1 T he sons of Judah were Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur and Shobal.

The sons of Judah; Pharez, Hezron, and Carmi, and Hur, and Shobal.

2 S hobal’s son Reaiah was the father of Jahath. And Jahath was the father of Ahumai and Lahad. These were the families of the Zorathites.

And Reaiah the son of Shobal begat Jahath; and Jahath begat Ahumai, and Lahad. These are the families of the Zorathites.

3 T he sons of Etam were Jezreel, Ishma and Idbash. The name of their sister was Hazzelelponi.

And these were of the father of Etam; Jezreel, and Ishma, and Idbash: and the name of their sister was Hazelelponi:

4 P enuel was the father of Gedor. Ezer was the father of Hushah. These were the sons of Hur, the first-born of Ephrathah, the father of Bethlehem.

and Penuel the father of Gedor, and Ezer the father of Hushah. These are the sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephratah, the father of Beth-lehem.

5 T ekoa’s father Ashhur had two wives, Helah and Naarah.

And Ashur the father of Tekoa had two wives, Helah and Naarah.

6 N aarah gave birth to Ahuzzam, Hepher, Temeni and Haahashtari. These were the sons of Naarah.

And Naarah bare him Ahuzam, and Hepher, and Temeni, and Haahashtari. These were the sons of Naarah.

7 T he sons of Helah were Zereth, Izhar and Ethnan.

And the sons of Helah were, Zereth, and Jezoar, and Ethnan.

8 K oz was the father of Anub, Zobebah, and the families of Aharhel the son of Harum.

And Coz begat Anub, and Zobebah, and the families of Aharhel the son of Harum.

9 J abez was more a man of honor than his brothers. His mother gave him the name Jabez, saying, “Because I gave birth to him in pain.”

And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.

10 J abez called on the God of Israel, saying, “O, if only You would bring good to me and give me more land! If only Your hand might be with me, that You would keep me from being hurt!” And God gave him what he asked for.

And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

11 S huhah’s brother Chelub was the father of Mehir, who was the father of Eshton.

And Chelub the brother of Shuah begat Mehir, which was the father of Eshton.

12 E shton was the father of Beth-rapha and Paseah. Tehinnah was the father of Irnahash. These are the men of Recah.

And Eshton begat Beth-rapha, and Paseah, and Tehinnah the father of Ir-nahash. These are the men of Rechah.

13 T he sons of Kenaz were Othniel and Seraiah. Othniel’s son was Hathath.

And the sons of Kenaz; Othniel, and Seraiah: and the sons of Othniel; Hathath.

14 M eonothai was the father of Ophrah. Seraiah was the father of Joab, who was the father of Ge-harashim. They were good at making things.

And Meonothai begat Ophrah: and Seraiah begat Joab, the father of the valley of Charashim; for they were craftsmen.

15 J ephunneh’s son Caleb was the father of Iru, Elah and Naam. Elah’s son was Kenaz.

And the sons of Caleb the son of Jephunneh; Iru, Elah, and Naam: and the sons of Elah, even Kenaz.

16 T he sons of Jehallel were Ziph, Ziphah, Tiria and Asarel.

And the sons of Jehaleleel; Ziph, and Ziphah, Tiria, and Asareel.

17 T he sons of Ezrah were Jether, Mered, Epher and Jalon. These are the sons of Pharaoh’s daughter Bithia, whom Mered married. She gave birth to Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah the father of Eshtemoa.

And the sons of Ezra were, Jether, and Mered, and Epher, and Jalon: and she bare Miriam, and Shammai, and Ishbah the father of Eshtemoa.

18 M ered’s Jewish wife gave birth to Jered the father of Gedor, Heber the father of Soco, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah.

And his wife Jehudijah bare Jered the father of Gedor, and Heber the father of Socho, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah. And these are the sons of Bithiah the daughter of Pharaoh, which Mered took.

19 T he sons of Hodiah’s wife, the sister of Naham, were the fathers of Keilah the Garmite and Eshtemoa the Maacathite.

And the sons of his wife Hodiah the sister of Naham, the father of Keilah the Garmite, and Eshtemoa the Maachathite.

20 S himon’s sons were Amnon, Rinnah, Benhanan and Tilon. The sons of Ishi were Zoheth and Ben-zoheth.

And the sons of Shimon were, Amnon, and Rinnah, Ben-hanan, and Tilon. And the sons of Ishi were, Zoheth, and Ben-zoheth.

