1 N ow after this it came about that David defeated the Philistines and subdued them and took Gath and its towns from the hand of the Philistines.

Now after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and her towns out of the hand of the Philistines.

2 H e defeated Moab, and the Moabites became servants to David, bringing tribute.

And he smote Moab; and the Moabites became David’s servants, and brought gifts.

3 D avid also defeated Hadadezer king of Zobah as far as Hamath, as he went to establish his rule to the Euphrates River.

And David smote Hadarezer king of Zobah unto Hamath, as he went to stablish his dominion by the river Euphrates.

4 D avid took from him 1, 000 chariots and 7, 000 horsemen and 20, 000 foot soldiers, and David hamstrung all the chariot horses, but reserved enough of them for 100 chariots.

And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: David also houghed all the chariot horses, but reserved of them an hundred chariots.

5 W hen the Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David killed 22, 000 men of the Arameans.

And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.

6 T hen David put garrisons among the Arameans of Damascus; and the Arameans became servants to David, bringing tribute. And the Lord helped David wherever he went.

Then David put garrisons in Syria-damascus; and the Syrians became David’s servants, and brought gifts. Thus the Lord preserved David whithersoever he went.

7 D avid took the shields of gold which were carried by the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.

And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadarezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.

8 A lso from Tibhath and from Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David took a very large amount of bronze, with which Solomon made the bronze sea and the pillars and the bronze utensils.

Likewise from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, brought David very much brass, wherewith Solomon made the brasen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.

9 N ow when Tou king of Hamath heard that David had defeated all the army of Hadadezer king of Zobah,

Now when Tou king of Hamath heard how David had smitten all the host of Hadarezer king of Zobah;

10 h e sent Hadoram his son to King David to greet him and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and had defeated him; for Hadadezer had been at war with Tou. And Hadoram brought all kinds of articles of gold and silver and bronze.

he sent Hadoram his son to king David, to enquire of his welfare, and to congratulate him, because he had fought against Hadarezer, and smitten him; (for Hadarezer had war with Tou;) and with him all manner of vessels of gold and silver and brass.

11 K ing David also dedicated these to the Lord with the silver and the gold which he had carried away from all the nations: from Edom, Moab, the sons of Ammon, the Philistines, and from Amalek.

Them also king David dedicated unto the Lord, with the silver and the gold that he brought from all these nations; from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.

12 M oreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah defeated 18, 000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt.

Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah slew of the Edomites in the valley of salt eighteen thousand.

13 T hen he put garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became servants to David. And the Lord helped David wherever he went.

And he put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became David’s servants. Thus the Lord preserved David whithersoever he went.

14 S o David reigned over all Israel; and he administered justice and righteousness for all his people.

So David reigned over all Israel, and executed judgment and justice among all his people.

15 J oab the son of Zeruiah was over the army, and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;

And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, recorder.

16 a nd Zadok the son of Ahitub and Abimelech the son of Abiathar were priests, and Shavsha was secretary;

And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Abimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Shavsha was scribe;

17 a nd Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and the sons of David were chiefs at the king’s side.

and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were chief about the king.
