1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the compassions of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, your intelligent service.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service.

2 A nd be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of mind, that ye may prove what the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

And be not fashioned according to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, and ye may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

3 F or I say, through the grace which has been given to me, to every one that is among you, not to have high thoughts above what he should think; but to think so as to be wise, as God has dealt to each a measure of faith.

For I say, through the grace that was given me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think as to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to each man a measure of faith.

4 F or, as in one body we have many members, but all the members have not the same office;

For even as we have many members in one body, and all the members have not the same office:

5 t hus we, many, are one body in Christ, and each one members one of the other.

so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and severally members one of another.

6 B ut having different gifts, according to the grace which has been given to us, whether prophecy, according to the proportion of faith;

And having gifts differing according to the grace that was given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of our faith;

7 o r service, in service; or he that teaches, in teaching;

or ministry, let us give ourselves to our ministry; or he that teacheth, to his teaching;

8 o r he that exhorts, in exhortation; he that gives, in simplicity; he that leads, with diligence; he that shews mercy, with cheerfulness.

or he that exhorteth, to his exhorting: he that giveth, let him do it with liberality; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that showeth mercy, with cheerfulness.

9 L et love be unfeigned; abhorring evil; cleaving to good:

Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

10 a s to brotherly love, kindly affectioned towards one another: as to honour, each taking the lead in paying it to the other:

In love of the brethren be tenderly affectioned one to another; in honor preferring one another;

11 a s to diligent zealousness, not slothful; in spirit fervent; serving the Lord.

in diligence not slothful; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;

12 A s regards hope, rejoicing: as regards tribulation, enduring: as regards prayer, persevering:

rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing stedfastly in prayer;

13 d istributing to the necessities of the saints; given to hospitality.

communicating to the necessities of the saints; given to hospitality.

14 B less them that persecute you; bless, and curse not.

Bless them that persecute you; bless, and curse not.

15 R ejoice with those that rejoice, weep with those that weep.

Rejoice with them that rejoice; weep with them that weep.

16 H ave the same respect one for another, not minding high things, but going along with the lowly: be not wise in your own eyes:

Be of the same mind one toward another. Set not your mind on high things, but condescend to things that are lowly. Be not wise in your own conceits.

17 r ecompensing to no one evil for evil: providing things honest before all men:

Render to no man evil for evil. Take thought for things honorable in the sight of all men.

18 i f possible, as far as depends on you, living in peace with all men;

If it be possible, as much as in you lieth, be at peace with all men.

19 n ot avenging yourselves, beloved, but give place to wrath; for it is written, Vengeance to me, I will recompense, saith the Lord.

Avenge not yourselves, beloved, but give place unto the wrath of God: for it is written, Vengeance belongeth unto me; I will recompense, saith the Lord.

20 I f therefore thine enemy should hunger, feed him; if he should thirst, give him drink; for, so doing, thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head.

But if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him to drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head.

21 B e not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
