Deuteronomy 8 ~ Deuteronomy 8

1 Every commandment which I command you today you must be careful to observe, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers.

¶ Take care to do all the commandments which I command thee this day that ye may live and be multiplied and enter in and inherit the land which the LORD swore unto your fathers.

2 A nd you shall remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.

And thou shalt remember all the way by which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness to afflict thee and to prove thee to know what was in thine heart, whether thou would keep his commandments, or not.

3 S o He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.

And he afflicted thee and caused thee to hunger and sustained thee with manna, food of which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know, that he might make thee know that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD shall man live.

4 Y our garments did not wear out on you, nor did your foot swell these forty years.

Thy raiment never waxed old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.

5 Y ou should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the Lord your God chastens you.

And know in thine heart, that as a man chastens his son, so the LORD thy God chastens thee.

6 Therefore you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him.

Keep, therefore, the commandments of the LORD thy God by walking in his ways and fearing him.

7 F or the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, that flow out of valleys and hills;

For the LORD thy God brings thee into a good land, a land of brooks, of waters, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills,

8 a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey;

a land of wheat and barley and vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olives, of oil, and honey;

9 a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing; a land whose stones are iron and out of whose hills you can dig copper.

a land in which thou shalt eat bread without scarceness; thou shalt not lack any thing in it, a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose mountains thou may dig brass.

10 W hen you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land which He has given you.

¶ Thou shalt eat and be full and bless the LORD thy God for the good land which he has given thee.

11 Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today,

Keep thyself, that thou forget not the LORD thy God, to not fulfill his commandments and his rights and his statutes, which I command thee this day,

12 l est— when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them;

lest peradventure when thou hast eaten and art full and hast built goodly houses and dwelt therein,

13 a nd when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied;

and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied and all that thou hast is multiplied,

14 w hen your heart is lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;

then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery,

15 w ho led you through that great and terrible wilderness, in which were fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty land where there was no water; who brought water for you out of the flinty rock;

who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness of burning serpents and scorpions and drought, where there was no water, who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint,

16 w ho fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do you good in the end—

who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, a food which thy fathers knew not, afflicting thee and proving thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;

17 t hen you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’

and thou say in thy heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.

18 And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God, for it is he that gives thee the power to get wealth that he may confirm his covenant which he swore unto thy fathers, as it is this day.

19 T hen it shall be, if you by any means forget the Lord your God, and follow other gods, and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish.

And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God and walk after other gods and serve them and worship them, I protest against you this day that ye shall surely perish.

20 A s the nations which the Lord destroys before you, so you shall perish, because you would not be obedient to the voice of the Lord your God.

As the Gentiles which the LORD shall destroy before your face, so shall ye perish because ye would not attend to the voice of the LORD your God.
