1 A nd the children of Israel, according to their number, the heads of fathers’ houses, the captains of thousands and hundreds and their officers, served the king in every matter of the military divisions. These divisions came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, each division having twenty-four thousand.

Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the heads of fathers' houses and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and their officers that served the king, in any matter of the courses which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year-of every course were twenty and four thousand.

2 O ver the first division for the first month was Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel, and in his division were twenty-four thousand;

Over the first course for the first month was Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

3 h e was of the children of Perez, and the chief of all the captains of the army for the first month.

He was of the children of Perez, the chief of all the captains of the host for the first month.

4 O ver the division of the second month was Dodai an Ahohite, and of his division Mikloth also was the leader; in his division were twenty-four thousand.

And over the course of the second month was Dodai the Ahohite, and his course; and Mikloth the ruler: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

5 T he third captain of the army for the third month was Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada the priest, who was chief; in his division were twenty-four thousand.

The third captain of the host for the third month was Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada the priest, chief: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

6 T his was the Benaiah who was mighty among the thirty, and was over the thirty; in his division was Ammizabad his son.

This is that Benaiah, who was the mighty man of the thirty, and over the thirty: and of his course was Ammizabad his son.

7 T he fourth captain for the fourth month was Asahel the brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him; in his division were twenty-four thousand.

The fourth captain for the fourth month was Asahel the brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

8 T he fifth captain for the fifth month was Shamhuth the Izrahite; in his division were twenty-four thousand.

The fifth captain for this fifth month was Shamhuth the Izrahite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

9 T he sixth captain for the sixth month was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite; in his division were twenty-four thousand.

The sixth captain for the sixth month was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

10 T he seventh captain for the seventh month was Helez the Pelonite, of the children of Ephraim; in his division were twenty-four thousand.

11 T he eighth captain for the eighth month was Sibbechai the Hushathite, of the Zarhites; in his division were twenty-four thousand.

12 T he ninth captain for the ninth month was Abiezer the Anathothite, of the Benjamites; in his division were twenty-four thousand.

The ninth captain for the ninth month was Abiezer the Anathothite, of the Benjamites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

13 T he tenth captain for the tenth month was Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zarhites; in his division were twenty-four thousand.

The tenth captain for the tenth month was Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zerahites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

14 T he eleventh captain for the eleventh month was Benaiah the Pirathonite, of the children of Ephraim; in his division were twenty-four thousand.

15 T he twelfth captain for the twelfth month was Heldai the Netophathite, of Othniel; in his division were twenty-four thousand. Leaders of Tribes

16 F urthermore, over the tribes of Israel: the officer over the Reubenites was Eliezer the son of Zichri; over the Simeonites, Shephatiah the son of Maachah;

Furthermore over the tribes of Israel: of the Reubenites was Eliezer the son of Zichri the ruler: of the Simeonites, Shephatiah the son of Maacah:

17 o ver the Levites, Hashabiah the son of Kemuel; over the Aaronites, Zadok;

of Levi, Hashabiah the son of Kemuel: of Aaron, Zadok:

18 o ver Judah, Elihu, one of David’s brothers; over Issachar, Omri the son of Michael;

of Judah, Elihu, one of the brethren of David: of Issachar, Omri the son of Michael:

19 o ver Zebulun, Ishmaiah the son of Obadiah; over Naphtali, Jerimoth the son of Azriel;

of Zebulun, Ishmaiah the son of Obadiah: of Naphtali, Jeremoth the son of Azriel:

20 o ver the children of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Azaziah; over the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joel the son of Pedaiah;

of the children of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Azaziah: of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joel the son of Pedaiah:

21 o ver the half– tribe of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo the son of Zechariah; over Benjamin, Jaasiel the son of Abner;

of the half -tribe of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo the son of Zechariah: of Benjamin, Jaasiel the son of Abner:

22 o ver Dan, Azarel the son of Jeroham. These were the leaders of the tribes of Israel.

23 B ut David did not take the number of those twenty years old and under, because the Lord had said He would multiply Israel like the stars of the heavens.

But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under, because Jehovah had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of heaven.

24 J oab the son of Zeruiah began a census, but he did not finish, for wrath came upon Israel because of this census; nor was the number recorded in the account of the chronicles of King David. Other State Officials

Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but finished not; and there came wrath for this upon Israel; neither was the number put into the account in the chronicles of king David.

25 A nd Azmaveth the son of Adiel was over the king’s treasuries; and Jehonathan the son of Uzziah was over the storehouses in the field, in the cities, in the villages, and in the fortresses.

And over the king's treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel: and over the treasures in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the castles, was Jonathan the son of Uzziah:

26 E zri the son of Chelub was over those who did the work of the field for tilling the ground.

And over them that did the work of the field for tillage of the ground was Ezri the son of Chelub:

27 A nd Shimei the Ramathite was over the vineyards, and Zabdi the Shiphmite was over the produce of the vineyards for the supply of wine.

and over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite: and over the increase of the vineyards for the wine-cellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite:

28 B aal-Hanan the Gederite was over the olive trees and the sycamore trees that were in the lowlands, and Joash was over the store of oil.

and over the olive-trees and the sycomore-trees that were in the lowland was Baal-hanan the Gederite: and over the cellars of oil was Joash:

29 A nd Shitrai the Sharonite was over the herds that fed in Sharon, and Shaphat the son of Adlai was over the herds that were in the valleys.

and over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite: and over the herds that were in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai:

30 O bil the Ishmaelite was over the camels, Jehdeiah the Meronothite was over the donkeys,

and over the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite: and over the asses was Jehdeiah the Meronothite: and over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagrite.

31 a nd Jaziz the Hagrite was over the flocks. All these were the officials over King David’s property.

All these were the rulers of the substance which was king David's.

32 A lso Jehonathan, David’s uncle, was a counselor, a wise man, and a scribe; and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king’s sons.

Also Jonathan, David's uncle, was a counsellor, a man of understanding, and a scribe: and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king's sons:

33 A hithophel was the king’s counselor, and Hushai the Archite was the king’s companion.

And Ahithophel was the king's counsellor: and Hushai the Archite was the king's friend:

34 A fter Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, then Abiathar. And the general of the king’s army was Joab.

and after Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar: and the captain of the king's host was Joab.
