1 ¶ When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,
In the going out of Israel from Egypt, The house of Jacob from a strange people,
2 J udah was his holiness, and Israel his dominion.
Judah became His sanctuary, Israel his dominion.
3 T he sea saw it and fled; Jordan was driven back.
The sea hath seen, and fleeth, The Jordan turneth backward.
4 T he mountains skipped like rams and the little hills like lambs.
The mountains have skipped as rams, Heights as sons of a flock.
5 W hat came upon thee, O thou sea, that thou didst flee? And thou O Jordan, that thou wast driven back?
What -- to thee, O sea, that thou fleest? O Jordan, thou turnest back!
6 Y e mountains, why didst ye skip like rams and ye little hills, like lambs?
O mountains, ye skip as rams! O heights, as sons of a flock!
7 A t the presence of the Lord, the earth trembles, at the presence of the God of Jacob,
From before the Lord be afraid, O earth, From before the God of Jacob,
8 w ho turned the rock into a reservoir of water, the flint into a fountain of waters.
He is turning the rock to a pool of waters, The flint to a fountain of waters!
