1 T hen a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a branch from his roots will bear fruit.

And there shall come forth a Shoot out of the stock of Jesse, and a Branch out of his roots shall grow and bear fruit.

2 T he Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him—the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the reverential and obedient fear of the Lord—

3 A nd He will delight in the fear of the Lord, And He will not judge by what His eyes see, Nor make a decision by what His ears hear;

And shall make Him of quick understanding, and His delight shall be in the reverential and obedient fear of the Lord. And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, neither decide by the hearing of His ears;

4 B ut with righteousness He will judge the poor, And decide with fairness for the afflicted of the earth; And He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked.

But with righteousness and justice shall He judge the poor and decide with fairness for the meek, the poor, and the downtrodden of the earth; and He shall smite the earth and the oppressor with the rod of His mouth, and with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.

5 A lso righteousness will be the belt about His loins, And faithfulness the belt about His waist.

And righteousness shall be the girdle of His waist and faithfulness the girdle of His loins.

6 A nd the wolf will dwell with the lamb, And the leopard will lie down with the young goat, And the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little boy will lead them.

And the wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid, and the calf and the young lion and the fatted domestic animal together; and a little child shall lead them.

7 A lso the cow and the bear will graze, Their young will lie down together, And the lion will eat straw like the ox.

And the cow and the bear shall feed side by side, their young shall lie down together, and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

8 T he nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra, And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den.

And the sucking child shall play over the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder’s den.

9 T hey will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord As the waters cover the sea.

They shall not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.

10 T hen in that day The nations will resort to the root of Jesse, Who will stand as a signal for the peoples; And His resting place will be glorious. The Restored Remnant

And it shall be in that day that the Root of Jesse shall stand as a signal for the peoples; of Him shall the nations inquire and seek knowledge, and His dwelling shall be glory!

11 T hen it will happen on that day that the Lord Will again recover the second time with His hand The remnant of His people, who will remain, From Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, And from the islands of the sea.

And in that day the Lord shall again lift up His hand a second time to recover (acquire and deliver) the remnant of His people which is left, from Assyria, from Lower Egypt, from Pathros, from Ethiopia, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the countries bordering on the Sea.

12 A nd He will lift up a standard for the nations And assemble the banished ones of Israel, And will gather the dispersed of Judah From the four corners of the earth.

And He will raise up a signal for the nations and will assemble the outcasts of Israel and will gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

13 T hen the jealousy of Ephraim will depart, And those who harass Judah will be cut off; Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah, And Judah will not harass Ephraim.

The envy and jealousy of Ephraim also shall depart, and they who vex and harass Judah from outside or inside shall be cut off; Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and Judah shall not vex and harass Ephraim.

14 T hey will swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines on the west; Together they will plunder the sons of the east; They will possess Edom and Moab, And the sons of Ammon will be subject to them.

But will swoop down upon the shoulders of the Philistines’ toward the west; together they will strip the people on the east. They will lay their hands upon Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites will obey them.

15 A nd the Lord will utterly destroy The tongue of the Sea of Egypt; And He will wave His hand over the River With His scorching wind; And He will strike it into seven streams And make men walk over dry-shod.

And the Lord will utterly destroy (doom and dry up) the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and with His scorching wind He will wave His hand over the river and will smite it into seven channels and will cause men to cross over dry-shod.

16 A nd there will be a highway from Assyria For the remnant of His people who will be left, Just as there was for Israel In the day that they came up out of the land of Egypt.

And there shall be a highway from Assyria for the remnant left of His people, as there was for Israel when they came up out of the land of Egypt.
