1 A Song, -- A Psalm of Asaph. O God, let there be no silence to Thee, Be not silent, nor be quiet, O God.
O God, keep not thou silence: Hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.
2 F or, lo, Thine enemies do roar, And those hating Thee have lifted up the head,
For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult; And they that hate thee have lifted up the head.
3 A gainst Thy people they take crafty counsel, And consult against Thy hidden ones.
Thy take crafty counsel against thy people, And consult together against thy hidden ones.
4 T hey have said, `Come, And we cut them off from a nation, And the name of Israel is not remembered any more.'
They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; That the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.
5 F or they consulted in heart together, Against Thee a covenant they make,
For they have consulted together with one consent; Against thee do they make a covenant:
6 T ents of Edom, and Ishmaelites, Moab, and the Hagarenes,
The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab, and the Hagarenes;
7 G ebal, and Ammon, and Amalek, Philistia with inhabitants of Tyre,
Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre:
8 A sshur also is joined with them, They have been an arm to sons of Lot. Selah.
Assyria also is joined with them; They have helped the children of Lot. Selah
9 D o to them as Midian, As Sisera, as Jabin, at the stream Kishon.
Do thou unto them as unto Midian, As to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the river Kishon;
10 T hey were destroyed at Endor, They were dung for the ground!
Who perished at Endor, Who became as dung for the earth.
11 M ake their nobles as Oreb and as Zeeb, And as Zebah and Zalmunna all their princes,
Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb; Yea, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna;
12 W ho have said, `Let us occupy for ourselves The comely places of God.'
Who said, Let us take to ourselves in possession The habitations of God.
13 O my God, make them as a rolling thing, As stubble before wind.
O my God, make them like the whirling dust; As stubble before the wind.
14 A s a fire doth burn a forest, And as a flame setteth hills on fire,
As the fire that burneth the forest, And as the flame that setteth the mountains on fire,
15 S o dost Thou pursue them with Thy whirlwind, And with Thy hurricane troublest them.
So pursue them with thy tempest, And terrify them with thy storm.
16 F ill their faces shame, And they seek Thy name, O Jehovah.
Fill their faces with confusion, That they may seek thy name, O Jehovah.
17 T hey are ashamed and troubled for ever, Yea, they are confounded and lost.
Let them be put to shame and dismayed for ever; Yea, let them be confounded and perish;
18 A nd they know that Thou -- (Thy name Jehovah -- by Thyself,) the Most High over all the earth!
That they may know that thou alone, whose name is Jehovah, Art the Most High over all the earth.
