1 B ut I make known to you, brethren, the glad tidings which I announced to you, which also ye received, in which also ye stand,

Now I declare to you, brothers, the Good News which I preached to you, which also you received, in which you also stand,

2 b y which also ye are saved, (if ye hold fast the word which I announced to you as the glad tidings,) unless indeed ye have believed in vain.

by which also you are saved, if you hold firmly the word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.

3 F or I delivered to you, in the first place, what also I had received, that Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures;

For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

4 a nd that he was buried; and that he was raised the third day, according to the scriptures;

that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

5 a nd that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.

6 T hen he appeared to above five hundred brethren at once, of whom the most remain until now, but some also have fallen asleep.

8 a nd last of all, as to an abortion, he appeared to me also.

9 F or I am the least of the apostles, who am not fit to be called apostle, because I have persecuted the assembly of God.

10 B ut by God's grace I am what I am; and his grace, which towards me, has not been vain; but I have laboured more abundantly than they all, but not I, but the grace of God which with me.

But by the grace of God I am what I am. His grace which was given to me was not futile, but I worked more than all of them; yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

11 W hether, therefore, I or they, thus we preach, and thus ye have believed.

Whether then it is I or they, so we preach, and so you believed.

12 N ow if Christ is preached that he is raised from among dead, how say some among you that there is not a resurrection of dead?

Now if Christ is preached, that he has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?

13 B ut if there is not a resurrection of dead, neither is Christ raised:

But if there is no resurrection of the dead, neither has Christ been raised.

14 b ut if Christ is not raised, then, indeed, vain also our preaching, and vain also your faith.

If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain, and your faith also is in vain.

15 A nd we are found also false witnesses of God; for we have witnessed concerning God that he raised the Christ, whom he has not raised if indeed dead are not raised.

Yes, we are found false witnesses of God, because we testified about God that he raised up Christ, whom he didn’t raise up, if it is so that the dead are not raised.

16 F or if dead are not raised, neither is Christ raised;

For if the dead aren’t raised, neither has Christ been raised.

17 b ut if Christ be not raised, your faith vain; ye are yet in your sins.

If Christ has not been raised, your faith is vain; you are still in your sins.

18 T hen indeed also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.

Then they also who are fallen asleep in Christ have perished.

19 I f in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are most miserable of all men.

If we have only hoped in Christ in this life, we are of all men most pitiable.

20 ( But now Christ is raised from among dead, first-fruits of those fallen asleep.

But now Christ has been raised from the dead. He became the first fruits of those who are asleep.

21 F or since by man death, by man also resurrection of dead.

For since death came by man, the resurrection of the dead also came by man.

22 F or as in the Adam all die, thus also in the Christ all shall be made alive.

For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.

23 B ut each in his own rank: first-fruits, Christ; then those that are the Christ's at his coming.

But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then those who are Christ’s, at his coming.

24 T hen the end, when he gives up the kingdom to him God and Father; when he shall have annulled all rule and all authority and power.

Then the end comes, when he will deliver up the Kingdom to God, even the Father; when he will have abolished all rule and all authority and power.

25 F or he must reign until he put all enemies under his feet.

For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

26 l ast enemy is annulled death.

The last enemy that will be abolished is death.

27 F or he has put all things in subjection under his feet. But when he says that all things are put in subjection, evident that except him who put all things in subjection to him.

For, “He put all things in subjection under his feet.” But when he says, “All things are put in subjection”, it is evident that he is excepted who subjected all things to him.

28 B ut when all things shall have been brought into subjection to him, then the Son also himself shall be placed in subjection to him who put all things in subjection to him, that God may be all in all.)

When all things have been subjected to him, then the Son will also himself be subjected to him who subjected all things to him, that God may be all in all.

29 S ince what shall the baptised for the dead do if dead rise not at all? why also are they baptised for them?

Or else what will they do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead aren’t raised at all, why then are they baptized for the dead?

30 W hy do we also endanger ourselves every hour?

Why do we also stand in jeopardy every hour?

31 D aily I die, by your boasting which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

32 I f, after the manner of man, I have fought with beasts in Ephesus, what is the profit to me if dead do not rise? let us eat and drink; for to-morrow we die.

If I fought with animals at Ephesus for human purposes, what does it profit me? If the dead are not raised, then “let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”

33 B e not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

Don’t be deceived! “Evil companionships corrupt good morals.”

34 A wake up righteously, and sin not; for some are ignorant of God: I speak to you as a matter of shame.

Wake up righteously, and don’t sin, for some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.

35 B ut some one will say, How are the dead raised? and with what body do they come?

But someone will say, “How are the dead raised?” and, “With what kind of body do they come?”

36 F ool; what thou sowest is not quickened unless it die.

You foolish one, that which you yourself sow is not made alive unless it dies.

37 A nd what thou sowest, thou sowest not the body that shall be, but a bare grain: it may be of wheat, or some one of the rest:

That which you sow, you don’t sow the body that will be, but a bare grain, maybe of wheat, or of some other kind.

38 a nd God gives to it a body as he has pleased, and to each of the seeds its own body.

But God gives it a body even as it pleased him, and to each seed a body of its own.

39 E very flesh not the same flesh, but one of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another of birds, and another of fishes.

All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one flesh of men, another flesh of animals, another of fish, and another of birds.

40 A nd heavenly bodies, and earthly bodies: but different is the glory of the heavenly, different that of the earthly:

There are also celestial bodies, and terrestrial bodies; but the glory of the celestial differs from that of the terrestrial.

41 o ne sun's glory, and another moon's glory, and another stars' glory; for star differs from star in glory.

There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differs from another star in glory.

42 T hus also the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruptibility.

So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown perishable; it is raised imperishable.

43 I t is sown in dishonour, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.

It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power.

44 I t is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body: if there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual.

It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body and there is also a spiritual body.

45 T hus also it is written, The first man Adam became a living soul; the last Adam a quickening spirit.

So also it is written, “The first man, Adam, became a living soul.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

46 B ut that which is spiritual not first, but that which is natural, then that which is spiritual:

However that which is spiritual isn’t first, but that which is natural, then that which is spiritual.

47 t he first man out of earth, made of dust; the second man, out of heaven.

The first man is of the earth, made of dust. The second man is the Lord from heaven.

48 S uch as he made of dust, such also those made of dust; and such as the heavenly, such also the heavenly.

As is the one made of dust, such are those who are also made of dust; and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.

49 A nd as we have borne the image of the made of dust, we shall bear also the image of the heavenly.

As we have borne the image of those made of dust, let’s also bear the image of the heavenly.

50 B ut this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit God's kingdom, nor does corruption inherit incorruptibility.

Now I say this, brothers, that flesh and blood can’t inherit God’s Kingdom; neither does the perishable inherit imperishable.

51 B ehold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all fall asleep, but we shall all be changed,

Behold, I tell you a mystery. We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed,

52 i n an instant, in twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed.

53 F or this corruptible must needs put on incorruptibility, and this mortal put on immortality.

For this perishable body must become imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.

54 B ut when this corruptible shall have put on incorruptibility, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall come to pass the word written: Death has been swallowed up in victory.

But when this perishable body will have become imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then what is written will happen: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

55 W here, O death, thy sting? where, O death, thy victory?

“Death, where is your sting? Hades, where is your victory?”

56 N ow the sting of death sin, and the power of sin the law;

The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

57 b ut thanks to God, who gives us the victory by our Lord Jesus Christ.

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 S o then, my beloved brethren, be firm, immovable, abounding always in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in Lord.

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
