2 ( Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)

3 H e left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.
he left Judaea and went away again unto Galilee.
4 A nd he must needs go through Samaria.
And he must needs pass through Samaria.
5 T hen cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
He comes therefore to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near to the land which Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 N ow Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.
Now a fountain of Jacob's was there; Jesus therefore, being wearied with the way he had come, sat just as he was at the fountain. It was about the sixth hour.
7 T here cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.

8 ( For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)

9 T hen saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
The Samaritan woman therefore says to him, How dost thou, being a Jew, ask to drink of me who am a Samaritan woman? for Jews have no intercourse with Samaritans.
10 J esus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

13 J esus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
Jesus answered and said to her, Every one who drinks of this water shall thirst again;
14 B ut whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
but whosoever drinks of the water which I shall give him shall never thirst for ever, but the water which I shall give him shall become in him a fountain of water, springing up into eternal life.
15 T he woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.

16 J esus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

17 T he woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:

18 F or thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

19 T he woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.
The woman says to him, Sir, I see that thou art a prophet.
20 O ur fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

21 J esus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

22 Y e worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

23 B ut the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

24 G od is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

25 T he woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
The woman says to him, I know that Messiah is coming, who is called Christ; when he comes he will tell us all things.
26 J esus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.
Jesus says to her, I who speak to thee am.
27 A nd upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?
And upon this came his disciples, and wondered that he spoke with a woman; yet no one said, What seekest thou? or, Why speakest thou with her?
28 T he woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,
The woman then left her waterpot and went away into the city, and says to the men,
29 C ome, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?
Come, see a man who told me all things I had ever done: is not he the Christ?
30 T hen they went out of the city, and came unto him.
They went out of the city and came to him.
31 I n the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.
But meanwhile the disciples asked him saying, Rabbi, eat.
32 B ut he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.
But he said to them, I have food to eat which ye do not know.
33 T herefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?
The disciples therefore said to one another, Has any one brought him to eat?
34 J esus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
Jesus says to them, My food is that I should do the will of him that has sent me, and that I should finish his work.
35 S ay not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
Do not ye say, that there are yet four months and the harvest comes? Behold, I say to you, Lift up your eyes and behold the fields, for they are already white to harvest.
36 A nd he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.
He that reaps receives wages and gathers fruit unto life eternal, that both he that sows and he that reaps may rejoice together.
37 A nd herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.
For in this is the true saying, It is one who sows and another who reaps.
38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.
I have sent you to reap that on which ye have not laboured; others have laboured, and ye have entered into their labours.
39 A nd many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.
But many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him because of the word of the woman who bore witness, He told me all things that I had ever done.
40 S o when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.

41 A nd many more believed because of his own word;
And more a great deal believed on account of his word;
42 A nd said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

43 N ow after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.
But after the two days he went forth thence and went away into Galilee,
44 F or Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.

45 T hen when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.
When therefore he came into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all that he had done in Jerusalem during the feast, for they also went to the feast.
46 S o Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

47 W hen he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.
He, having heard that Jesus had come out of Judaea into Galilee, went to him and asked that he would come down and heal his son, for he was about to die.
48 T hen said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.
Jesus therefore said to him, Unless ye see signs and wonders ye will not believe.
49 T he nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.
The courtier says to him, Sir, come down ere my child die.
50 J esus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.
Jesus says to him, Go, thy son lives. And the man believed the word which Jesus said to him, and went his way.
51 A nd as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.
But already, as he was going down, his servants met him and brought word saying, Thy child lives.
52 T hen enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.
He inquired therefore from them the hour at which he got better. And they said to him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.
53 S o the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.
The father therefore knew that in that hour in which Jesus said to him, Thy son lives; and he believed, himself and his whole house.
54 T his is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.
This second sign again did Jesus, being come out of Judaea into Galilee.
