John 9 ~ John 9

1 A nd as he passed on, he saw a man blind from birth.

And as he passed by, he saw a man blind from his birth.

2 A nd his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this or his parents, that he should be born blind?

And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind?

3 J esus answered, Neither has this sinned nor his parents, but that the works of God should be manifested in him.

Jesus answered, Neither did this man sin, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

4 I must work the works of him that has sent me while it is day. night is coming, when no one can work.

We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

5 A s long as I am in the world, I am light of the world.

When I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

6 H aving said these things, he spat on the ground and made mud of the spittle, and put the mud, as ointment, on his eyes.

When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and anointed his eyes with the clay,

7 A nd he said to him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, which is interpreted, Sent. He went therefore and washed, and came seeing.

and said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent). He went away therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

8 T he neighbours therefore, and those who used to see him before, that he was a beggar, said, Is not this he that was sitting and begging?

The neighbors therefore, and they that saw him aforetime, that he was a beggar, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?

9 S ome said, It is he; others said, No, but he is like him: he said, It is I.

Others said, It is he: others said, No, but he is like him. He said, I am he.

10 T hey said therefore to him, How have thine eyes been opened?

They said therefore unto him, How then were thine eyes opened?

11 H e answered, A man called Jesus made mud and anointed mine eyes, and said to me, Go to Siloam and wash: and having gone and washed, I saw.

He answered, The man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to Siloam, and wash: so I went away and washed, and I received sight.

12 T hey said therefore to him, Where is he? He says, I do not know.

And they said unto him, Where is he? He saith, I know not.

13 T hey bring him who was before blind to the Pharisees.

They bring to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.

14 N ow it was sabbath when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.

Now it was the sabbath on the day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.

15 T he Pharisees therefore also again asked him how he received his sight. And he said to them, He put mud upon mine eyes, and I washed, and I see.

Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. And he said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and I see.

16 S ome of the Pharisees therefore said, This man is not of God, for he does not keep the sabbath. Others said, How can a sinful man perform such signs? And there was a division among them.

Some therefore of the Pharisees said, This man is not from God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. But others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such signs? And there was division among them.

17 T hey say therefore again to the blind, What dost thou say of him, that he has opened thine eyes? And he said, He is a prophet.

They say therefore unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, in that he opened thine eyes? And he said, He is a prophet.

18 T he Jews therefore did not believe concerning him that he was blind and had received sight, until they had called the parents of him that had received sight.

The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight,

19 A nd they asked them saying, This is your son, of whom ye say that he was born blind: how then does he now see?

and asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? How then doth he now see?

20 H is parents answered and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;

His parents answered and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:

21 b ut how he now sees we do not know, or who has opened his eyes we do not know. He is of age: ask him; he will speak concerning himself.

but how he now seeth, we know not; or who opened his eyes, we know not: ask him; he is of age; he shall speak for himself.

22 H is parents said these things because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had already agreed that if any one confessed him Christ, he should be excommunicated from the synagogue.

These things said his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man should confess him to be Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

23 O n this account his parents said, He is of age: ask him.

Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.

24 T hey called therefore a second time the man who had been blind, and said to him, Give glory to God: we know that this man is sinful.

So they called a second time the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give glory to God: we know that this man is a sinner.

25 H e answered therefore, If he is sinful I know not. One thing I know, that, being blind, now I see.

He therefore answered, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

26 A nd they said to him again, What did he do to thee? how opened he thine eyes?

They said therefore unto him, What did he to thee? How opened he thine eyes?

27 H e answered them, I told you already and ye did not hear: why do ye desire to hear again? do ye also wish to become his disciples?

He answered them, I told you even now, and ye did not hear; wherefore would ye hear it again? would ye also become his disciples?

28 T hey railed at him, and said, Thou art his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.

And they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are disciples of Moses.

29 W e know that God spoke to Moses; but this, we know not whence he is.

We know that God hath spoken unto Moses: but as for this man, we know not whence he is.

30 T he man answered and said to them, Now in this is a wonderful thing, that ye do not know whence he is, and he has opened mine eyes.

The man answered and said unto them, Why, herein is the marvel, that ye know not whence he is, and yet he opened mine eyes.

31 w e know that God does not hear sinners; but if any one be God-fearing and do his will, him he hears.

We know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and do his will, him he heareth.

32 S ince time was, it has not been heard that any one opened the eyes of one born blind.

Since the world began it was never heard that any one opened the eyes of a man born blind.

33 I f this were not of God he would be able to do nothing.

If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.

34 T hey answered and said to him, Thou hast been wholly born in sins, and thou teachest us? And they cast him out.

They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.

35 J esus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him, he said to him, Thou, dost thou believe on the Son of God?

Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and finding him, he said, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?

36 H e answered and said, And who is he, Lord, that I may believe on him?

He answered and said, And who is he, Lord, that I may believe on him?

37 A nd Jesus said to him, Thou hast both seen him, and he that speaks with thee is he.

Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and he it is that speaketh with thee.

38 A nd he said, I believe, Lord: and he did him homage.

And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.

39 A nd Jesus said, For judgment am I come into this world, that they which see not may see, and they which see may become blind.

And Jesus said, For judgment came I into this world, that they that see not may see; and that they that see may become blind.

40 A nd of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and they said to him, Are we blind also?

Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said unto him, Are we also blind?

41 J esus said to them, If ye were blind ye would not have sin; but now ye say, We see, your sin remains.

Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye would have no sin: but now ye say, We see: your sin remaineth.
