1 T hen Bildad the Shuhite answered,
Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,
2 H ow long will you lay snares for words and have to hunt for your argument? Do some clear thinking, and then we will reply.
How long will ye hunt for words? Consider, and afterwards we will speak.
3 W hy are we counted as beasts ? Why are we unclean in your sight?
Wherefore are we counted as beasts, And are become unclean in your sight?
4 Y ou who tear yourself in your anger, shall the earth be forsaken for you, or the rock be removed out of its place?
Thou that tearest thyself in thine anger, Shall the earth be forsaken for thee? Or shall the rock be removed out of its place?
5 Y es, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the flame of his fire shall not shine.
Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, And the spark of his fire shall not shine.
6 T he light shall be dark in his dwelling, and his lamp beside him shall be put out.
The light shall be dark in his tent, And his lamp above him shall be put out.
7 T he steps of his strength shall be shortened, and his own counsel and the plans in which he trusted shall bring about his downfall.
The steps of his strength shall be straitened, And his own counsel shall cast him down.
8 F or the wicked is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walks upon a lattice-covered pit.
For he is cast into a net by his own feet, And he walketh upon the toils.
9 A trap will catch him by the heel, and a snare will lay hold on him.
A gin shall take him by the heel, And a snare shall lay hold on him.
10 A noose is hidden for him on the ground and a trap for him in the way.

11 T errors shall make him afraid on every side and shall chase him at his heels.

12 T he strength shall be hunger-bitten, and calamity is ready at his side.

13 B y disease his strength and his skin shall be devoured; the firstborn of death shall consume his limbs.
The members of his body shall be devoured, Yea, the first-born of death shall devour his members.
14 H e shall be rooted out of his dwelling place in which he trusted, and he shall be brought to the king of terrors.

15 T here shall dwell in his tent that which is none of his; sulphur shall be scattered over his dwelling.

16 T he roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off and wither.

19 H e shall neither have son nor grandson among his people, nor any remaining where he sojourned.

20 T hey that come after shall be astonished and appalled at his day, as they that went before were seized with horror.

21 S urely such are the dwellings of the ungodly, and such is the place of him who knows not (recognizes not and honors not) God.
Surely such are the dwellings of the unrighteous, And this is the place of him that knoweth not God.
