1 S i Jehová no edificare la casa, En vano trabajan los que la edifican; Si Jehová no guardare la ciudad, En vano vela la guardia.

Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

2 P or demás es que os levantéis de madrugada, y vayáis tarde a reposar, Y que comáis pan de dolores; Pues que a su amado dará Dios el sueño.

It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

3 H e aquí, herencia de Jehová son los hijos; Cosa de estima el fruto del vientre.

Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

4 C omo saetas en mano del valiente, Así son los hijos habidos en la juventud.

As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

5 B ienaventurado el hombre que llenó su aljaba de ellos; No será avergonzado Cuando hablare con los enemigos en la puerta.

Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
