Psalm 38 ~ Psalm 38

picture

1 O Lord, rebuke me not in Your wrath, And chasten me not in Your burning anger.

O Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.

2 F or Your arrows have sunk deep into me, And Your hand has pressed down on me.

For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.

3 T here is no soundness in my flesh because of Your indignation; There is no health in my bones because of my sin.

There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.

4 F or my iniquities are gone over my head; As a heavy burden they weigh too much for me.

For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

5 M y wounds grow foul and fester Because of my folly.

My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.

6 I am bent over and greatly bowed down; I go mourning all day long.

I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.

7 F or my loins are filled with burning, And there is no soundness in my flesh.

For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh.

8 I am benumbed and badly crushed; I groan because of the agitation of my heart.

I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.

9 L ord, all my desire is before You; And my sighing is not hidden from You.

Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.

10 M y heart throbs, my strength fails me; And the light of my eyes, even that has gone from me.

My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.

11 M y loved ones and my friends stand aloof from my plague; And my kinsmen stand afar off.

My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off.

12 T hose who seek my life lay snares for me; And those who seek to injure me have threatened destruction, And they devise treachery all day long.

They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.

13 B ut I, like a deaf man, do not hear; And I am like a mute man who does not open his mouth.

But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

14 Y es, I am like a man who does not hear, And in whose mouth are no arguments.

Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.

15 F or I hope in You, O Lord; You will answer, O Lord my God.

For in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

16 F or I said, “May they not rejoice over me, Who, when my foot slips, would magnify themselves against me.”

For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.

17 F or I am ready to fall, And my sorrow is continually before me.

For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.

18 F or I confess my iniquity; I am full of anxiety because of my sin.

For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

19 B ut my enemies are vigorous and strong, And many are those who hate me wrongfully.

But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

20 A nd those who repay evil for good, They oppose me, because I follow what is good.

They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.

21 D o not forsake me, O Lord; O my God, do not be far from me!

Forsake me not, O Lord: O my God, be not far from me.

22 M ake haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation!

Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.
