur are with you: if any man have any matters to do, let him come unto them.

He said to the leaders, “Wait here until we return to you. See, Aaron and Hur are with you. Let whoever has a problem go to them.”

15 A nd Moses went up into the mount, and a cloud covered the mount.

Then Moses went up on the mountain, which was covered with a cloud.

16 A nd the glory of the Lord abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud.

The shining-greatness of the Lord rested on Mount Sinai. And the cloud covered it for six days. On the seventh day He called to Moses from the cloud.

17 A nd the sight of the glory of the Lord was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel.

To the people of Israel, the shining-greatness of the Lord looked like a fire that destroys on the mountain top.

18 A nd Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.

Moses went into the cloud as he went up on the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
