1 A fter these events, God tested and proved Abraham and said to him, Abraham! And he said, Here I am.

Now it came about after these things, that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “ Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”

2 s aid, Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah; and offer him there as a burnt offering upon one of the mountains of which I will tell you.

He said, “Take now your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you.”

3 S o Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him and his son Isaac; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and then began the trip to the place of which God had told him.

So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him and Isaac his son; and he split wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.

4 O n the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance.

On the third day Abraham raised his eyes and saw the place from a distance.

5 A nd Abraham said to his servants, Settle down and stay here with the donkey, and I and the young man will go yonder and worship and come again to you.

Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey, and I and the lad will go over there; and we will worship and return to you.”

6 T hen Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son, and he took the fire (the firepot) in his own hand, and a knife; and the two of them went on together.

Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son, and he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So the two of them walked on together.

7 A nd Isaac said to Abraham, My father! And he said, Here I am, my son. said, See, here are the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt sacrifice?

Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” And he said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”

8 A braham said, My son, God Himself will provide a lamb for the burnt offering. So the two went on together.

Abraham said, “God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” So the two of them walked on together.

9 W hen they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built an altar there; then he laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar on the wood.

Then they came to the place of which God had told him; and Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood, and bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.

10 A nd Abraham stretched forth his hand and took hold of the knife to slay his son.

Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.

11 B ut the Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, Abraham, Abraham! He answered, Here I am.

But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”

12 A nd He said, Do not lay your hand on the lad or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear and revere God, since you have not held back from Me or begrudged giving Me your son, your only son.

He said, “Do not stretch out your hand against the lad, and do nothing to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”

13 T hen Abraham looked up and glanced around, and behold, behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up for a burnt offering and an ascending sacrifice instead of his son!

Then Abraham raised his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering in the place of his son.

14 S o Abraham called the name of that place The Lord Will Provide. And it is said to this day, On the mount of the Lord it will be provided.

Abraham called the name of that place The Lord Will Provide, as it is said to this day, “In the mount of the Lord it will be provided.”

15 T he Angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time

Then the angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven,

16 A nd said, I have sworn by Myself, says the Lord, that since you have done this and have not withheld or begrudged your son, your only son,

and said, “ By Myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son,

17 I n blessing I will bless you and in multiplying I will multiply your descendants like the stars of the heavens and like the sand on the seashore. And your Seed (Heir) will possess the gate of His enemies,

indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of their enemies.

18 A nd in your Seed '> Christ] shall all the nations of the earth be blessed and bless themselves, because you have heard and obeyed My voice.

In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”

19 S o Abraham returned to his servants, and they rose up and went with him to Beersheba; there Abraham lived.

So Abraham returned to his young men, and they arose and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham lived at Beersheba.

20 N ow after these things, it was told Abraham, Milcah has also borne children to your brother Nahor:

Now it came about after these things, that it was told Abraham, saying, “Behold, Milcah also has borne children to your brother Nahor:

21 U z the firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father of Aram,

Uz his firstborn and Buz his brother and Kemuel the father of Aram

23 B ethuel became the father of Rebekah. These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham’s brother.

Bethuel became the father of Rebekah; these eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham’s brother.
