1 ا لإجابَةُ الهادِئَةُ تُبعِدُ الغَضَبَ، أمّا الكَلِمَةُ القاسِيَةُ فَتُشعِلُ الغَيظَ.

A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

2 ل ِسانُ الحُكَماءِ يُعطينا مَعْرِفَةً نافِعَةً، وَالحَمْقَى يَفِيضُونَ حَماقَةً.

The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

3 ا للهُ يُراقِبُ كُلَّ مَكانٍ، وَيَرَى الشِّرِّيرَ وَالصّالِحَ.

The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

4 ا لكلامُ اللطِيفُ يُشْبِهُ شَجَرةَ حَياةٍ، أمّا الكَلامُ المُلتَوِي فَيَسْحَقُ الرُّوحَ.

A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

5 ا لأحْمَقُ يَحتَقِرُ تَعلِيمَ أبِيهِ، أمّا الَّذِي يَقْبَلُ التَّوْبِيخَ فَيُصبِحُ ذَكِيّاً.

A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.

6 ب َيتُ الصِّدِّيقِ فِيهِ كُنُوزٌ عَظِيمَةٌ، وَأمّا مُمتَلَكاتُ الشِّرِّيرِ وَما يَكْسَبُهُ فَتَجلِبُ لَهُ المَشاكِلَ.

In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.

7 ف َمُ الحَكِيمِ يَنشُرُ المَعرِفَةَ، أمّا أفْكارُ الأغبِياءِ فَلَيسَتْ كَذَلِكَ.

The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.

8 ا للهُ يَكرَهُ ذَبِيحَةَ الأشرارِ، أمّا صَلاةُ البارِّ فَتُفرِحُ اللهَ.

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

9 ا للهُ يَكرَهُ طَرِيقَ الأشرارِ، وَيُحِبُّ السّاعِينَ إلَى البِرِّ.

The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.

10 ا لعِقابُ يَنتَظِرُ مَنْ يَترُكُ الاستِقامَةَ، وَمَنْ يَكرَهُ التَّوْبِيخَ يَمُوتُ.

Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.

11 ا لهاوِيَةُ وَمَوْضِعُ الهَلاكِ مَكْشُوفانِ أمامَ اللهِ ، فَكَمْ بالأولَى أفكارُ البَشَرِ.

Hell and destruction are before the Lord: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?

12 ا لمُستَهزِئُ لا يُحِبُّ أنْ يُوَبِّخَهُ أحَدٌ، وَهُوَ لا يَلجأُ إلَى الحُكَماءِ.

A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.

13 ا لقَلبُ الفَرحانُ يُبهِجُ الوَجهَ، وَلَكِنْ عِندَما يَحزَنُ القَلبُ تَنسَحِقُ الرُّوحُ.

A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

14 ا لحَكِيمُ يَبحَثُ عَنِ المَعرِفَةِ، أمّا فَمُ الحَمقَى فَيَتَغَذَّى عَلَى الغَباءِ.

The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.

15 ك ُلُّ أيامِ الفَقِيرِ صَعبَةٌ، وَلَكِنَّ القَلبَ الفَرِحَ وَلِيمَةٌ دائِمَةٌ.

All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.

16 ا لقَلِيلُ مَعَ مَخافَةِ اللهِ أفضَلُ مِنْ كُنُوزٍ عَظِيمَةٍ مَعَها قَلَقٌ وَاضْطِرابٌ.

Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.

17 ط َبَقٌ مِنَ الخَضراواتِ وَمَعْهُ مَحَبَّةٌ أفضَلُ مِنْ لَحمٍ مُسَمَّنٍ وَمَعْهُ كَراهِيَّةٌ.

Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.

18 س َرِيعُ الغَضَبِ يُشعِلُ الشِّجارَ، أمّا بَطِيءُ الغَضَبِ فَيُهَدِّئُ النِّزاعَ.

A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

19 ط َرِيقُ الكَسْلانِ يُشْبِهُ السِّياجَ الشّائِكَ، أمّا طَرِيقُ البارِّ فَهُوَ مُمَهَّدٌ.

The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.

20 ا لابنُ الحَكِيمُ يُفَرِّحُ أباهُ، أمّا الإنسانُ الأحْمَقُ فَيَحتَقِرُ أُمَّهُ.

A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.

21 ا لأحْمَقُ يَفرَحُ بِأعمالِ الغَباءِ، أمّا الفَهِيمُ فَيَفعَلُ ما هُوَ صَحِيحٌ.

Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.

22 ب ِدُونِ مَشُورَةٍ يَفشَلُ التَّخطِيطُ، وَالنَّجاحُ بِكَثرَةِ المُشِيرِينَ.

Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

23 ي َفْرَحُ الناسُ حِينَ يُعطُونَ جَواباً جَيِّداً، وَما أجْمَلَ الكَلِمَةَ فِي وَقْتِها!

A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

24 ط َرِيقُ المُتُعَقِّلِ يَقُودُهُ إلَى الحَياةِ، وَيُبعِدُهُ عَنْ طَرِيقِ المَوتِ.

The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

25 ا للهُ يَهدِمُ بَيتَ المُتُكَبِّرِ، وَلَكِنَّهُ يَحمِي الأرمَلَةَ.

The Lord will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.

26 ا للهُ يَكرَهُ الأفكارَ الشِّرِّيرَةَ، أمّا الكَلامُ اللَّطِيفُ فَيُحِبُّهُ.

The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.

27 ا لَّذِّي يَطمَعُ بِكَثْرَةِ الرِّبحِ يُخَرِّبُ بَيتَهُ، وَالَّذِي يَكرَهُ الرِّشوَةَ سَيَحيا.

He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.

28 ع َقلُ البارِّ يُفَكِّرُ بِالإجابَةِ قَبلَ النُّطْقِ بِها، أمّا فَمُ الشِّرِّيرِ فَيَفِيضُ بِالشَّرِّ.

The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

29 ا للهُ لا يَستَمِعُ إلَى الشِّرِّيرِ، وَلَكِنَّهُ يُصغِي إلَى صَلاةِ البارِّ.

The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

30 ا لابتِسامَةُ تُفرِحُ القَلبَ، وَالأخبارُ الطَّيِّبَةُ تُقَوِّي الجَسَدَ.

The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.

31 م َنْ يَسْتَمِعْ للتَوْبيخِ المُؤَدِّي إلَى الحَياةِ، يَسْكُنْ بَينَ الحُكَماءِ.

The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.

32 م َنْ يَتَجاهَلُ التَّأدِيبَ يَكرَهُ حَياتَهُ، أمّا الَّذِي يُصغِي إلَى التَّوْبِيخِ فَيَنالُ فَهماً.

He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.

33 م َخافَةُ اللهِ تُعلِّمُ الإنْسانَ الحِكْمَةَ، وَالتَّواضُعُ يَأتِي قَبلَ الكَرامَةِ.

The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
