1 A nd in the day of the Pentecost being fulfilled, they were all with one accord at the same place,

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 a nd there came suddenly out of the heaven a sound as of a bearing violent breath, and it filled all the house where they were sitting,

And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.

3 a nd there appeared to them divided tongues, as it were of fire; it sat also upon each one of them,

Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.

4 a nd they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, according as the Spirit was giving them to declare.

5 A nd there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation of those under the heaven,

6 a nd the rumour of this having come, the multitude came together, and was confounded, because they were each one hearing them speaking in his proper dialect,

7 a nd they were all amazed, and did wonder, saying one unto another, `Lo, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?

Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans?

8 a nd how do we hear, each in our proper dialect, in which we were born?

And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born?

9 P arthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and those dwelling in Mesopotamia, in Judea also, and Cappadocia, Pontus, and Asia,

Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,

10 P hrygia also, and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Libya, that along Cyrene, and the strangers of Rome, both Jews and proselytes,

Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,

11 C retes and Arabians, we did hear them speaking in our tongues the great things of God.'

Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.”

12 A nd they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one unto another, `What would this wish to be?'

So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?”

13 a nd others mocking said, -- `They are full of sweet wine;'

14 a nd Peter having stood up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and declared to them, `Men, Jews! and all those dwelling in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and harken to my sayings,

But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words.

15 f or these are not drunken, as ye take it up, for it is the third hour of the day.

For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.

16 ` But this is that which hath been spoken through the prophet Joel:

But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 A nd it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;

‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.

18 a nd also upon My men-servants, and upon My maid-servants, in those days, I will pour out of My Spirit, and they shall prophesy;

And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.

19 a nd I will give wonders in the heaven above, and signs upon the earth beneath -- blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke,

I will show wonders in heaven above And signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke.

20 t he sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the coming of the day of the Lord -- the great and illustrious;

The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the L ord.

21 a nd it shall be, every one -- whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, he shall be saved.

And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the L ord Shall be saved.’

22 ` Men, Israelites! hear these words, Jesus the Nazarene, a man approved of God among you by mighty works, and wonders, and signs, that God did through him in the midst of you, according as also ye yourselves have known;

“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know—

23 t his one, by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, being given out, having taken by lawless hands, having crucified -- ye did slay;

Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death;

24 w hom God did raise up, having loosed the pains of the death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it,

whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it.

25 f or David saith in regard to him: I foresaw the Lord always before me -- because He is on my right hand -- that I may not be moved;

For David says concerning Him: ‘I foresaw the L ord always before my face, For He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken.

26 b ecause of this was my heart cheered, and my tongue was glad, and yet -- my flesh also shall rest on hope,

Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad; Moreover my flesh also will rest in hope.

27 b ecause Thou wilt not leave my soul to hades, nor wilt Thou give Thy Kind One to see corruption;

For You will not leave my soul in Hades, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.

28 T hou didst make known to me ways of life, Thou shalt fill me with joy with Thy countenance.

You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of joy in Your presence.’

29 ` Men, brethren! it is permitted to speak with freedom unto you concerning the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is among us unto this day;

“Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.

30 a prophet, therefore, being, and knowing that with an oath God did swear to him, out of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, to raise up the Christ, to sit upon his throne,

Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne,

31 h aving foreseen, he did speak concerning the rising again of the Christ, that his soul was not left to hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.

he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.

32 ` This Jesus did God raise up, of which we are all witnesses;

This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses.

33 a t the right hand then of God having been exalted -- also the promise of the Holy Spirit having received from the Father -- he was shedding forth this, which now ye see and hear;

Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.

34 f or David did not go up to the heavens, and he saith himself: The Lord saith to my lord, Sit thou at my right hand,

“For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself: ‘The L ord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand,

35 t ill I make thy foes thy footstool;

Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”’

36 a ssuredly, therefore, let all the house of Israel know, that both Lord and Christ did God make him -- this Jesus whom ye did crucify.'

“Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”

37 A nd having heard, they were pricked to the heart; they say also to Peter, and to the rest of the apostles, `What shall we do, men, brethren?'

Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”

38 a nd Peter said unto them, `Reform, and be baptized each of you on the name of Jesus Christ, to remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit,

Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

39 f or to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all those afar off, as many as the Lord our God shall call.'

For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” A Vital Church Grows

40 A lso with many more other words he was testifying and exhorting, saying, `Be saved from this perverse generation;'

And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.”

41 t hen those, indeed, who did gladly receive his word were baptized, and there were added on that day, as it were, three thousand souls,

Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.

42 a nd they were continuing stedfastly in the teaching of the apostles, and the fellowship, and the breaking of the bread, and the prayers.

And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

43 A nd fear came on every soul, many wonders also and signs were being done through the apostles,

Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.

44 a nd all those believing were at the same place, and had all things common,

Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common,

45 a nd the possessions and the goods they were selling, and were parting them to all, according as any one had need.

and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.

46 D aily also continuing with one accord in the temple, breaking also at every house bread, they were partaking of food in gladness and simplicity of heart,

So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart,

47 p raising God, and having favour with all the people, and the Lord was adding those being saved every day to the assembly.

praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.