21 T he sons of Shelah the son of Judah were Er the father of Lecah, Laadah the father of Mareshah, and the families of the house of those who worked with linen at Bethashbea.

The sons of Shelah the son of Judah were, Er the father of Lecah, and Laadah the father of Mareshah, and the families of the house of them that wrought fine linen, of the house of Ashbea,

22 S helah’s other sons were Jokim, the men of Cozeba, Joash, Saraph who ruled in Moab, and Jaashubi-lehem. The writings of these times are old.

and Jokim, and the men of Chozeba, and Joash, and Saraph, who had the dominion in Moab, and Jashubi-lehem. And these are ancient things.

23 T hese were the people who made pots and lived in Netaim and Gederah. They lived there with the king for his work. The Family of Simeon

These were the potters, and those that dwelt among plants and hedges: there they dwelt with the king for his work.

24 T he sons of Simeon were Nemuel, Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, and Saul.

The sons of Simeon were, Nemuel, and Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, and Shaul:

25 S aul’s son was Shallum. His son was Mibsam. And his son was Mishma.

Shallum his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son.

26 M ishma’s sons were Hammuel, Zaccur his son, and Shimei his son.

And the sons of Mishma; Hamuel his son, Zacchur his son, Shimei his son.

27 S himei had sixteen sons and six daughters. But his brothers did not have many children. Their whole family did not have many children, like the sons of Judah.

And Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters; but his brethren had not many children, neither did all their family multiply, like to the children of Judah.

28 T hey lived at Beersheba, Moladah, Hazarshual,

And they dwelt at Beer-sheba, and Moladah, and Hazar-shual,

29 B ilhah, Ezem, Tolad,

and at Bilhah, and at Ezem, and at Tolad,

30 B ethuel, Hormah, Ziklag,

and at Bethuel, and at Hormah, and at Ziklag,

31 B eth-marcaboth, Hazar-susim, Beth-biri, and Shaaraim. These were their cities until David ruled.

32 T heir towns were Etam, Ain, Rimmon, Tochen and Ashan, five towns.

And their villages were, Etam, and Ain, Rimmon, and Tochen, and Ashan, five cities:

33 A nd they had all the small towns that were around these towns as far as Baal. These were the places where they lived. And they wrote down all the names of their families.

and all their villages that were round about the same cities, unto Baal. These were their habitations, and their genealogy.

34 T he heads of their families were Meshobab, Jamlech, Joshah the son of Amaziah,

35 J oel, and Jehu the son of Joshibiah, the son of Seraiah, the son of Asiel.

and Joel, and Jehu the son of Josibiah, the son of Seraiah, the son of Asiel,

36 A nd there were Elioenai, Jaakobah, Jeshohaiah, Asaiah, Adiel, Jesimiel, Benaiah,

and Elioenai, and Jaakobah, and Jeshohaiah, and Asaiah, and Adiel, and Jesimiel, and Benaiah,

37 a nd Ziza the son of Shiphi, the son of Allon, the son of Jedaiah, the son of Shimri, the son of Shemaiah.

38 T hese were the names of the heads of their families. And many were added to their fathers’ houses.

these mentioned by their names were princes in their families: and the house of their fathers increased greatly.

39 T hey went to the gate of Gedor, to the east side of the valley, to look for fields for their flocks.

And they went to the entrance of Gedor, even unto the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks.

40 T here they found good fields rich with grass. The land was wide and quiet, and there they had peace. For Hamites had lived there before.

And they found fat pasture and good, and the land was wide, and quiet, and peaceable; for they of Ham had dwelt there of old.

41 T hese whose names have been written down came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah. They destroyed their tents and the Meunites who were found there. They destroyed all of them to this day, and lived in their place because there were fields for their flocks.

And these written by name came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and smote their tents, and the habitations that were found there, and destroyed them utterly unto this day, and dwelt in their rooms: because there was pasture there for their flocks.

42 T hen some of them, 500 sons of Simeon, went to Mount Seir. Their leaders were Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi.

And some of them, even of the sons of Simeon, five hundred men, went to mount Seir, having for their captains Pelatiah, and Neariah, and Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi.

43 T hey destroyed the rest of the Amalekites who had run away to be safe. And they have lived there to this day.

And they smote the rest of the Amalekites that were escaped, and dwelt there unto this day.
