1 N ow when they drew near Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, He sent two of His disciples;
And when they come nigh to Jerusalem, to Bethphage, and Bethany, unto the mount of the Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples,
2 a nd He said to them, “Go into the village opposite you; and as soon as you have entered it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has sat. Loose it and bring it.
and saith to them, `Go away to the village that is over-against you, and immediately, entering into it, ye shall find a colt tied, on which no one of men hath sat, having loosed it, bring:
3 A nd if anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it,’ and immediately he will send it here.”
and if any one may say to you, Why do ye this? say ye that the lord hath need of it, and immediately he will send it hither.'
4 S o they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door outside on the street, and they loosed it.
And they went away, and found the colt tied at the door without, by the two ways, and they loose it,
5 B ut some of those who stood there said to them, “What are you doing, loosing the colt?”
and certain of those standing there said to them, `What do ye -- loosing the colt?'
6 A nd they spoke to them just as Jesus had commanded. So they let them go.
and they said to them as Jesus commanded, and they suffered them.
7 T hen they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their clothes on it, and He sat on it.
And they brought the colt unto Jesus, and did cast upon it their garments, and he sat upon it,
8 A nd many spread their clothes on the road, and others cut down leafy branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
and many did spread their garments in the way, and others were cutting down branches from the trees, and were strewing in the way.
9 T hen those who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the L ord!’
And those going before and those following were crying out, saying, `Hosanna! blessed he who is coming in the name of the Lord;
10 B lessed is the kingdom of our father David That comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”
blessed is the coming reign, in the name of the Lord, of our father David; Hosanna in the highest.'
11 A nd Jesus went into Jerusalem and into the temple. So when He had looked around at all things, as the hour was already late, He went out to Bethany with the twelve. The Fig Tree Withered
And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple, and having looked round on all things, it being now evening, he went forth to Bethany with the twelve.
12 N ow the next day, when they had come out from Bethany, He was hungry.
And on the morrow, they having come forth from Bethany, he hungered,
13 A nd seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs.
and having seen a fig-tree afar off having leaves, he came, if perhaps he shall find anything in it, and having come to it, he found nothing except leaves, for it was not a time of figs,
14 I n response Jesus said to it, “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.” And His disciples heard it. Jesus Cleanses the Temple
and Jesus answering said to it, `No more from thee -- to the age -- may any eat fruit;' and his disciples were hearing.
15 S o they came to Jerusalem. Then Jesus went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves.
And they come to Jerusalem, and Jesus having gone into the temple, began to cast forth those selling and buying in the temple, and the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those selling the doves, he overthrew,
16 A nd He would not allow anyone to carry wares through the temple.
and he did not suffer that any might bear a vessel through the temple,
17 T hen He taught, saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ”
and he was teaching, saying to them, `Hath it not been written -- My house a house of prayer shall be called for all the nations, and ye did make it a den of robbers?'
18 A nd the scribes and chief priests heard it and sought how they might destroy Him; for they feared Him, because all the people were astonished at His teaching.
And the scribes and the chief priests heard, and they were seeking how they shall destroy him, for they were afraid of him, because all the multitude was astonished at his teaching;
19 W hen evening had come, He went out of the city. The Lesson of the Withered Fig Tree
and when evening came, he was going forth without the city.
20 N ow in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.
And in the morning, passing by, they saw the fig-tree having been dried up from the roots,
21 A nd Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.”
and Peter having remembered saith to him, `Rabbi, lo, the fig-tree that thou didst curse is dried up.'
22 S o Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God.
And Jesus answering saith to them, `Have faith of God;
23 F or assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.
for verily I say to you, that whoever may say to this mount, Be taken up, and be cast into the sea, and may not doubt in his heart, but may believe that the things that he saith do come to pass, it shall be to him whatever he may say.
24 T herefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. Forgiveness and Prayer
Because of this I say to you, all whatever -- praying -- ye do ask, believe that ye receive, and it shall be to you.
25 “ And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.
`And whenever ye may stand praying, forgive, if ye have anything against any one, that your Father also who is in the heavens may forgive you your trespasses;
26 B ut if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.” Jesus’ Authority Questioned
and, if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in the heavens forgive your trespasses.'
27 T hen they came again to Jerusalem. And as He was walking in the temple, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders came to Him.
And they come again to Jerusalem, and in the temple, as he is walking, there come unto him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders,
28 A nd they said to Him, “By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority to do these things?”
and they say to him, `By what authority dost thou these things? and who gave thee this authority that these things thou mayest do?'
29 B ut Jesus answered and said to them, “I also will ask you one question; then answer Me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things:
And Jesus answering said to them, `I will question you -- I also -- one word; and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things;
30 T he baptism of John—was it from heaven or from men? Answer Me.”
the baptism of John -- from heaven was it? or from men? answer me.'
31 A nd they reasoned among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’
And they were reasoning with themselves, saying, `If we may say, From heaven, he will say, Wherefore, then, did ye not believe him?
32 B ut if we say, ‘From men’”—they feared the people, for all counted John to have been a prophet indeed.
But if we may say, From men,' -- they were fearing the people, for all were holding John that he was indeed a prophet;
33 S o they answered and said to Jesus, “We do not know.” And Jesus answered and said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”
and answering they say to Jesus, `We have not known;' and Jesus answering saith to them, `Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.'
